Is this an unpopular opinion? The FPS genre is fucking dead and it's a travesty, literally nobody plays good FPS games these days, TF2 is dead as fuck, nobody is interested in arena shooters at all. The genre is dead in the water and there's not a single good first person shooter with a playerbase worth a damn. I just want to play a fun fast paced shooter with good movement and quake-like weapons. Also quake champions can go to hell.
The only significant changes to the formula they made in champions aside from the graphics that give me microstutters and prevent me from getting smooth 300 fps are the stupid cooldown abilities that just do not fit the genre at all, they're so awkward and jarring and just not a good fit for an otherwise pure skill-based FPS. It blows. Everyone just has a button on their keyboard that instantly makes me rage and wish I was playing something else. This is the most boomer post I have seen on this site in quite a while.
And Quake Champions did nothing wrong. A key reason why arena shooters are dead is because it is a stagnant genre. People cannot get past quake 3 or UT and just want that remade again and again.

I kinda like the tribolt thing though.
You are right, but it doesn't make me any less upset about the fate of the FPS genre. This goes back to my original point though. Either you do a mild change to the settings and it’s not enough, and people go back to Quake 3. Or you make deep changes and everyone gets mad you change an iconic formula.
This is why a reason why it stagnated and died IMO.

One man's stagnation is another man's PERFECTION.
FUCK man why you gotta do this to metribes
FUCK man why you gotta do this to me

and add to that, random crits aren't bad; and people who usually bitch about them are manchildrenOverwatch is unplayable garbage.
Random crits are retarded, they were implemented with the view that they would help break stalemates, but in effect they generally just help dominant players stay dominant because of how the crit chance ramp-up works. Nobody with a clue likes random crits.and add to that, random crits aren't bad; and people who usually bitch about them are manchildren
i disagree on the grounds since it's been the game since TF2's conception, and that was when it wasn't F2P. Where was the protesting for its removal been happening, considering that this was an issue that occured since then, why is it only very recently that it needs to be removed?Random crits are exceptional, they were implemented with the view that they would help break stalemates, but in effect they generally just help dominant players stay dominant because of how the crit chance ramp-up works. I've been playing TF2 since 2007 and I can tell you people always hated random crits, and people have been very vocally bitching about it for years at this point, it isn't a recent development.i disagree on the grounds since it's been the game since TF2's conception, and that was when it wasn't F2P. not to mention you had to pay $50-60 and without knowing, you'd get bum rushed; but since it went F2P, you only thing you lose is time downloading and installing the gameI've been playing TF2 since 2007 and I can tell you people always hated random crits, and people have been very vocally bitching about it for years at this point, it isn't a recent development.
Edit: and whether or not people have been complaining about it consistently for the entire time has no basis on whether it's a good mechanic or not. It fails in its stated goal, it pisses people off and it shits all over new players in a way they don't understand.
TF2 was never that expensive, it was released on the orange box with 4 other games for $30, individually it was never more than $20 and for most of the time it was out before F2P it was only around $10 if I remember correctly. One of the things that was great about Valve 10 years ago was their pricing.not to mention you had to pay $50-60 and without knowing, you'd get bum rushed; but since it went F2P, you only thing you lose is time downloading and installing the game
that is true, but my point was more on paying money and getting bumrushed for a newer player is more devestating in comparison of getting it F2P and getting bumrushedTF2 was never that expensive, it was released on the orange box with 4 other games for $30, individually it was never more than $20 and for most of the time it was out before F2P it was only around $10 if I remember correctly.
