He seems like an asshole.

Troy Baker is also kind of a dick for shitting on the original Silent Hill VA's (interestingly one of them, Donna Burke, is an amazing singer who has contributed songs to things like God Eater and Metal Gear Solid) tho I recently discovered James Sutherland who played the original guy in SH1 turned out to be a right wing conspiracy theorist anti vax nutjob so....yeah nagl. I think I'm just burnt out hearing him, Laura Bailey, etc in EVERYTHING.

Sean being a dick? Ah.

Sean Chiplock, the douche from Zelda? He is a creepy pedo furry.

i remember when the Silent Hill HD Collection was being marketed, they replaced the soundtrack and all the voices, and all the new voice actors like troy baker and mary elizabeth mcglynn dogpiled on guy cihi (james sunderland) because he asked Konami for residual payments for his performance (voice and mocap) and for the whole original cast as well. they blamed him for the game release being bungled and called him entitled for wanting to be paid for his work.

konami fucked up the game anyway, they used old beta builds of the games because they didn't have the data stored in their records, so bugs that the original developers had already resolved were present in the final release, even though the developers for their other HD collections like bluepoint could reverse engineer retail discs of the games without issue.

That's literally not what I'm saying one way or the other. The one he was banned from was years ago and was because he was acting like a fucking manbaby and was not worth the trouble. The one he has the different handlers for is because he's a goddamned idiot pain in the ass.

He's just that, an entitled pain in the ass, I don't and never claimed, that I know jack crap about the allegations otherwise.

Don't worry. I only brought up my experiences because I've seen con staff be fucks to guests too.

Then again, I've also seen the opposite.

I don't think it really matters here. I'm not prepared to defend Vic or con staff because this really doesn't have much to do with the accusations against him. I don't think con staffers conspired to get him shit canned from Funi or RT. If they actually had the power to do that, he would have likely been gone a long time ago.

As something of an aside, Amanda Winn Lee got banned from quite a few conventions when she was still active. I'm like 90% sure Anime Central (Chicago) was one of them. In her case, it was usually (if not always) "drunk and disorderly conduct." They kept her on at ADV despite all that. The fact she's now a pot crusader isn't particularly surprising for anyone who knew her in the 90s and 2000s.

Guy Cihi, yes sorry. Tad hypocritical of Troy considering he bitched and moaned during the voice actor strike a few years ago. (Still doesn't excuse that Cihi is psycho)

Speaking of Mary Elizabeth McGlynn.....her divorcing Daran Norris and then instantly shacking with Steve Blum (also a divorcee) strikes me as a little.....suspicious. odd.

In regards to Sean as Goku....this is going to sound unusual but I prefer Kirby Morrow. All day every day. He is bae.
Also I don't detect any kind of arrogance from him unlike Sean. Kirby's always been a favorite of mine in many roles. I know its probably unpopular to say that I prefer his version of Goku.

Oh and about cons. I remember back in the day, Crispin Freeman's IMDB page was just loaded with posts from people who encountered him at different cons and events. Apparently he was infamously known to be a major douchebag. To the point where he himself would respond on the forums. I never met him but I always imagined he is a nice guy. Who knows? Was he ever banned from a convention?

I dunno if he was banned from a convention, but I recall the rumors that he's a bit of a douche and thinks very highly of himself. He also apparently charges appearance fees.

He's also in the same league as Mignogna and Willingham in that he has a HUGE female following. Like, insane. In Crispin's case, it started with his debut role as Touga in Utena, and continued on as Alucard in Hellsing.

This phenomenon, along with the behavior of certain cosplayers, convinced me that the girls have a capacity to be more insane than the boys when it comes to being weebs.

Willingham is really the only one I got to know semi-personally by spending quite a bit of time with when I staffed cons. He's a genuinely cool dude. Very personable. Not the slightest bit demanding.

AWL posted something funny on her Twitter today that may shed light on what Hollywood thinks of these people and their egos.

Looking at Amanda’s Twitter bio I don’t think it was drunken behaviour so much she was high as hell

Allegations of his creepiness have existed LONG before #metoo and I heard of them in con circles nearly 10 years ago. There's literally pictures of him kissing underage fans (who at the time, being young girls with weeb crushes obv consented.) I think a lot of the exaggerated stories come from girls regretting liking him and, wanting their own MeToo, will spin it to be nonconcensual (though I wouldn't doubt he did kiss/touch girls without permission since he's demonstrably into them). Regardless it's still fucked up and creepy (imagine the stuff he actually bothers to be on the DL about) and I think you guys are really fatigued from MeToo and bandwagoners falsely accusing famous men for attention and money or whatever that you forget sexual harassment/assault, especially at one time events where it doesn't occur regularly and where harassment is normal, is extremely hard to prove.

I seriously doubt Monica's story, were like a year into the movement why would she wait so long, only when everyone else is talking about him? She's a big figure in the VA biz she should've been the one to rekindle this conversation instead of hopping on the train.

Care to provide those images?

At this point, I think we have enough material for an anime voice actors thread, since a lot of this thread is starting to focus on them. And for good reason too, it is interesting to look at the kind of people who work in this industry and alongside Vic. A lot of them are hilariously cowish even before this shitstorm started.

I follow him on Twitter because he's one of the few VAs that doesn't sperg about politics 24/7 and I like his work. While he doesn't post much, when he does it's usually him interacting with fans and he's always really nice to them.

He could be totally different irl though, so take this with a grain of salt.

Edit to avoid doubleposting: About other Goku VAs- the Mexican VA for Goku is an absolute sweetheart. There was a little boy who was in the hospital with what I think was cancer, and he was the absolute biggest fan of DB. His Mexican VA called him and talked to him in Goku's voice for a really long time and told him that everyone in the show knew he was strong enough to pull through. It was super sweet.

I think you can make a damn good argument abridged parodies would fall under Fair Use. It's maybe not a slam dunk, but it does clearly touch on the parody prong of the FU standard.

Schemmel should have just said he's scared of personally pissing of Toei, and leave it at that.

It wasn't just his "feelings" on Team4Star ... It was the also the way he answered that one fan's question. You know, the fan that spent time and money to see this douchebag talk?

"Do you have another question?" God. What a dick.

Though, I will say that I laughed when he was like "I'm not a lawyer, but I've read a lot about law, so that basically makes me an expert." Woah, nelly! We got a badass over here!

I like that one moment where he has to clarify that he wasn't lecturing the fan who asked. You can't see the guy's face, but I can only imagine the fear in his eyes when he realized that his question touched a nerve for Schemmel.

This is why I've never gone to a convention before, and why I have no desire to meet anyone famous (even mildly famous, like a lot of these VAs). I just know that if I had a personally bad experience meeting someone who created something I love, I would never be able to separate that experience from the thing I enjoy.

Never meet your heroes, kids.

For the other, he got his ass banned from the con because he was overstepping and basically abusing volunteers and being a right cunt about everything. Like throwing tantrums over shit he didn't get because it wasn't in the goddamned contract. More or less he's an entitled manbaby that thinks he's hot shit when he's absolutely not.
Vic's shitty behavior and celebrity syndrome shenanigans are something that definitely deserve more attention, regardless of what one thinks about the sexual harassment allegations. I know somebody in Texas whose ex used to do work for FUNimation and encountered Vic a few times... Supposedly, the guy is such a big diva that he once threw a tantrum because his M&Ms were the wrong color :story:
