I previously stated what I thought on the situation but seeing that video under this context makes all the pieces fall on its place.
Desmond avoids eye contact and goes around with his "toys". Stays on a subject and is unable to move a conversation outside of short responses. Shows lack of interest and even shame on what he does.

I miss the old days of Honey Boo Boo. With them the only problem was being redneck caricatures.
