Unlikely. He's not that nuts, most of the time. More likely he'll be found guilty of some petty bullshit that is less than what he actually did and do some time, and if lucky, some of that will be mental institution time, and if super lucky, some of it might actually be therapeutically useful enough.

But he'll probably be let out still whacked out of his mind and gimp along until he does something crazy enough to get locked up again.

Yeah, this would be at the very least his third inpatient stay at a psych facility in Florida in the past decade and I’m sure there have been several county jail stays too. I wouldn’t be surprised if the last few years have been the longest stretches Bulla has stayed out jail or a psych hospital since his 20s

Deputy was called to ask him to leave and said the phone wasn't even ON." Genuine question: How is insanity legally parsed when it's s tenant of your religion to speak to god, like literally, or to believe in your own divinity?

Obviously in bullas case, there's many other indicators, but couldn't you defend alot of craziness as religiously mandated?

People don't get declared crazy\insane as a whole by the system. You can be diagnosed with a mental condition like schizophrenia but the doctors don't have a test where, if you score over 60 points, you're 'crazy.'

The courts use standards based on what they're doing- are you so 'insane' that you cannot meaningfully contribute to your own defense in court, or even understand the charges? Then you may be found incompetent to stand trial and are likely placed in some sort of psychiatric facility that is supposed to rehabilitate you mentally. Were you mentally disturbed by a transient health issue that is no longer effecting you but made you unable to tell right from wrong? You may be found not guilty by reason of temporary mental disorder (or whatever terminology they use now). There's numerous levels of this and it depends on the state or country how it falls out. There's also standards for civil court.

You can talk with God all you want or declare yourself the messiah, it's just when you end up in the legal system that it matters. And it doesn't necessarily matter, either- take John's case. Is he "crazy"? Sure. But did his mental instability directly lead to him waving knives at someone during an argument? Not necessarily. You can be crazy and an asshole (plenty of people pull shit like that without having a diagnosis). And insanity defenses are not that often successful.

I mean, plenty of Protestant Evangelical Christians in the US are encouraged to feel they have a personal relationship with God. He could have picked up on that after leaving the Mormon church at any time.

It seems, though, from what Blue Jerkop is saying that what matters legally is whether Bulla's beliefs about personally knowing and/or being God, depending on the day of the week, contributed to his threats against the neighbor and kids -- like, whether a component of his defense will be that he is so crazy he believed that God was telling him to say those things and wave knives around because the neighbor and kids were demons. The court would then probably order a really stringent psych evaluation, the kind with failsafe questions to determine whether the person is trying to give the "right answers" to the shrink's questions to seem crazier.

I got a call at 6 am from a relative of his asking for monetary help from me to bail him out. He is telling anyone he has a audience with that he married me by phone and Jesus heard!! ( Lord help me )
His house contents,etc are being investigated and this is why the bail was increased to $30 K.
I was shocked by this and my mind raced to something he may have had on his phones and I am sure you are all thinking where I am going.
He is due in court today and the person whom called said his mother is going to try to put up bail and try to move him to Tennessee with a ankle monitoring bracelet because she doesn't trust him to be alone in Florida. I have a feeling this website is watched so I trust you and you all may be able to decipher this....I had many calls from private numbers and also 850 area codes ( I suspect his lawyer after calling back ) and I have a feature to block any private calls and goes directly to vm but still shows on my missed caller log. As for the other calls no vm was left.

Just got a call from his mother and his next court appearance is February 6th and she has refused to bail him out.
I have changed my number as mentioned above and they waived the $75 fee to do so.

My last post did not go through...I have disabled the email address he contacted me on and just changed my cell phone number effective tomorrow am.
I get what the previous posters have said and this was always my plan especially when a kind poster here contacted me privately and made alot if good points, advice and help.
I also learned what was found in the search of his home and am sick to my stomach and can reassure it wasn't my first thought involving children. I just cannot believe he was so vindictive, violent and sick. I tried to be his friend and then this..... smh I am a fool!

Still, we appreciate the sharing, so I guess we were amoral by not considering how involved you were in getting those texts.

This!?! That’s one of those really scary questions. It seems to be implied that it is not the expected CP, but something even more disturbing. So stuff indicating a real potential for violence? Creepy threatening stalking materials? Although $30k seems low if he is viewed as a real imminent potential threat of harm to others. Are we talking dead neighborhood pets? Like the Marjory Stoneman Douglas School Shooter? (Or given that this is Bulla, “raped neighborhood pets”?)

Be very very careful. You still gave out far too much information. Things that could be linked back to you in some form. Never discount just how creative an obsessive lunatic can be at piecing shit like that together. You have had direct communications with him. Which means he observed you, and likely took away far more than you realized. This is why people should be very careful when seeking to be compassionate and “helping” mentally ill strangers. Any such help and charity needs to be directed through well structured third parties such as a church or formal aid organization, that can act as a go between and shield once the crazy kicks in. You do not help anyone by bringing their problems and madness into your life, your home. This type of individual is the reason why so many defense lawyers go through life carrying a “panic button” directly linked to the Police.
