If I were Chantal, I would be worried. We can't know for sure where she gets her money from, but I suspect most of it is still from YouTube. If Bibi handles the rent with his job, she is probably making enough to buy all her food. However, she probably does not have enough to handle car payments on top of car maintenance.
Social Blade has her spread at between $143 and $2300 a month. If we average those out, it leaves her with $1200 a month. That's worth more in Canada, too. Her lifestyle costs very little aside from the food. She doesn't use gas driving to a job every day. She doesn't eat out very much, except at fast food. She has no hobbies or interests. She had earlier announced that she was giving up buying new clothes.
She refers to "debt" a lot, and has implied that aside from the car, she also owes other money, most likely on credit cards.
I suspect that in the halcyon days of October 2017 to about April 2018, when her channel was growing by leaps and bounds (no small thanks to Kiwi Farms), she deluded herself into thinking this was a career, and she'd eventually be making millions as the mukbang beauty. I don't think she anticipated the growing number of competing fatties, becoming a lolcow, or having a breakdown or whatever it is now.
The reality is that a combination of arrogance, stupidity, poor impulse control, bipolar mood swings, and basic ineptitude has resulted in the channel suffering as her meal ticket. She's making less and less, and it is scaring her. It is especially scary if your health and mobility are in decline too. Frankly, that combination does end in death with a lot of people for a variety of reasons.
Meanwhile, while her personal life is off-limits, we'll never get to the bottom of what is up with Bibi and his sister. But if Chantal lands on the outs with them, it spells disaster for her unless someone else can house her. She won't be able to do it on her own. If this is something percolating, no wonder she's acting flighty.
I don't begrudge how people make a living; everyone has to eat (well, maybe not some fatties). But Mukbang as a Career Choice just seems wrong on so many levels. I really hope it won't become an industry...
