Tbh it doesn't even matter. She's not drawn like a gollywog or sculpted out of ash and splashed in paint, just happens to be dark. It's nice. Wholesome even. The color palette is pretty, too.

I do feel sorry for her though; she became popular on the internet when she was 10, and she overshares a lot about herself (hence posting such a sexually charged picture). It bugs me to see that she (and all her blind fans) claim that she's changed as a person and has matured more since the original porn drawings she has drawn, but judging by this and the things she's posting now, no change has happened.

I think the Tumblr artstyle is the inevitable result of some teenager attempting to plagarize the artstyle of their favorite anime over and over but failing because the artist has no grasp on proportion and anatomy - so they finally say "fuck it" and excrete their rainbow garbage without even trying to make their work look pretty in order to stick it to the patriarchy. In other words, it's the artstyle of people who've just given up on trying to make their work look good, so instead they just pretend that it is. Their hugbox mentality also reinforced this.

I'd take saccharine early 2000s faux-anime garbage any day of the week instead of this artstyle.

Yeah, she's 12. She was actually born and raised as a boy, and had to hide that to maintain her career as a child actress. Then she literally died of shock when puberty bestowed her with a pube-beard.

The translation error comes in with the moral at the end of the episode about acceptance. The writers deliberately avoided discussing whether she was "really" a boy or a girl and just focused on how she's still Lily to everyone around her. Japanese doesn't use gendered language all that regularly, so it's entirely possible to have conversations about someone you know without mentioning their gender... not so much in English, where pronouns are required in nearly every sentence. The translators chose "she", and that one decision has caused torrents of people to say Lily is 100% canon trans and anyone who doesn't interpret her that way is wrong.
