It's nowhere near October, but one ensemble is already on track to be named the most controversial Halloween costume of 2015.

Social media users were out in full force on Monday criticizing several Halloween retailers for offering a Caitlyn Jenner costume reminiscent of the former-athlete's Vanity Fair cover earlier this year.

While Jenner's supporters condemned the costume as "transphobic" and "disgusting" on Twitter, Spirit Halloween, a retailer that carries the costume, defended the getup.

"At Spirit Halloween, we create a wide range of costumes that are often based upon celebrities, public figures, heroes and superheroes," said Lisa Barr, senior director of marking at Spirit Halloween. "We feel that Caitlyn Jenner is all of the above and that she should be celebrated. The Caitlyn Jenner costume reflects just that."

September 3, 2017.

You sat me on the edge of my bed and made sure to keep your distance as you explained to me I no longer had a place in your life. Tears streamed down my face as you told me that your family, now knowing my bipolar disorder diagnosis, did not approve. They thought we had broken up two weeks ago, and you had been hiding me. I always knew you were ashamed.

They had made sure to tell you to keep in touch with them, as they knew you were on your way to visit me for the last time. When you stopped answering their texts, they exploded my phone with calls, making sure you were safe. Didn’t you know that those who are bipolar are extremely unstable and dangerous? I was going to harm you and take away from your successes; in fact, I probably already had. They feared I would never be cured of bipolar. I thought I had told you so many times that I wasn’t looking for a cure; I was OK with the cards God had dealt me.

They thought I would never amount to anything and I would depend on you like a crutch. Are healthy minds more successful? I would certainly never be allowed to be a doctor because I was sick. They had told you I would not be a good enough partner, surely never a good enough wife. Those who are bipolar tend to be unfaithful as they engage in risky behaviors. The almost humorous thing about this statement now, is that you were the only unfaithful one in our relationship. I would certainly never be a good mom; how could I raise a child when I could not even take care of myself?

Each of these words might as well had been etched into my skin, God knows I felt the pain of every syllable coming from your mouth.

The news continued; you had found another girl; in fact, you found her before you even left me. It wasn’t cheating though; it was simply bound to happen with the way things had been going. I was too much to handle. It was time for you to be with her and to experience a healthy and happy love. She was everything you could ever ask for, and didn’t I just want you to be happy? She was strong and successful, and most importantly healthy. She was beautiful, and her body had not undergone the torture that a history of eating disorders and harsh medications produces. You explained to me that our entire relationship had quite possibly been a lie and that it was time to let go. I had imagined everything, as if the words that you had poured into my soul never existed. What about all the notes and poems you had left me? You explained you had needed me for a short time when you were weak, but you were strong now and you no longer needed my love. You made sure to tell me this was the last time I would ever hold your hands; it was her turn now. This was the only promise you ever kept.

On this day, you robbed me of the next year of my life. I would spend the next 12 months crying myself to sleep, and questioning if you were right. Would anybody ever love me or accept me for everything I am? Would I ever be a doctor? Would I ever be a good mom? Would I ever be a wife? Would I ever be anything? On numerous occasions, I contemplated ending everything. I would sit on the edge of my bed, where you had delivered all this news, and would carefully plan my method. I was very aware that if I could just go through with it, I would be gone, and the pain would leave with my being. I would no longer be haunted by your words on that September afternoon.

I could have easily let you win; in fact, I almost did. This would be too easy though; this would mean everything I had ever worked for would simply amount to the few sentences you had used to describe me. I chose to live, not for you but for myself. I would lie in bed and whisper all the things I knew myself to be, over and over. As my mom had whispered to me as a small child: “Megan, you are beautiful, smart, special and loved; you can be anything that you want to be.” Sometimes, I would say this statement for hours, just to take my mind away from the dark thoughts that lingered. There were nights I would not sleep, and there were days I would not wake up. I truly suffered, and not once did you check in to make sure I was doing OK. I was bipolar; I was not worthy of the perfect life you pretend to live. You truly did erase every trace of me. It was though we had never existed.

Things truly fell apart the moment they found out my diagnosis, and it was made very clear I wasn’t to be around anymore. It only takes one person to ruin a perfect family image. You were so ashamed that you had been hiding me for the last bit of our relationship. The stigma all of you showed toward me shaped me into the woman I am today. I advocate for those who have not yet found their voice, just like me on that warm September day, too scared to speak up and defend myself and my actions. I simply sat there and took every harsh phrase that rolled off your tongue. I have spent a year hiding and allowing you to say what you want about me. How many people have decided to leave my life because you have chosen to expose my deepest secrets? These were not your secrets to expose; it was never your place to tell people about my darkest moments.

