Nobody can get in-between a bisexual and her love of dick. We've always dealt with political lesbianism, either feminists or kweers believing lesbian was a state of mind they could identify into even while actively pursuing sex and relationships with men. Lesbians simply don't have the numbers to fight this. The population of gay men is estimate at least 3x greater than ours.
And to be fair, the phenomenon of heterosexuals in the trans community is very recent. I received credit in high school for volunteering with an AIDS charity. Trans women were mostly gay in my city back in 2008 and they shared spaces with gay men and kept to themselves. Somewhere in the same timeframe, the LGBT community shifted to more than 50% bisexual, which allowed the BT an opportunity to take back what they thought was theirs. Now homosexuals are called genital fetishists, and between the bisexuals & transhets, they've decided being gay is a choice again.
There never was a welcome mat. During the legislative battles for same-sex marriage, gay people were constantly accused of wanting special rights for being perverts. Through queer magic, a bunch of kids and hostile crossdressers decided that sounded like a good idea. At first gays were afraid to call this out lest we all look like degenerates. They counted on that too.
It was always a hostile takeover.
