It's weird in a way that Dan and co's efforts to protect quinn made the situation worse. When Dan dragged channel awesome into the shit-show he cultivated resentment within their ranks while broadcasting the situation to people who wouldnt have given a single shit.
If it hadnt been for people like Dan and Devlin farraci, Gamergate would have been wrapped up a lot quicker as a minor scandal. Even Quinn seems to understand people like Dan where an liability rather than an asset.
This is of coarse not considering what and absolute fountain of lolcows and drama the thing was. No one would know about Dan 'pedogedon' Olsen antics if it wasnt for this. He might even have a bigger channel and mores success spreading his views since less people would loathe him.

While I was working, of all things, on a fucking Megaman video, I found another one of these bizarre connections, and it's thanks to Dan that a Lolcow I thought had gone to ground managed to resurface.

This all began when I was working on sources for a video. A megaman vid I was working on necessitated I discuss the MN9 debacle and Dina with it, and when I was digging, I found this image.

I found the above post, by Andrew Dickman, a Channel Awesome creator, and Animator I once had grudging respect for in the long-forgotten past white knighting Dina Abou Karam on the official Mighty Number 9 forums, and his post being allowed to stay up despite violating community guidelines because Dina was in charge at the time and the post defending her.

"That's an odd thing," I thought to myself, looking at that. "Another Channel Awesome creator coming to some random idiot's defense. Wonder if there was some other stuff like that someplace. Lindsay certainly seems like the sort to be in contact with someone that fucked."

Now, unfortunately, Dina was never quite big enough to support a thread on her own. This is a shame because after she was fired by Comcept, she entered a decaying orbit, got into trouble for sperg-fighting people on Twitter, and just... Disappeared. I had honestly thought she had simply DELETED FUCKING EVERYTHING, since she deleted her Patreon, but this turned out to be not the case.

See, Kiwis, the Internet Autism Machine keeps records, and something I learned when dealing with Laurelai is that conversations don't completely disappear just because when an account gets deleted. Just the participant does. So if you know whoever that user was in active contact with, you can data mine at least half the conversation that way. Unfortunate for Dina, the company she chose to keep was our favorite Parkourdude9 cosplayer, and doing a simple search Dan Olson, who's been in constant contact with her since her GG days, revealed that he's been chatting her up ever since, and been in threads where she admits to having purchased a Pikachu Tail Buttplug, and appears to be surrounded by people more fucked up than her.

Meaning, Dan may have led us to a legacy cow that initially escaped, but that might be fodder for another thread.

Like seriously, we need to put together some sort of chart that links all these people together, I assume probably 70% of the people on lolcow have some connection to another lolcow. The 30% are either just the batshit insane horrowcows, and the right wingers who they will completely refuse to acknowledge the existence of. I'm sure we'd be able to figure out the major players that the rest all connect from. I'm guessing it would be people that have strong industry positions who are willing to recommend their buddies to companies.

So I'd start with Leigh Alexander, since she was at Kotaku, graduated to Gamasutra in 2010, then also got leader Tech writer for TIME and VICE, the positions she held at the start of Gamergate. Most people theorize she was the troubleshooter for the media during this time. Now she is in a sort of freelance/advisory role. She interacts with most of the big wigs at Kotaku, as well as Zoe, Lindsay Ellis, almost anyone whos anyone in media in SF/NY seems to be best buds with her.

Secondly, Christopher Pooles BFF, Mallory Blair. Publicist/Marketing. Forbes top 30 under 30, HuffingtonPost writer, CEO of smallgirlspr. You can find like 10 articles trying to convince investors to give her money, which tells me her social networking is very strong in the tech industry. Probably the one who suggested they go to watch Anita Sarkeesians speech at SXSW before moot decided to pack it in and sell 4chan.

Yeah I meant that, I agree it wasnt a deliberate event rather a organic occurance. They studyied an occuring event in the wild, interceeded to gain data and applied the lessons learnt further down the line.

He really isn't. As far as I can tell from the various stories, his mistakes were more along the lines of Sergeant Pilcher who set out to get the Rolling Stones and the Beatles.
