I've been currently watching the Tokyopop dub (found the DVDs at my local Half-Price), and I enjoy it. The car lingo goes over my head and the AMV-esque transitions Tokyopop edited in is... weird, but it otherwise holds my interest.

Also the Tokyopop dub has Robbie Rist as one of the characters. If you don't recognize the name...

Pretty gnarly.

But you gotta go looking for that dub if you want to watch it dubbed. Haven't checked out the Funimation dub yet.

Ok since I am absolutely inept at picking new weeb shit to marathon I have decided to chose anime based entirely upon the first clip I see on youtube "ANIME MEEEMEES" compilations

First up is *rolls proverbial dice*

....Darling in FranXX

Looks like giant robots which hasn't really ever been in my purview but I vaguely memba hearing positive buzz around it a while ago from the same people who recommended Made in Abyss so im fairly optimistic

Alright. Four episodes in to FranXX and even I am impressed by the sheer tonnage of sexual innuendo. Its like somebody let the Todd from Scrubs be on the writing team for an anime.

Not that it hasnt been pretty good so far though.

Anime newbs are attacking My Hero Acadenia.... again.

NO DIFFERENT

I'm amazed that these aninewbs haven't found Dizzy from Guilty Gear

Honestly, I pity Horikoshi, having to deal with these bastards constantly judging his every move seems nothing short of painful. Plus, I wonder if most of the people who criticize him like this are a bunch of fujoshis who fawn over hot boys.

Anybody read the latest mha chapter? Im glad Shinsou and Deku are having another fight but Im not sure how I feel about Deku having more than 1 quirk. It was already great that he had the super strength/stockpile quirk from OFA but now he has like 6 more to learn?!

I dont know. I trust the author to not mess it up and add some new twists to it, but Im still not sure what to except. Im also wondering if monamo will know Deku was quirkless. And hopefully Shinsou gets to be in class a or b after this arc ends.

i think it can work if done right. Look how much he almost crippled himself learning to use One For All, and he still hasn’t fully mastered it. And now he’s gotta learn 6 other Quirks from scratch without knowing what most of them are. It’s the difference between growing up learning how to drive a simple car and being tossed into a state of the art race at and expected to learn how to drive then and there.
While also controlling five other cars.
It’s a risk for sure, but I think he can pull it off.

I just finished Re: Zero episode 15

Holy Shit... is this Puck? What does he mean by "sleep along with my daughter?"

Yeah I could see why it could difficult. Especially since Deku could only use like 20% of OFA. But he seems to be able to do the shadow binds really well or at least what we can see in the last chapter.

Im curious as to what the other quirks are. And who the last 2 OFA users are since they havent shown them yet. And it seems like a few if them were quirkless since there's only 6 quirks or so that Deku has to learn.

Im betting Bakugou is going to flip once he learns about this.

Okiedokie. 16 episodes through Darling in the Filthy FranXX

Not gonna like, im actually really enjoying it and its pressing all my weeb story buttons.

However between this and most of the other anime I have taken a liking to* it has made me realise that I have an almost perverse liking for anime involving kids/teens doing apparently fun and awesome and badass shit that gets steadily more deconstructed as it becomes clear that they are just getting punched in the dick both figuratively and literally over and over again by an uncaring and hateful world.

*made in abyss, berserk, FMA, madoka

Alright. Finished Darling in the FranXX

While the overall plot kinda went a bit bananas in the final half dozen episodes and the ending felt a tad rushed, and I have mentioned before how the sexual innuendo in the first half of the show was a bit distracting, honestly I think the whole thing was pretty damn good thanks largely to the character interactions/storylines and the thematic elements contained within the show as a whole, and I anticipate my opinion will rise even further after a customary "rewatch to understand and enjoy all the forshadowing" marathon.

If the final half dozen episodes had been stretched into a full dozen plus episode "season 2" and the story elements within had been forshadowed a bit better I think I would have barely any complaints, and would have given the show more opportunity to focus on its strengths of characters and theme.

On an entirely unrelated note, can anyone recommend a nice light hearted and decidedly non kick-judge-holden-in-the-emotional-testicles-and-leave-him-a-sobbing-manbaby-wreck animeee for me?

Have you checked out Saiki Kusuo no Psi-Nan? It's hilarious.

Go watch Sexy Commando Gaiden: Sugoiyo!! Masaru-san.

Or check out Ping Pong Club for some batshit Japanese South Park insanity. I highly recommend the dub if you're into hearing Yu-Gi-Oh characters calling each other pieces of shit.
