'Empire' star Jussie Smollett attacked in possible hate crime

“Empire" actor Jussie Smollett was attacked in the early morning hours on Tuesday in what Chicago police are calling a possible hate crime.

Smollett was attacked by two people "yelling out racial and homophobic slurs" and "poured an unknown chemical substance on the victim," police said.

According to police, one of Smollett's alleged attackers also put a rope around his neck. Both fled the scene.

Smollett took himself to Northwestern Hospital and "is in good condition," police told CNN.

Later Tuesday, CNN's Don Lemon spoke to Smollett and a mutual friend who was at the hospital with the actor. Smollett confirmed the incident took place.

He was shaken and angry that an attack like this could happen. Smollett told CNN he fought back at the attackers.

"Given the severity of the allegations, we are taking this investigation very seriously and treating it as a possible hate crime," the police statement said.

Smollett has starred on Fox's "Empire" since 2015. He plays Jamal, a successful singer in the musical Lyon family. Like his character, Smollett identifies as gay.

"We are deeply saddened and outraged to learn that a member of our 'Empire' family, Jussie Smollett, was viciously attacked last night," a representative of 20th Century Fox Television and Fox Entertainment said in a statement to CNN. "We send our love to Jussie, who is resilient and strong, and we will work with law enforcement to bring these perpetrators to justice. The entire studio, network and production stands united in the face of any despicable act of violence and hate -- and especially against one of our own."

A representative for GLAAD told CNN the organization has reached out Smollett to offer assistance and support.

"Jussie is a true champion for LGBTQ people and is beloved by the community and allies around the world," a GLAAD spokesperson said in a statement.

The Nigerians are cooperating. If they say he gave us X amount of money on Y day, investigators will be able to tie it to some transaction or bank activity on Jussie’s part. And show the payments occur around certain periods of contact and movement. Jussie would not appear to be a world class Super Villain. It’s unlikely he maintained some pool of dark off the grid money to draw from in case he wanted to pay two morons to beat himself up.

That absolutely is the main point of the MAGA hate stuff: to instill fear and shame in people. They want you to be sacred to show your support for the legitimately elected president of your country; they want you to be ashamed to support Trump and the causes the champions. They have made it clear that if you don't hate what they tell you to hate that you become the hated. It's like some deranged high school clique. You want to be one of the cool kids? Go punch that MAGA! Oh, you don't want to be a violent lunatic? Then yo ass gon' get punched, too!

And it has worked! People have been getting attacked, stalked, terrorized, demonized for supporting Trump for 3 years now. It's torn communities apart, it's torn families apart, and it's torn the US apart. All because Hillary Clinton and her psycho cronies were butthurt that they lost.

The bulk of the mainstream media who align with her have created a terrifying and divisive atmosphere the likes that this country has never before seen. One side is completely out of their minds, brainwashed and gaslit, inflicted with Trump Derangement Syndrome; the other is rightfully scared by the violent, unhinged people created by the media, and desperately trying to keep some sense of sanity in their communities.

That any news outlet can run a story claiming wearing a MAGA hat can be equated with wearing a KKK hood is beyond reprehensible. The biggest enemy of the people truly is the media. They have to be checked somehow.

Jocqui Smollett must be almost as dumb as his brother. A video of the attack would only confirm it was the two brothers that Jussie paid to fake attack him. It’s too bad the three stooges managed to even fuck up a camera capturing their drama. All the effort to stage an attack and they didn’t even get a viral video out of it.

If Jussie’s siblings are publicly supporting him then they are as dumb and ammoral as Jussie. The siblings were raised with him and would know very well he’s a hysterical, drama creating lying sack of shit.

People don’t just do shit like this out of the blue. Jussie has been telling fibs and stirring up drama to gain attention or sympathy since he was a teen. It’s worked and gotten him what he wanted so he keeps going and getting more brazen because there’s never been any negative consequences or at least none bad enough to make him change tactics. A grown ass man doesn’t do something like this without a years of dishonest behavior in the past.

Jussie’s story should have absolutely been met with more sceptism from day one because it made no sense on so many different levels. Even liberal media people in the national media would have doubted the story privately if they had half a brain but the story fit a juicy outrage narrative and the idea of never questioning someone who claims to be a victim kept them quiet.

Real journalists know that people lie and they lie often. It’s why documentation and fact checking used to be the foundation of journalism. Reporting anyone’s claims at face value, without hesitation or fact checking, is a disaster waiting to happen. It can make some stories very difficult to report on but they should be difficult. Human interactions tend to be complex.

