Defense mechanism. If he does it while its popular plenty of people will get more out of it than him and this'll make him incredibly bitter and jealous. Also part of the reason he doesn't change his modus operandi - nobody can beat him at his 10 years of raw unedited uninspired legacy so he can feel good about something.
Probably. Its interesting that he can't try anything "new" without absolutely shitting on it. He can't play any games with friends, he can't have an new experience with something without being a dumbass about it.
It makes me wonder when was the last time he actually experienced "fun" with video games/movies or even wrassling.
This is why his "I work every day" manifesto is so exceptional, no one doing that kind of work can keep their eyes focused for so long without getting bored... unless its CWC and sonichu but we can debate whether sonic is even "fun" for CWC.
If you exclude netflix which handfeeds you new qwality kahntent, when was the last time you heard DSP actively seek out some game or movie no one had heard of? I don't think I've ever seen him do that.
Like what about the new/unknown indie game on the console store that cost $3 and he bought "just to see what its like" and then decided to stream about it? I've never seen him do that, he only seems to focus on what is already popular/hated.
Some of my favorite music, TV shows and games I only discovered through randomness or because I saw an obscure reference or brief mention of them somewhere. If I actually "like" whatever it is isn't down to PewdiePie or Ninja's coverage but always something intrinsic and some quality that is difficult to define.
If DSP loves or hates something he has to mention what other people think of it first. He can't just come out and say
"I really like this game [insert title], even though its very simple, the whole system of the game is so well done and I'm really it. I'm really challenged by [insert aspect] but its very rewarding trying to perfect it. Even when I screw up I'm still having a lot of fun"
Its like when a person is put in the confrontational position of answering the historic question of "what makes you attracted to them". Its probably not exhaustively conclusive, but you can often quickly tell by their mannerisms, expressions and wording if there really is something special they see in that person.
Similarly, if someone explains what they love about someone how DSP does ("helping around the house", "HOMEMADE cooking") it comes across very transparently. Beyond holiday habit watching of Halloween and Christmas movies, I don't think I've heard him really be passionate about a game. He's passionate about street fighter, but his passion is fleeting and he has no unique way of showing his enthusiasm except for shouting and slamming controllers.
Even if you look at boomers and zoomers who are very passionate about their car, and even if you don't give a shit about cars and you see how they talk about their car and proudly discuss each aspect of their vehicle-autism from the wheels to the exhaust pipe you can respect their hobby.
What the fuck is DSP's hobby? What does he actually talk with passion about?
TLDR: I bet this nigga hasn't even watched Mad Max 2, played a point and click adventure or watched a movie from 50 years ago with subtitles. He definitely hasn't been drunk at a bar and struck up a discussion with some foreigners about what kind of food their country has or said something like "
I've read a lot about [insert famous city/area/landmark], I'd really love to visit one day, the photos of it are really beautiful?". He's probably can't even discuss why he likes his energy drinks with the cashier at the supermarket.
"Redemption run" my ass you don't enjoy any game you play because you haven't done anything differently for a decade, you'll play the game the same fucking way or play it in some super pleb popular way.
Just look at "Cooking with the king". DSP gets a lot of shit for his cooking, and he partly deserves it. Instead of turning things around and surprise releasing an episode where he really puts effort into something which is challenging and making people interested decides he should just bored quit cooking.
"DSP tries it" is the same shit, why the fuck doesn't he order food from a badly rated restaurant or try some snack product from a gas station?
Look at the guy in this video who I'm indifferent about, he seems to have made a name for himself by trying the worst reviewed stuff in his city:
No one else needs a green screen or soundproofing or a black belt in personal defence in case their neighbour bangs on their door and tells them to shut up to do this shit. The reason DSP doesn't is because he's the cow that's been put out to pasture after having extended his productive life making YouTube bank and now he's incapable of delivering anything interesting.
Being a YT/Twitch celeb isn't really the special Olympics (debatable) and you don't get awarded a prize just for competing by uploading your shit using click and drag with no editing every day. You actually have to put in effort and give a shit if you want people to believe you care.
That's why he talks shit about Jack Black's gaming channel. Like DSP said, who the fuck cares about Jack Black, what about 2 years ago when Terry Crews (the black guy from the old spice commercials so you don't have to google) made a gaming channel with his son?
Terry didn't keep up with it for long, but he
at least made the effort. He's 50 years old, and if he can manage to set up Steam and a Twitch account and upload to YouTube all of the drama you try to place on your "job" doesn't mean shit. Its something that has zero skill set.
Even Robbin Williams named his daughter Zelda on account of his enjoyment of video games 30 years ago. Your ability to tap a controller or the amount of time you've been doing it doesn't fucking matter, no one cares and video games have never been more accessible to not only the elderly but people who are entirely deaf/blind.
Your legacy doesn't matter.
Want to know why PewdiePie/Ninja/Jack Black became popular? Sure part of it has to do with acting like a sperg, but those fuckers either tried either tons of different games and found a match or came across as being genuine to their audience.
Rant over, but the only thing DSP should be doing right now is looking to take a long break from streaming and finding a more dependable source of income. I don't think its beyond his capabilities to actually be a more entertaining streamer, he just needs a lot more perspective.
