A check of the “This Is Life” episode list seems to indicate its a show about weird subcultures, including the Mongols one- percenter motorcycle gang. On the other hand the episodes main ‘expert’ input seems to come from “Dr. Nuka”, a furry who’s a psychologist who’s approach to the fandom is simply to ignore any negative aspects since it doesn’t fit his narrative.

I kind of think that this is CNN playing it both ways; the episode will be loved and hailed by furries as positive of their lifestyle but at the same time, CNN gets their latest installment of news of the weird and treats the furrys as the man-bites-dog story they really are.


Of course furries are all happy and welcoming, honey. Your their latest grooming success story, and fresh yiffing fodder.

I just wonder if he was trying to promote his daughter to encourage her or take some money from possible commissions. Also, you'd think he'd be concerned about what his tism child would see in the fandom and or the adults he follows that he'd try to protect her but... Furries like 'em young.

There are so many aspects to this story I could add to, but it breaches a little into self-doxing. I'll say what I can.

The guy who posted that might deserving of his own thread. He is an absolute trainwreck of a person, and his antics are pretty entertaining to observe from a distance. That response with the shrine getting closed due to a "narcissistic quest for social media recognition"? They don't know the half of it.

At the moment, due to the popularity of that tweet (well over 500k engagements since I'd last seen it), he had a bit of a meltdown due to "normies" attacking him for "being a furry". In reality, he linked his FurAffinity which is home to art such as:

Sometimes I think that’s my major complaint about furries is the never ending stream of secrets and lies you get from them; every furry I ever came into contact with was a pleasant face for the public behind which was all sorts of screwed up and train wreck, and every other furry around them knew, but maintained the illusion for them.

The way I describe it, to people who might've been around for it, he's kind of like Shmorky.

Extremely marketable, industry-relevant artistic style. Strong enough fundamentals to be able to work in any relevant environment that might call for their type of contribution.

Absolutely ridiculous personality and destructive mental health situations that'll prevent the level of success they could obtain if they sorted their shit out. It's sad, because you root for them, but boy is it fun to watch.

I mean, most non-furcon suiters I've interacted with are relatively safe. When your relationship with the fandom is meeting up locally and bowling or whatever with equally asexual individuals, it could be any other hobby (as in, an excuse to meet with people).

Likewise, a lot of the current gen social media attention whores are probably from around the time when being a furry was quite literally just picking an animal and two/three colors and then using it as an excuse to identify people who sort of act like yourself. Absolutely whoring yourself out and creating donut steels for the sake of attention is relatively 'new' in my experience.

The issue with these documentaries are that they never choose sane individuals. They don't choose the fursuiting airline pilot who only knows 8 people and only got a suit because he's rich, but rather the nobody who "came out" to their parents and wants to become some sort of ambassador if the fandom was to finally be accepted. I mean that fucking tool that appeared on Dr phil, who was some 50-year old weirdo. Why? Your average furry is early 20s and has a normal job, somewhat restricting their deviancy to IMs in their lunchbreak.

Living furcon-to-furcon and owning a suit is a minority of the minority that even wants to go to furcons. They got 10-20k followers on Twitter were even the maddest banter edgelords have at most 5k, because they don't have hotel murrsuit photoshoots bimonthly.
