Probably. Usually the purpose of that is to drug the person enough to make them legally sane enough for trial. In Bulla's case, that might not be possible, or even if it is possible, he could still meet the not guilty by reason of insanity criteria, which would also mean a commitment. Also, depending on what's really going on, he could qualify for civil commitment as a sex offender.

Forgive my not being familiar with the newest updates but it appears as if he has had more charges filed against him and they have now closed the matter due to unable to go to trial and is now a involuntary patient if I am reading it correctly?
I also wonder why this was done before his next scheduled court date in February?

According to the Clerk of Courts website, Bulla's case is officially CLOSED. No trial and straight to the loony bin. It's been a wild 2 years in Pensacola and on this forum. Thanks for all of the great updates, pictures and comments.

One of the saddest things to me is that a lot of his crazy junk is going to just be thrown out. All of his necklaces, that one iconic lamp, his little "Trump!" placard. I hope his knife holder survives in evidence.

If they commit him, it's indefinite, and simply until they deem him able to exist outside of a loony bin without being a danger to self or others.

I'm not sure if they will reopen the case against him if he gets discharged some time soon.

He may have really deteriorated since we saw him last.

I thought they might just be putting him in for psych evaluation and to drug him up enough to be competent to stand trial, but maybe they've just decided he's so nuts it would be completely pointless.

He’s pretty clearly nuts and they got a number of physicians to sign off on it. The DA likely agrees and sees no real path or purpose to proceed in a criminal matter. Family, Judge, Doctors and Attorneys likely all signed off. And in such circumstances nobody cares what John thinks because he is clinically batshit insane.

He’ll be wandering the Florida streets as a homeless hobo in 6 months. I so wish and hope I am wrong. But sad experience tells me that modern psych institutions would kick Hannibal Lechter loose at 6 months unless it was a rich private pay.

I guess the nature of his illness(es) will keep him from ever being so lucid. If you are schizophrenic and get medicine then that can happen, but Bulla imho has such a deep disturbance of his personality that he never "wakes up".

Yes he did that and was discovered by the cleaning firm the landlord HAD to hire for stench/garbage alone then discovered his finger painting!

Thank you for your kind words and I agree about Bulla. His mother was always there and she got leases put in her name because nobody would rent to him. I feel bad for her because she is very embarrassed by all this and now has to pay almost $1.000 for the cleaning crew the landlord hired. He told his mother that in all the years of renting to people and cleaning after a move this was the worst and that he literally lost his lunch when he walked in!

I hope he will co operate with Drs and get the help he needs and to be honest I didn't ever suspect he was that off his rocker to finger paint using his own shit or to even "keep" it and urine in containers! I knew he had issues going on "upstairs" but I never thought it was that bad!