In Jussie’s case there were so many obvious reasons to doubt his absurd story. Any decent journalist, just like the cops, would have smelled serious BS from this story from the start. “Listen and Believe” is good advice for friends and family members. It’s even fine for the cops who need to take all reports seriously at first, and then investigate the merits. But listen and believe is contrary to standards of journalism, or at least when it comes to publishing. Journalists need a lot more than “listen and believe” before taking anything to print.

This is why Jussie’s new lawyers went out of their way to mention one of the brothers was Jussie’s “personal trainer preparing him for a new video” because they know there is evidence Jussie recently paid them $3500.

But don’t worry these three have been so comically inept and stupid the cops have an air tight case in about 20 different ways, besides the brothers cooperating and admitting they were paid to fake the attack there is physical evidence out the ying yang.

Alright, I guess it's time for a wrap up, this is pretty damn obvious which way it's going. Some observations:

1. Believing it happened at face value... eh... it's a bit lazy, but understandable
2. Believing it happened after learning all the details... How could you believe that story? No journalist should have acted like this was credible.
3. It started a dialogue! It needs to start a dialogue, about the actual prejudice plainly going on. People will believe ANY horrible thing as long as its attributed to a person in a Make America Great Again hat. The media are still saying "Maga supporter" as if they're talking about someone in a KKK getup.
4. Liberals are mad. Mad that people didn't believe the obvious fake story, mad that people are having so much fun now that it's fake.
5. People generally seem to be under the impression that racist hate crimes by white people are something that happen in a statistically significant amount. Yet I can remember no such story (The outright murders are quite different from these types of hoaxes, and again, still don't happen in a statistically significant amount).

It was so insanely unbelievable, that's the real disappointment. It would have been so much better if there had been something for people to latch onto so they could stretch out the "Only a racist wouldn't believe this happened" stage a bit longer, maybe more assholes would have embarrassed themselves. I mean jeez, even Al Sharpton is coming away from this without looking bad....

Jussie has admitted he’s friends with the two brothers and one is his personal trainer. Jussie refused to press charges on them. There’s no way innocently explain these facts away.

But given how sloppy they have all been I have zero doubt there are plenty of texts between them laying the whole plan out.

If Jussie’s plan was to try and throw them under the bus and claim he was an innocent victim of an attack by them he missed it when he refused to press charges. He didn’t press charges only because he knew these guys have a ton of evidence that can prove he planned and plotted the attack with them. If he had thought it was at all possible to blame them for everything, he would have done it.

Jussie is fucked. The one thing he could have tried to save face was that his friends attacked him for some strange reason and he didn’t recognize them. But he was too scared to even try that because of the evidence they have to prove he’s lying.

I’m sure his lawyers are pulling their hair out trying to come up with a defense strategy besides making him shut the fuck up. The cops slowly let Jussie ruin or refute every viable defense for the “attack.”

I also think Jussie’s former lawyer dropped him after he did that GMA interview. Jussie was already fucked but that interview made any chance at a usable defense evaporate.

I'm sure you are probably right and there are text messages but not pressing charges isn't proof of anything. He can say they were his friends and he didn't want to hurt them. Also saying the men on video are the ones that attacked him isn't proof of anything. He can say they attacked him and were planning to rob him and yelled MAGA country to try to throw everyone off. Unless there are some texts or something else there doesn't seem to be much evidence Jussie orchestrated this. I'm not saying I believe he didn't but so far it seems the only evidence is the claims of the nigerians and any defense attorney could say they aren't credible because they are making up a story to save their skins. Based on what is released it seems the evidence is their word v Jussie and that is not enough to convict BARD, particularly with the Jew Attorney and 80 IQ jury.

Yeah, that’s where the teeth lie. The local charges of filing a fake police report are just a misdemeanor. The brothers arrived before Smollett and were seen sitting on a bench, passing time. According to the sources, the brothers appeared nervous on the ride share video. A passing car gave the brothers pause about going though with the plan, sources said.

A short time later, Smollett appeared.

Sources also say the brothers considered backing out of the plan.

Police are investigating a tip that a witness claims to have seen the three men in Smollett’s apartment elevator the night of reported incident. Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi confirmed Tuesday that the trio were also seen in an elevator of Smollett’s apartment.

Both the racist liar Jussie Smollett and one of the producers of Empire, Dennis Hammer, wore gloves when handling the letter. Maybe the usage of gloves was intended a measure to prevent their fingerprints from dirtying the letter, suggested by the producer? That could be a reasonable explanation.
