Blackfishers are people for whatever reason feel the need to misrepresent themselves as black. Many of these people are Instagram thots who undergo spray-tans, tanning beds, makeup, lip fillers, hair dyes, and hair perms/curling to look like a black girl. Notable Instagram blackfishers are Emma Hallberg of Sweden, Mika Francis of Bali, Alicja Ab of the UK, Celina Hansen of Norway, Hannah Winnifred Tittensor of Belfast and Woah Vicky but she already has her own thread. Black Twitter got very upset at blackfishers in mid-2018 which gave the community a fair bit of media attention. The main complaint was that blackfishers pretend to be a stereotypical version of a sexy black woman, but without any actual understanding of black culture or even realizing most black women don't look like the sexy women they portray.

Race Fakers are similar to blackfishers but they can be of any race pretending to be another race, they can be vague about their actual race or claim that they are black/asian/latino/native/white outright. Often people do this for attention, scholarships, work positions in affirmative action workplaces, or simply because of mental illness. Some Race Fakers claim to be 'Trans-Racial' in an effort to justify misrepresenting their race. Examples of this are Rachael Dolezal who already has a thread. A black race faker pretending she is white is Treasure from Dr. Phil. An Asian to Black race faker is Mindy Kaling's brother Vijay Chokal-Ingam who pretended to be black to get into med school. Black Lives Matter activist and The Intercept columnist Shaun King's racial self identification was brought into question when it was revealed that both parents on his birth certificate were identified as white. https://archive.fo/Yj2Ig

trans-racials- they're batshit fucking crazy and come in all forms. there's bafflement as much as outrage against them. some are probably straight up exceptional as opposed to blackfishers who are just con artists.

True. It’s so strange to see blackface being somewhat accepted in modern culture. Americans regard Minstrel shows, coon songs, and black face as “artifacts of the past” despite popular culture suggesting the contrary in various ways. It’s surreal to see these women pass off tanning and heavy makeup as normal when the latter was used so often in black face.

it's important to remember that blackfishing is TOTALLY NOT ACCEPTED because it basically is blackface when people find out what these girls are doing. that's what makes it so lolcowworthy, there's a huge shitstorm that follows any time they are found out

if you subscribe to the idea, then the theory is something like this: "appropriation" is disrespectfully taking without asking permission or giving credit (like plagiarizing) while "sharing" is respectfully taking with permission and giving credit.

im not black so im no expert here but im confident that black people would like to be respected, and girls who put on blackface to get attention on their instagram accounts are not at all motivated by respect. they just want attention for themselves because they are selfish.
