Jonathan Frakes (he who wrote one of the STD episodes this season) confirmed what Patrick Stewart once hinted and/or said about the new Picard series: Picard is or at the very least starts out not as a Starfleet Captain because he "moved on from that"

I always skip over the first two seasons but recently decided to suffer through them and was blown away by that episode. It felt like a horror movie and I don't remember Trek ever having that tone before or after, I was impressed. I didn't remember the episode at all when I watched it so it caught me off guard in a good way.

I know he's directing a few episodes but writing? Really? I thought they didn't want white people behind the camera anymore? I mean that's why Robert Duncan-McNeill is working on The Orville.

The Picard show is already a lost cause, Kurtzman will see to that.

Later in the podcast, Kurtzman again picked up on this theme, saying:

It has become a mission to me. [Working on the movies] was a wonderful job that I was lucky to get with a lot of people who were so talented, and frankly knew more than I did, much more. But now, it is different. Now I feel finally I can authentically call myself – I dunno Trekkie, Trekker? – I guess you have to pick your definition of that. But now that I have so fallen in love with the world, and kind of claimed my place in it in a different way, I think it has opened up to me in a way that is different than it used to be.

'Trek for people who hate Trek' is what's on the menu, no matter how many legacy crew members get involved. Frakes direction did not save or beard STD, which is still one of the worst written, worst cast, worst lit shows in existence.

Nothing can save STD, and with Kurtzman helming Picard there is surely no chance that it won't blow. How could they possibly prevent Kurtzman et al from wiping their asses all over it?

just lol. they should stop spending so much on vfx and maybe invest in a complete redesign of all of their costumes, creatures, and sets. Also start from scratch with casting (triggered). Fire everyone responsible for that soap opera lighting. Probably best to just stop altogether.

I still can't get over how shit the Discovery Uniforms look who would think that a military operation would have tiny versions of it's symbol all over it is a good idea? Everything down to the smallest details of Discovery screams WHY?

It's clearly made by people who either have no military knowledge or weren't interested in talking to a military consultant. The delta pattern is the least of its problems. The uniforms are way too tight, it's not a thing that someone would wear all-day long. The shiny gold or silver parts look ridiculous and make the owner an easy target for the klingorcs. The rank pips is hard to notice, they're on the badge for some reason.