I have taken power away from you by choosing to tell my story. There are no longer any secrets to be told. Today is the day I break the silence and I tell everyone the truth. I am not a monster, a misfit or whatever all of you consider me to be. I know I will be an amazing doctor, I will be an amazing partner and I will be an even better mom. I know this not only because so many people tell me, but because I now tell myself.

It has taken me a year to understand why we ever crossed paths. Why would anyone ever deserve to suffer the way you forced me to? Every lie you ever told me robbed me of so many things. The worst part is that only you and I know what went down when we were behind closed doors. I lost trust not only in people but in myself. Along with my faith in humanity, I lost my self-worth. I have been spending so long truly believing I will never recover from the hurt you made me feel. Stigma hurts more than anything I have ever experienced, let me tell you. This, however, has given me so much knowledge and wisdom. I am so strong, and I am using these situations to help others who similarly have been crushed by a form of hidden stigma.

I would like to thank you for tearing me down. I have met so many amazing souls with similar stories. I have found a new purpose in my life. I have survived my hardest and darkest year, and I have built myself back up.L

https://www.kwch.com/content/news/B...-for-bomb-threat-at-Home-Depot-505753401.html

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) A report of a bomb threat at a Wichita Home Depot store turned out to be more of a warning for other customers in the restroom.

Sedgwick County Communications released a 911 call in which the caller states that someone may have a bomb at the store.

"We just had a customer here made what may have been a bomb threat," said the caller. "He said, uh, somebody told me there's a bomb in here and you need to leave the building. He said it three times."

Police went out to the Home Depot at K-96 and Woodlawn to investigate.

Someone there told staff they overheard the threat in the store's restroom.

Police did some investigating and learned the "bomb threat" came from a man in a bathroom stall warning others about the severity of his need to use the restroom.

"You all need to get out of here because I'm fixin' to blow it up."

One witness said he laughed at the remark and took it as a joke.

Once police tracked the man down it became clear it was all a misunderstanding.

The Airbus A380 is dead; https://www.bbc.com/news/business-47231504

This might not seem like a big deal, but here is a quick gestalt

Originally the break even point was supposed to be 300 airframes but that ballooned to 450 or so due to delays. Production will come to a halt after about 300 airframes, far short of the break even point and airbus original estimate for 750+ aircraft.

The 747 is the aircraft the 380 was supposed to displace from the market. Production for the 380 will end in 2021, while Boeing will be making deliveries of the 747 until at least 2022 :story:

There was a whole bunch of market analysis done that told airbus there wasnt much of a market for this aircraft. They ignored that and went ahead with the program anyways because politicians and the leadership at airbus wanted the biggest passenger jet in the world as a flagship. Ooopsies!

I remember how godawful the design of the aircraft was. So many recalls.

Most of those aren't even blackface, which is a crude mockery of black facial features intended to mock the race. I'm not sure exactly how you'd impersonate Chris Rock without looking black.
Doesn't matter. It's Black History Month.

The guys of American Thinker desserve some guts to publish that article. https://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2019/02/the_homosexual_mafia_strikes_again.html

The Homosexual Mafia Strikes Again
By Avrohom Gordimer
New York City Councilman Ruben Diaz Sr. is in major trouble. In fact, he may be expelled from the NYC Council.

What exactly did Councilman Diaz do? Did he assault someone, commit larceny or voter fraud?

Not exactly. He said the following, which is in a sense being treated worse than the above crimes:

“The City Council is controlled by the homosexual community.”

Diaz also stated that openly-gay council speaker Corey Johnson is married to a man.

In response, Johnson demanded that Diaz apologize for his “homophobic” remarks, which “have no place in New York City.”

Even Diaz’ own son, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr., reprimanded his father for his grave sin, tweeting:

“NYC is a place where we celebrate our diversity and inclusivity. The LGBTQ community is unequivocally an essential voice in our City. @revrubendiaz’s sentiments are antagonistic, quarrelsome and wholly unnecessary. He should apologize.”

