Yep. Real subtle, TVTropes. Real subtle.

Steven Universe:
  • Garnet's third eye (and in turn, Sapphire's single eye) can invoke this in first-time viewers. This is presumably why Garnet wears a visor (and why Sapphire's hair covers her face).
  • Smoky Quartz is one of the more human-like fusions, except their left hand divides into two, giving them an odd number of limbs in total.
  • While creative freedom is encouraged for storyboard artists, there are some insistences where the characters look off, such as Pearl being too stretched out, Amethyst appearing too bloated, and Steven's face misshaping. This was more notorious in the earlier episodes.
  • Deliberately invoked with Frybo when brought to life. It moves like an animatronic, follows orders literally, materializes food from inside itself and 'bleeds' ketchup and mustard. Later it gains vain-like bulges and the fries on the top of its head become prehensile.
  • Also played intentionally in any episode involving Rose's Room. The room can accurately represent Steven's views of his friends and family even managing to fool him with a replica of Connie, but this trope comes into play whenever it attempts to replicate too much, such as the whole of Beach City, or a complete personality. The result can be creepy, if well-intentioned by the eponymous room.
  • White Diamond and White Pearl in "Legs From Here to Homeworld".
    • White Pearl has a INCREDIBLY robotic behavior, seems to be forever stuck in the same pose as her Diamond, with only her mouth moving, is perpetually smiling, overrules Blue and Yellow Diamond, glides instead of walking, even going through walls... and where her left eye should be, there's just a huge crack and a faint round outline. Unlike every other Pearl we've seen, she shares the voice of her Diamond, suggesting... something else.
    • White Diamond acts in a way that's both overly cheering and intimidating at the same time, calls the intergalactic war Pink caused "a game", and asks questions and keeps talking without expecting an actual answer. She also has eyes but no pupils... Also, she is stuck in a sort-of T-Pose, with her arms outstretched, and the only part of her that has movement is her face (while literally the entire rest of her body is drawn in the same style and with the same methods as the scenery).

Stop trying to make SU sound super awesome, tropers. You're terrible at it.

  • Super Smash Bros., while not an example for the fanbase as a whole, has historically struggled to satisfy the Tournament Play community with later installments. Melee was — and still is — recognized as a worthy fighting game, with its fast pace and in-depth techniques (a couple of which having been a result of Good Bad Bugs) often providing intense rounds. When Brawl slowed down the overall pace, added a few cases of Random Number God(most notably "tripping") and removed the aforementioned Good Bad Bugs, potential for competitive play lowered as a consequence (to the point where a fanmade mod was made in an attempt to bring back Melee's more well-received mechanics). For 3DS and Wii U approached a more competitive format by removing the random elements and making the game's pace slightly faster, but with Melee still making appearances in various fighting game tournaments, the former game remains standing in the shadows that the latter game has cast.
LOL, they actually treat competitive Smash seriously, not realizing that none of the games (including their precious Melee) were intended for the competitive fighting game spergs.

All good competitive games were not intended to be e-sports games, it happens naturally.

Starcraft 1 was made to be a successor to warcraft with different races who weren't palette swaps. It turned into an e-sports phenomenon.
Counter-strike was a half life mod, that because a huge e-sports thing.

On the other hand starcraft 2 was designed from the ground up to be a competitive RTS for e-sports. It failed to be that, and failed to be fun at the same time.

Super Smash bros is fun, melee was very much skill based, so I don't know what your point is supposed to be, except weird videogame smugness. What, only anime 2d fighters count?

It seems that Tropers think that Smash Bros., a party game in the style of a fighter, that happened to attract e-sports autists because of a physics bug, should cater towards e-sports, even when games like Street Fighter V have proven that that's a very bad idea.
There's also the implication that Tropers think the Smash team are really trying to cater to those e-sports gamers.
EDIT: There's also the whole thing about Melee being a "Tough Act to Follow", when in reality, it's really only the competitive crowd, which isn't as big as people would have you believe, that thinks that way.

Even that's heavily oversimplifying it, even without the physics bug it was a good competitive fighter, that dumb physics bug just shaped the entire metagame around itself.

But I see what you're saying, and agree, no games should be made to cater to e-sports, and it's totally a bad idea. It made starcraft 2 suck. And most people aren't playing for an audience, so really it's better to make sure its fun for the players, as it doesn't matter how fun it is to watch if nobody plays it.
