Hell, half the time the motive isn't even about that the characters don't look like them or wanting something that reflects their culture, because 90% of the time the race-bending art turns out to be some pasty white chick feeling guilty that her faves are too pale to be used for brownie points in the Tumblr/SJW Cool Kids Club.

That's why half the time this kind of art tends to just be a desaturated palette swap or a really tone deaf racial caricature. It has nothing to do with making the character more relateable to them, but so they can show off how much they love black people to all those black friends they don't have.

This is a canon where there's a whole village full of people who can be seen as black (i.e, Killer Bee, A, Karui, Omoi, Darui, etc.!) Why the fuck don't these dumbasses try drawing these people and giving them more fanwork, rather than blackwashing/tanning the main characters?!

Because that would mean their extremely narrow worldview is wrong and deep down they know it would be racist as fuck to make ugly caricatures of those characters.
