Muscato comes from money. When he worked with my friend, he was actually an unpaid intern. I was told he could afford to do that in his 30's because he had money saved up (from family or an inheritance). He never graduated from college. I guess he was well-known on campus for being a lazy sack of shit, changing his major every year, and taking as few classes as possible (sometimes only 1 or 2 a semester). He's very careful to not say he has a degree, but he does like talking about how he was an anthropology major (it was his major for less than a year before he dropped out/was kicked out of college). Before he became a euphoric atheist & then trooned out, he traveled the country as a Christian singer. He might have even released some Christian albums, but I didn't care enough to look.

He somehow got hired as the Public Relations guy for American Atheists despite having no real qualifications other than "really liking to sperg out about atheism." Shockingly to no one, he fucked up time & time again. My personal favorite was when he tried to celebrate Cinco de Mayo (a Mexican holiday)...by sharing a memeified image of his boss (Dave Silverman, a lolcow in his own right) wearing a sombrero, advertising a conference in Puerto Rico.

And after he got called out by different atheist/skeptic bloggers, he frantically emailed all of them to argue that it actually wasn't racist, because he ran it by two Latino friends & they were okay with it.

But the best is yet to come. Back in 2013, Dave wrote a lengthy Facebook post, chastising women for saying "I have a boyfriend" when they reject an overly persistent man instead of being honest, because being honest is the moral thing to do, and lying is immoral . Also, how are men supposed to learn not to harass women if women don't tell them how annoying they're being? He also rags on "alpha males" & talks about how he was beaten up all the time as a kid "just because the other kids were stronger." But the real coup de grace comes from one of his comments:

"To use myself as an example, I have been on exactly three dates in the last 2.5 years, and I'm really at the point of giving up on dating entirely, because I'm sick of playing this game. I'm think I'm a pretty good guy, relatively. I give a significant portion of my income to charity; I volunteer, I play several instruments, I love animals, I'm an a civil-rights activist by profession, I travel a lot, I read Latin, I have a serious interest in photography and I collect art, I've run 3 half-marathons, I love to travel, blah blah blah. But I'm done with it; as a man I am actively and explicitly discouraged from talking to women because I might be a rapist. It's just not worth it to me. I would rather put my energy into activism if I'm going to be treated like a potential rapist just because I don't have a stamp on my forehead that says "Not a rapist.""

I appreciate all the historic Dave leaks. It's nice to have it clarified that he was never a normal person with a real job.

:bork: He deliberately catastrophized the reasons women turned him down. He's like a moron who whines that he's such a nice guy because he would never hit a woman. He set the bar so low, few middle class people could miss it. Of course this guy's dating prospects dried up rapidly with his youth, no smart woman would want to be tied to a lazy, uneducated mooch.

How is "soyboy" homophobic? Is he implying that there is some kind of a link between soy and homosexuality? If so, how is this not a blatant example of the horseshoe theory in action?

I thought "soyboy" referred to the skinny, pallid, decidedly non-athletic sort of young, urban, white male who is heavy into veganism and self-hating leftist politics. That seems to be its meaning where I live.

Maybe a decade ago, IIRC, there was an article that purported to link high consumption of soy estrogens in childhood and later homosexuality, but it was a piece of crap. So "soyboy" did start out as an anti-gay insult, but it was used against the kinds of young straight men described above, who are perceived as weak, and failing at masculinity. AFAICT, nobody even links it to actual gayness any more.

Some trans women are naturally petite and feminine and can be taken for a woman at a quick glance. Dave is not such a person.

Yeah, don't expect people at work to read all your tiny buttons before addressing you.
I have no idea if Dave was wearing that BLM shirt, but I wouldn't doubt it.

Men can have long hair.
Men can wear tights.
Men can wear pink bandanas.
Women can have no hair, short nails dressed in all blue, and people would be able to tell it's a woman.
Relying on gender stereotypes is not going to work.

That pin with pronouns is at least an approach.
But think bigger so folks can't miss it.

I would guess it's because the vast majority of people don't really think about 'preferred' pronouns. Just a guess.