Thankfully, Diaz Sr. is sticking to his guns. Although he is otherwise a liberal Democrat, he is anti-abortion and anti-gay marriage -- something incredibly rare these days in the Democratic Party. Diaz Sr., unlike almost all other Democrats, has not drunk the Kool-Aid.

The New York Times reported further:

“The City Council is already exploring disciplinary action against him: The Committee on Standards and Ethics, at the behest of several Council members who have complained, will open an investigation. If Mr. Díaz is found guilty of “disorderly conduct,” which could include violating “policies against discrimination and harassment,” Mr. Díaz could be reprimanded, censured, fined or expelled from the City Council by a two-thirds vote of its members.

“The Council speaker, Corey Johnson, who is gay and H.I.V. positive, used his personal Twitter account to note that he shared the “anger and pain” of Mr. Díaz’s colleagues about “deeply offensive comments” about the gay community.

“We are currently reviewing all potential disciplinary scenarios,” Mr. Johnson said in a statement. “Nothing is off the table.”

“My personal viewpoint is that he should resign. It’s unacceptable. It’s Trumpian,..”

Speaker Johnson’s hysteria is misplaced. Rather than be upset at Diaz for a comment, maybe he should take a look at himself and the truth of Diaz’ words. To be precise:

212028_5_.png
Did Johnson ever consider that Diaz’ point might be correct, rather than mindlessly attacking it?

This scenario is symptomatic of something far deeper that is happening in America, in which the homosexual community attempts to muzzle and bully its opponents into submission -- or else. The sad truth is that Diaz Sr. and other Americans who hold to some notion of Biblical values are basically not permitted by the pro-gay lobby to express their opinion on these issues.

The “front page of the Internet” is the latest battle ground in the fight over control of global culture. Chinese tech giant Tencent recently invested $150m in Reddit. This investment sparked virtual protests and outrage across the social platform, with images of Tiananmen Square flooding Reddit’s front page. The threat of Chinese censorship was feeling all too real on a site that had historically embraced the extremes of free speech.

Reddit CEO Steve Huffman assured users that “Our governance didn’t change during this round, which means we didn’t add anyone to the board, and our policies won’t be changing either.”. That is likely true…for “this round”. The truth is, to really understand China’s influence over U.S. culture, Silicon Valley just needs to look south.

Hollywood is the original cultural capital, broadcasting American ideals and cultural norms to the rest of the world since the late 1930’s. Over the last decade, Chinese firms have been making substantial investments in Hollywood. As part of China’s influence strategy, these investments typically follow a three step process:

  1. Chinese investors provide a welcome source of financing for U.S. film studios. In an effort to appease their financiers, U.S. studios self-censor and ensure their films are less critical of China. According to the New York Times, “As recently as two decades ago, major Hollywood movies were sharply critical of China. “Seven Years in Tibet,” which depicts Chinese soldiers brutalizing Tibetans, was one of the top 100 grossing movies of 1997”. Once the Chinese investment rolled in to Hollywood, however, the criticism stopped.
  2. In order to release U.S. blockbuster films in China, studios are often asked to add Chinese movie stars and locations to their productions. This request is seemingly harmless, and even a logical business choice. Plus, it’s the law in China.
  3. Chinese censors will review US scripts for unsanctioned material and request rewrites (or reshoots) if they don’t find the material acceptable. After a few rounds of this process, most producers, writers and directors knowingly exclude “forbidden” concepts without even being asked. The 2010 remake of Red Dawn, for example, created an uproar from Chinese state-run news after a script leak revealed that China was to be depicted as the enemy.
article-2237717-162F7D94000005DC-257_634x415.jpg

The North Korean flags in Red Dawn were all added in post production.
Eventually, the studio digitally removed all references to the Chinese army in the film, and replaced them with the North Korean army. According to the The Global Times, a state-run Chinese newspaper, ”Without a single word from Chinese authorities, the U.S. studio spent another $1 million to re-edit its film. One cannot help but marvel about the rising power of China, even though it is sheer market power this time.” One cannot help but marvel at the state-run communication brinkmanship either.

For China, these Hollywood investments aren’t specifically about censoring. Censorship is a feature of the larger strategy: to spread the story of China (China’s version, of course) and make it an important part of the global culture. The New York Times reported that “President Xi Jinping has repeatedly emphasized the need to ‘tell China’s story well’ — to make sure a coherent, compelling and, most important, Communist Party-sanctioned narrative of China’s rise to power reaches global audiences.”

