so tl;dr -After years of them crying about how they just want to talk about issues in vidya (and tangentially related "social issues"), the mods attempted to set new rules to keep the focus on vidya over self-fellating text posts. Despite on its face being what they wanted, the gamers rose up anyway?
The biggest problem is that the sub wasn't abandoned/closed after GG was supposedly over. When the collective enemy began to buckle down and get weaker, the autists started to pick fights among themselves.

This isn't exclusive to KiA, it is endemic to almost all of the pro-GG figures.

but that was imo the key turning point I think where a lot of them finally realized they were never going to be taken seriously, and it really effected them.
Who the hell thought that people calling for ethics in what is essentially EA/Activision/Ubisoft PR campaigns would be taken seriously by anyone?

The GG cause is just so small-minded and the story behind it is very tough to explain to normies without seeming like a totally-unhinged
weirdo to them.

Those two factors made it a fringe movement at best. The fact that it was also essentially leaderless also gave the opportunity to dumbass neckbeards to use it both for relevance and money. Politics and partisanship also started seeping into the movement, because the aforementioned neckbeards who rode the movement needed to sustain their non-careers' growth, so you got shit like Bloodsports..etc

As a result of all this, I legitimately cannot find any real long-term "win" for the pro-GG side in this. Not only is it imploding extremely fast before our eyes, it's major enemies are now either thriving or right where they were before GG ever started. The status quo has resetted completely, and any changes in it are now for the worse (ex. how much did Zoe make last year vs 5 years ago?).

Well that's what happens when your opponents claim you're angry about women in video games, and your response is to do and say shit which any neutral party will conclude means you're angry about women in video games.

"Muh ethics in gaming journalism" was pretty much just optics-cucking.
"please don't call me misogynist, I just donated to get MORE feminists into gaming. Match me!"
And yes, that actually happened, they raised about 30,000 dollars for a game jam to "own the libs". That's where they got their "Vivian James" mascot.

That's why the people who actually got stuff done left when reddit-cucks like Sargon took control of Gamergate...

There were power groups trying to pick sperg-fights within GG during the conflict. Some of these were third-party trolls trying to take the piss, but a huge number were either genuine counter-operative operations or attempt to force the movement to do what one power group or another wanted. You can look back at archives of KIA and incidents throughout GG and see this shit happening in real time, from Ethan Ralph and the BWC actively trying to push GG to sperg-fight the Antis, regardless of costs to Mundane Matt riding the controversy until the second he got caught lying out his ass, or the countless attempts to shut down GG communities on other sites.

The difference, and why I generally consider the rule changes to be the tipping point, is that these incidents were all called out for what they were. So was Devi Ever and other obvious speds that were clearly dipping their toes in the water for their own ends and didn't give a shit about anything but themselves. When the rule change hit and you couldn't call out the speds being speds anymore, that was tacitly the moment that the community's fate was sealed.

I don't know man, maybe I am seeing things this way because I only knew about GG after I registered here, but I think almost all of the figure heads either were using the movement or turned around and used it later.

I don't think there is any real distinction between the ethics of someone like Ethan or Bryan Dunn or Desi Ever..etc.

The only difference between them is in how well they pulled off the con..

Ethan has a legitimate interest in how an industry operates when he has made it his life's work to produce content in that industry and creates legitimately meritorious work.

I've tried posting on them for so many times and they always delete and eventually banned me.

I've really grown to dislike how certain websites, blogs, and subreddits misappropriate the ideas of George Orwell and 1984, but KiA is by far the worst offender. I am never going to reference Orwell ever in my writing because I don't want to desecrate his ideas any further.

Yeah 1984 has basically become the Harry Potter for these types. Like there’s other books you can reference besides 1984. Like for instance Fahrenheit 451 which is all about media censorship

Most of them haven’t read 1984 or any book for that matter that wasn’t assigned by a teacher.

Reddit in general just likes to parrot 1984 a lot for both sides of the coin that it’s annoying. I actually didn’t even read it but even a bit of research can get you to see who actually reads it and who doesn’t. They only parrot them because it’s about censorship anyway.

The Fine Young Capitalists? Wonder what happened to them.

If you don't think there's any difference, you don't know any of those three.
Each has wildly differing reasons they got involved and why they subsequently found themselves unwelcome:

Ever was in it for the financial scam, and wasn't pro-GG for very long. In fact, she specifically ragequit GG because the spergs found out about her history (thanks to ED) and began questioning her about her previous scams, at which point she lost her shit. You can go look at her thread to get an idea of how often she's used similar behavior, since she did it to the Farms specifically at one point. She's a career con artist.

