I think the larger point of this evaluation will be to establish a comprehensive assessment of Bodhi’s functioning and environment, that DCFS and their doctors can have on file (rather than rely on someone Susan Dr shopped for, or someone who has Only seen Bodhi once like their last appt). They’ll do a full physical, psychological, and cognitive work-up; they’ll look at records of his medical history; they will interview family members thoroughly and maybe even teachers (at least, that’s what a very comprehensive work-up would look like). They will be able to pinpoint parts of his environment that are not serving him, and they will surely observe his interactions with Susan, so that will include observations about overstimulation, lack of boundary setting, and over medication. They will look for signs of abuse and trauma, so they may note flags for Cori.
Basically, this is a chance for third party professionals to spend intensive time with and learning about Bodhi, and their findings can be a basis for DCFS to formally open a case. They can use these findings to establish a parenting plan that Susan and Cory must abide by to maintain custody. If they aren’t working their plan, they can and will award primary custody to Michael (if Michael wants it and also works any plan set for him).
Susan and Cory won’t work the plan. They will pretend they are, but this story has a public spotlight on it, so DCFS is now going to be VERY motivated to keep a close eye on them. They don’t need another PR disaster.
