Yes, Robert Mueller, the hero who bungled the 2001 anthrax mailing investigation and had his team harass and target one man, Steven Hatfill for years as a suspect despite having no evidence of a direct link. Hatfill eventually sued the FBI and won. He also testified before the Senate one month before the Iraq invasion that yes, Saddam had weapons of mass destruction. Under Mueller, the FBI was also severely criticized by DOJ Inspector Generals finding the FBI overstepped the law improperly serving hundreds of thousands of “national security letters” to obtain private (and irrelevant) metadata on citizens, and for infiltrating nonviolent anti-war groups under the guise that they were investigating "terrorism".

While he did only become FBI Director a week before the 9/11 attacks Mueller denied and downplayed the significance of warnings that had poured in yet were all ignored or mishandled during the spring and summer of 2001, even when the 9/11 Commission came to the conclusion that the systems in place were "blinking red" but had been ignored.

Remember also, in his days as the Acting US Attorney in Boston, there were many serious questions about his role in enabling and covering up decades of Federal corruption and covering up the FBI’s illicit deals with mobster "Whitey" Bulger and other top informants who committed numerous murders and crimes. This included four men who were framed for a 1965 murder Bulger's gang had committed, eventually two of them were pardoned in the early aughts but two had died in prison.

Four men Muller had, back in the 1980s, in his position as a US Attorney, written letters to the parole and pardons boards opposing clemency for. The FBI, led by Bulger's corrupt handler and said handler's corrupt boss, had let them take the rap to protect one of their informants, a killer named Vincent Flemmi, who just happened to be the brother of Bulger's partner-in-crime and fellow FBI rat Stevie Flemmi. There were serious questions as to how much Mueller knew about all of this which just sort of went away.

Oh God! One of my favorite jokes at that time was whenever Obama would say or do something dumb (57 states, Special Olympics joke, etc.) my immediate response would be "Now, if this were Bush..." (back when W was the lefts big triggering dictator in chief), it would be a national scandal, it would be parodied up and down 24/7, it would be talked about till everyone was blue in the face, etc.