Dunn got exiled from GG (and KIA specifically) for a fucking arsenal of reasons, including multiple attempts to private army KIA (which is something he has in common with a few other cows we cover), being caught harassing other people under the hashtag, and probably most legendary of all, going full holocaust denial on-stream with Jim. Much like Vox Day in general, no one wanted Dunn. Tragically, under the 'tism, Dunn actually does give a shit, but he's so out there that it's hard to countenance that.

Ralph's the odd duck out of the trio: He started doing decent coverage and when GG was first warming up, he got respect for being one of the first ones to cover it from anything other than an expressly hostile angle. His initial coverage was decent, and some of his shit, like showing up at Wu's conference only for her to lose her shit and demand he was removed by security, was hilarious. Unfortunately as time went on, he became just as inflammatory as shitty as who he was criticizing, and Ralph was, as ever, an angry sped, and got enraged at other GGers who weren't permanently stuck in attack mode like he was. Suffice to say, by the time GG was winding down in October of 2015, Ralph had more than worn out his welcome. He'd repeatedly nibbled at obvious bait, and by this point was having constant, shrieking sperg-outs, pitching into insane attacks against pretty much everyone critical of him, and basically became someone worth covering on this website. When LeoPirate did his expose on Pedo Nyberg, Ralph had a fucking meltdown in which he accused LeoPirate of stealing from him, demanded Leo debate him, and when Leo showed up, he spent the entrie stream screaming at him before kicking Leo out of the stream. This was only a precursor to the level of pants-obliterating insanity we were going to see from Ralph in the weeks to come, whose highlights included threatening to sue Bro Team Pill, attacking the family and friends of a suicide victim, and beginning a campaign to dox and threaten GG supporters in an effort to radicalize them in an effort to fight off the SJW menace in a plan that made sense only to him. He had gotten so crazy that KIA had removed him from allowable links in late 2015.

I don't doubt that other "big name" people in GG had their own selfish reasons for backing it. Like the old saying goes, the army you've got is rarely the one that you want, and when you've got a situation like GG, where there is an entire side of a discussion being essentially disallowed because of a full-court press intending to not let that side speak, you wind up in a situation where anyone who can get a voice out there and stay present can potentially shine. I've brought that up in the politics threads before. The difference between these three and many of the more recent GG meltdowns (Chungus, Mercedes) is that the recent ones happened long after GG ended and we're just seeing the aftermath on one of the spergiest subreddits to survive the conflict.

Past good behavior is not immunity to later failings.

The Fine Young Capitalists? Wonder what happened to them.

Their game jam ended. Their game's out. Cheap little budget title with some cute ideas.

As a result of all this, I legitimately cannot find any real long-term "win" for the pro-GG side in this. The status quo has resetted completely, and any changes in it are now for the worse (ex. how much did Zoe make last year vs 5 years ago?).

Your problem is that you're defining long term wins by short term objectives. It was never realistic that Gamergate would "defeat" Zoe Quinn because the existing power structure had her back. No matter what she did or how unpopular she became, she'd always be propped up by organizations wanting to use her as a political weapon.

If Gamergate has a lasting victory, it will be in how it changed the way people approach the media. Downvote campaigns, critic/user score comparisons, constant mocking of establishment figures--these are all things that took hold during Gamergate and have remained effective tools in dismantling the power imbalance between fans and the industry. Now more than ever, people are willing to point out that the emperor has no clothes; in essence, that the media can't be trusted. Of course, this isn't solely a result of Gamergate, but Gamergate was a big influence to a lot of people at the forefront of the current culture war.

That said, we have no idea what the cultural landscape will look like in 10 years. It is far too early to declare Gamergate a success or a failure based on a handful of early wins/losses.

I'll just leave out the hilarious stuff here. Basically from what I read, after KiA was raging about Reddit banning lolicon, KiA mods then unrelatedly decided to ask users about banning selfposts because they were targets of brigading and they usually involved spergy shit. Users vote no but mods vote yes, so they decided to ban selfposts and the subreddit is in a shitshow. Now, KiA has their own ResetERA called KotakuInAction2:

And the balkanization has begun.

And it's as sad and lame as I thought it would be.

This has to be one of the weirdest coincedences, cause I just posted in Kukuruyo's thread earlier without even knowing about all this. And the last response to Kukuruyo's thread was back in August of 2016. Boy, did that line up perfectly.
