I believe that is part of why so many women were being supportive of Jonathan Yaniv when he was being openly creepy from the start. The definition of support has slowly changed over the years to where now troons can claim their sexually inappropriate behavior stems from their gender dysphoria, and you're being a mean bully if you don't like it. And hey, you're not transgender, so you don't know what it feels like to be "dysphoric". It sounds awful, and you don't want to be a transphobe, so instead of telling them off, you try to be supportive, even if you feel really creeped out.
There's also the threat of public shaming. If he went around denouncing you as a mean TERF who calls him, an innocent transwoman, creepy (like he did with Meghan Murphy and other feminists on Twitter), he could convince all your SJW friends to cut off contact with you. And if you're a good supportive ally, you'll have already ditched any other friends who've been called terves, so that could mean losing your whole friends circle. It's the same sort of dynamic that keeps people in cults even after they've stopped believing in their shit.
It makes it extra fun to see him getting publicly shamed for being a nonce.