Want a jet in your film? Just ask!
To be clear, the United States has utilized a similar strategy for decades. If you want an F-22 fighter jet to appear in your blockbuster film, the U.S. Military reviews the script and makes changes, if necessary. Look no further than the global box office for the past four decades to see how those U.S. government-sanctioned stories spread globally, and at an unprecedented scale.

Media and entertainment are the primary non-violent means to uphold and instill American values locally, and spread them globally. America is an expert at telling the story of capitalist democracy — and it’s big business too. The global Media & Entertainment (M&E) market reached $1.9 trillion in revenue in 2016. China is the second largest consumer of U.S. M&E, spending $190b in 2016, right behind the United States.

Furthering Xi’s goal to tell China’s story, Chinese tech companies (with Tencent leading the pack) have made significant investments in major U.S. entertainment technology platforms, including:

  • Riot Games, makers of League of Legends (100% owned by Tencent)
  • Supercell (100% owned by Tencent)
  • TikTok (100% owned by ByteDance via its Music.ly acquisition)
  • Epic Games, makers of Fortnite (40% owned by Tencent)
  • Snap (17% owned by Tencent)
  • Spotify (7.5% owned by Tencent)
  • Reddit (5% owned by Tencent)
These investments are the first step in China’s playbook to spread its cultural influence. Between League of Legends, Fortnite, Spotify and Reddit, Tencent has significant influence over American youth (Gen Z in particular). These entertainment properties represent over half a billion monthly active users, and millions of minutes watched on YouTube and Twitch, in the case of Riot and Epic.

In September 2018, the General Administration of Press and Publications (GAPP), a Chinese censorship office that vets new games for inappropriate content, stopped approving all new games. Their stated goal was to identify ways to limit the time kids spent playing games, citing a concern about eyesight problems. Because of this ban, Fortnite isn’t yet allowed in China.

While the proclaimed eyesight concerns are dubious, Chinese officials clearly have a different perspective on video games than most U.S. citizens and politicians. When there is a difference in values, the second step in China’s strategy begins. This is already in play with Google, Microsoft and Apple, who have made major concessions in order for their products to be available on the Chinese market. Alphabet, for instance, has been working on a censored version of Google search for China. This Google project has been highly criticized, because Americans see this action as going directly against American culture and values.

Culture is a slippery concept in our paradoxical world, where a handful of mega corporations control our entertainment diet. However, pervasive individualism is a defining feature of the Millennial generation. American culture is just as much NASCAR as it is Marie Kondo or Fortnite, with little overlap. But culture is also a set of shared values, however nebulous. Beneath these values is a commonality that stems from living in a liberal democracy. The liberal democratic order is what likely allows for easy cultural exchanges between countries like Japan and the European Union. With China, that commonality just isn’t there.

There’s no doubt that entertainment has the power to change society. People like to think of societal changes as slow, organic movements, instead of calculated influence campaigns. They want to experience other cultures, while basking in the safety of our familiar American ideals and norms. Do we have a right to be subsumed by the culture of our choice, or does culture just sweep through society, unable to be controlled? Ultimately, if America is no longer the top exporter of culture, what becomes of our identity?

I think the most ironic thing about all of this is the coming collapse of Hollywood and the video game industry. China's going to have to start making its own stuff if it wants its target demographic to buy into any of its investments, especially due to the increasingly visible disconnect and groupthink coming out of Hollywood and these videogame companies.

Son sets mother’s house on fire after argument over box of Cheez-Its
https://www.cbs46.com/news/son-sets...cle_c904d9be-2ead-11e9-852a-8b2afb7c6cbd.html
Atlanta, GA (CBS46) A man had to rescue his mother from the second floor during a fire at a DeKalb County home that allegedly began over a box of Cheez-Its.

The incident happened at the home on Creekford Drive in Lithonia.

Officials tell CBS46 News that two brothers and their 61 year-old mother were at the home when an argument began over a box of Cheez-It snack crackers.

That's when one of the brothers, who police say was intoxicated, locked his brother and mother inside the home and began pouring gasoline on the front steps.

He then lit the home on fire, trapping the two inside. The brother was able to lift his mother down from the second story window and then get himself out safely.

The man who started the fire, 32 year-old Jeremy Lamar Wyatt, was taken into custody. He is charged with arson and criminal damage to property.

TBH I don't blame the guy, those things are delicious.
