Super Smash Bros.

You push both attack and jump at the same time. It's been more consistent that the normal technique in earlier games for me.
That might be due to them making the way buffering inputs works different. It’s a held input like you’d do in Tekken or KoF now. Also, holy fuck the Gamecube adapters are gone everywhere. No store near me has the proper one, the WiiU one, or the 3rd party ones, and Amazon isn’t saying mine’ll be delivered until January 11th at the earliest.

At least Brawl had the SSE and the amazing cut scenes that came with it, even if it was glorified fanfiction.

With the exception of Smash Run on 3DS, Smash 4's single player stuff felt very meh (*cough* SMASH TOUR) and I wasn't a fan of how the Wii U version implemented Classic Mode and the orders mode. Ultimate is missing stuff like Break the Targets and Stage Builder, but I feel like gameplay and roster wise, it surpasses Sm4sh in every way. People will definitely be looking back on the previous installment in a very interesting light within a year or so.

I kinda miss the trophy system, but for what it's worth, the spirit list is an alright compromise. As for break the targets and home run contest, did anyone ever play them after they got whatever unlock was tied to those modes?

Eh, just get a pro controller. They feel nice, you can use them for other Switch games, they're much bigger and more wieldy than the joycons, and the input delay is about half that of the Gamecube controllers if I remember correctly.

Nope.

The only people who liked HRC and BTT were mostly just completionists. Otherwise people only played it as a minor distraction. Same for the trophies, which were nice but once again just a minor distraction which ate up development time for a minor response of "oh, that's neat" from their players. Spirits are, like stickers, a good way to show off the original art and character designs while also letting them be given proper recognition. They're not as nice as trophies, no, but if those man hours which were spent making trophies are instead used to make characters and balance changes, it's a tradeoff I'd willingly make.

Yeah that's pretty much how I feel. Takes zero effort/minimal space comparatively to add 1000+ PNG's to the game

And frankly as dumb as it seems on paper I'm really into the fact that the Spirits can actually do things as opposed to just being able to stare at trophies and say "oh that's cool" for the handful of characters that hadn't been modelled in 3D in other games yet. I'm strangely into hunting down Spirits that can be enhanced at level 99 or used to summon better ones etc.

Anyone got any tips for All-Star mode other than git gut fgt? I get fucking destroyed by about the 30th character (King Dedede etc)

Ok, but don't tell anyone that let on this secret...
The world is gonna roll me
I ain't the sharpest tool in the shed
She was looking kind of dumb with her finger and her thumb
In the shape of an "L" on her forehead
Well the years start coming and they don't stop coming
Fed to the rules and I hit the ground running
Didn't make sense not to live for fun
Your brain gets smart but your head gets dumb
So much to do, so much to see
So what's wrong with taking the back streets?
You'll never know if you don't go
You'll never shine if you don't glow
Hey now, you're an all-star, get your game on, go play
Hey now, you're a rock star, get the show on, get paid
And all that glitters is gold
Only shooting stars break the mold
It's a cool place and they say it gets colder
You're bundled up now, wait till you get older
But the meteor men beg to differ
Judging by the hole in the satellite picture
The ice we skate is getting pretty thin
The water's getting warm so you might as well swim
My world's on fire, how about yours?
That's the way I like it and I never get bored
Hey now, you're an all-star, get your game on, go play
Hey now, you're a rock star, get the show on, get paid
All that glitters is gold
Only shooting stars break the mold
Hey now, you're an all-star, get your game on, go play
Hey now, you're a rock star, get the show, on get paid
And all that glitters is gold
Only shooting stars
Somebody once asked could I spare some change for gas?
I need to get myself away from this place
I said yep what a concept
I could use a little fuel myself
And we could all use a little change
Well, the years start coming and they don't stop coming
Fed to the rules and I hit the ground running
Didn't make sense not to live for fun
Your brain gets smart but your head gets dumb
So much to do, so much to see
So what's wrong with taking the back streets?
You'll never know if you don't go (go!)
You'll never shine if you don't glow
Hey now, you're an all-star, get your game on, go play
Hey now, you're a rock star, get the show on, get paid
And all that glitters is gold
Only shooting stars break the mold

My understanding is that the gamecube controller actually has the least.

I've been playing with both the Pro controller and the GC one.

I've not gotten completely used to the pro controller, but it's pretty good. Gamecube controls are wired into my brain though.

During the Wii Brawl age, I was just fine using the Wii Remote and Nunchuk.

I can see the debate on which controller is best for Smash is still talked about more than the 90s Console Wars.

Full list of all spirits in the game is now available with this video:

I apologies is I'm wrong, but I could of sworn I saw the main character from tales of Symphonia as a Mii Swordfighter costume.

As someone who stuck a piece of paper from the game box, and thought what was actually early DRM/reselling blocker was super cool, my heart aches.

I been hearing so much rumblings over Cloud and the SE drama. Mainly the whole "Y DOES HE HAVE TWO TRACKS AND ONE STAGE!" drama.

I know him having a Japanese voice are just archival voice samples from either Dissidia or Advent Children and that the English VA is due to Union and would want credit, archival or not.

I just feel SE had the short end of the stick, I know they are somewhat strict with things.

SE is just a badly run company considering their size. They have a lot of really weird arrangements for their company that hurts them overall. The most recent ones I can think of.

- Final Fantasy 12, they tried to shoehorn so much shit into that game (the characters and arcs for both Vaan and Panelo) that the director broke down from stress and was hospitalized. While hospitalized they put those characters in the game and he wouldn't work with the company again until years later (and only for a current FFXII x FFXIV cross event).
- Final Fantasy 14, the entire first launch was a tremendous clusterfuck it's legendary at this point. Even in it's current incarnation there are still issues with the game engine, staleness, and a cash shop.
- Final Fantasy 15, spent 10 years in "development hell" only to steal a bunch of it's assets/combat from a different SE game in development (FF Versus XIII) which was cancelled as a result. It releases in a bad state and the story is a mess but after a year and four planned DLCs they start patching it together and get it to a place where it isn't universally hated only for square to cancel 3 of the DLCs and let the director leave.
- Dragon Quest 11, which was released to mostly glowing reviews but had one huge glaring problem - the music. Long story short, the music director (instead of the company) holds the rights to all of the games' music and they cannot make changes without his permission; also they cannot use different versions (like the better symphonic version) without his permission.
- Final Fantasy 13, anything to do with it.
- Kingdom Hearts 3, will have been in development for a little over six years before finally releasing early next year.

That's just off the top of my head and only on their most recent games. There's likely a hilariously incompetent reason that didn't include more from FF in smash and I hope it sees the light of day.
