Somehow its always SJWs. @Jaimas, why is it almost always SJWs that wind up causing niche communities to turn into actual drama hellscapes of everlasting reee?

The same reason it always is, my good Darkmage:

Firstly, most of the people who wind up becoming the worst offenders have infinite free time, are not gainfully employed, and have no lives outside of social media. Those traits alone do not translate, necessarily, to a community of shrieking degenerates, but they basically set the stage. It also means that once the problem metastasizes these people have nothing but time to throw at whatever insane causes they choose to champion.

That brings us to the second reason: Tumblr in particular is such a shithole of identity politics and psychiatric problems is because of the culture that the above curates. This curation comes about heavily because of a big push by post-modernist ideologues and assholes pushing the usual talking points: Normalcy should not exist, moderation should not exist, deviancy is good, logic should take a back seat to feelings. Because many of Tumblr's users fall into the above categories (NEETs, nothing but free time, etc), they're easily swayed by easy answers and due to how the Tumblr definition of privilege works, they wind up going all in because it means embracing a worldview where nothing bad is ever your fault.

Finally that brings us to the third reason: The ideology at the core of Social Justice - Intersectionality - is driven to take over everything it can. Its ideology means everything that can be co-opted must be; indifference is not allowed, opting out is not allowed, and escapism cannot be tolerated. There is no such thing as something that isn't political in their worldview, so everything must be part of the same tired refrain, or else.

The end result is that a bunch of NEETs with unlimited free time and have opted into an ideology that gives them nothing but positive reinforcement and encourages them to be assholes (and also to take over every platform they can).

Both of my kids had to have a Furby...their Grandma went out at 4 am to stand in line so they would both get a furby for Christmas. (yes...was over 20 years ago)

They liked them at first but quickly got creeped out because they would "wake up" and start talking in the middle of the night. We ended up donating them to thrift store by Jan.

At least he's living up to his name.

The furby community is interesting more not on the base of the people, but the monstrosities they create. You have to admit it takes a little talent to create these monsters, even if they're messed up to high hell.

There are crazy communities for a lot of old toys. Don't forget there's also a Garfield fandom, there's a fandom for mostly everything these days. I bet for a lot of these autists it's nostalgic to own and customize these things. Maybe it's a comfort tool because you know there's that one autist that goes "my life was so much better when I was younger and having these furbies brings me back uwu"

BEHOLD.
They're called horror furbies and tumblr loves them.
Honestly when I first read this thread it kind of inspired me to want to do this. I didnt know there was a group of people dedicated to it. Ive seen the crazy shit people do with them though.

Furby community is SO fucking weird. Why this toy, of all toys? It could have been Poffles (it might have been Popples) or something. You have one that unfolds and it's just this monstrosity inside.

It's almost like artwork. You know how edgy teenagers dismantle and play with their old toys by setting up absurd edgy scenes with them, kind of like that character in Toy Story? I kinda wanted to do that, or make absurd scenes of furbies doing crazy shit, but I was beaten to the punch since I think people have been doing this for as long as furbies existed.

The furby community is interesting more not on the base of the people, but the monstrosities they create.
Yeah for sure. There's a video in the thread of some dude making a furby piano. The shit they come up with is really interesting and sometimes pretty creative.

When you boil it down, it really just seems like every insanity imbued fandom is just made up of directionless people.

I never in a million years would've guessed that fucking Furbies had an active fandom outside of toy collectors, but I also never would've guessed that a Furby fandom would be populated by SJWs. When I saw the featured thread I imagined it'd be about 30-something adult baby manlets and their Furby fleshlights, not transtrenders flinging Tumblr-type drama at one another.

I'm not sure if I'm relieved or disappointed tbh.

That said I do almost genuinely like those Furby monstrosities. That two-headed Furby looks like it belongs as a haunted house prop.
