Gifts of money under $10k do not need to be reported to the IRS. It would have been more telling if the amount had been $10k or over and D$P had asked any check sent be split into two as to avoid the $10k reporting a bank would do.

True but splitting it would be considered structuring and would raise flags at any bank and they would still get caught on any CTR a bank files.

Who is doing who the favor here?

I mean if this is real, D$P's list of demands for a person offering him $9k is unbelievable:

- brings up a false copy right strike from 8 years ago

- tells him how to send it so he will get it quickest (I thought it was needed for April??)

- BUT then says to send it after January so he can avoid raising his 2018 taxes

- tells the person to keep it quiet to help him 'find the rest of the money' to pay his taxes

- and then of course pulls the heart strings with 'you'd make Kat & I do happy over the holidays'

It’s money transfers, not just “western union”. So basically someone contacts you and they want you to wire them money. They prey on the elderly this way, they’ll call saying they’re the IRS or a relative in trouble and request a wire transfer. It’s basically impossible to track down the money this way after the transfer happens.

People just say “western union” because that’s the company who does the most.
