He's not even an anime translator. Most of his resume is translation of manga titles which were published in the 70s (a fair bit of Matsumoto it looks like). He has no control of the underlying intellectual property. Translators can distort to some degree, but they don't really gatekeep. You need a much higher powerlevel than him in order to block something coming into the US.

One of the few Holywood actors whose done exceptionally well in both LA and anime is Bryan Cranston (under a non-union pseudonym), and he doesn't do anime anymore. I imagine when you're the lead of Breaking Bad, you're not gonna go running to Funimation for the peanuts they pay.

No argument there. I would just caution against an assertion of Hollywood always doing it better. I think Disney makes it work because, after almost a century of animation, they have ADR and voice direction down to a science.

Good point, but I was thinking more of Western animation VAs than Hollywood actors, at least Hollywood actors with no animation experience at all. For instance, Mark Hamill is a ridiculously prolific VA.

ADV sold its assets to Section23, and then Section23 formed Sentai Filmworks, which... basically has the same fucking people in charge of it as ADV (namely Matt Greenfield and John Ledford). It's a corporate shell game wrought by them having to restructure debt in the wake of them paying more for anime licenses than they could reasonably hope to make back in domestic sales (ADV tanked when physical media was still king).

That last part is also probably why the dub industry pays shit and doesn't attract much new talent. It's not so much they're greedy fucks, but the fact that the margins just aren't there. Actors have to make up in volume of paychecks what they can't through the size of paychecks.

As for Sentai benefiting from this. I dunno. Again, these VAs aren't really permanently employed with anybody. They're basically free-agents. Folks like Monica Rial have worked for Sentai (and ADV before them). If the VAs are the cancer, then they'll just spread the cancer to Sentai.

If the backlash is specifically against Funimation, Sentai might benefit somewhat. Personally, I'd like to see Sentai do better, if only because the thought of Sony (parent of Funimation) having this much power in anime kinda creeps me out. Also, Greenfield and Ledford used to be fansubbers, and are basically the last of the "old guard" with any real pull (Amimeigo, while still extent, is too damn small to do much of anything).

The first issue with this is that there isn't too many voices within the (western) industry that would sympathetic to the cause. The second issue is that there is a massive release valve of largely uncensored communities for people to migrate to and fansubs people can fall back on. When a game is ruined, its ruined and all the sjw garbage is hard to ignore if you follow the rituals of keeping up with gaming news, random drama that ruins lives and events like E3. You can ignore a shitty dub or retarded community.

Sjws have a power grip over the gaming industry. They don't boss around the corporate overlords but their morality is law. People don't give the sjws enough credit, they're well organized and its a shame they don't give a shit about economic equality... or actual racial equality...

Anime fans should be extremely concerned about the rise of Sjws in the international anime distribution business. The retarded old people at those anime corporations may think those sjws represent the bulk of the international anime fanbase and may start appealing to them. Sony is basically scorching the earth of its domestic market to focus on the west with its gaming division.
