Bigot Brigade Something Awful and Friends - The roller-coaster train-wreck embarrassing downfall of a Web 1.0 giant and its tick offspring like from Cloverfield

I would blame GAPO or Dog-O, all I did was install SMF, copy the old database and files over, and make sure it all works. I don't even know how to block archiving to know how to unblock archiving, tbh.

Probably has a robots.txt like file that prevents the archiving sites from resolving a request. Might need to look up the SMF docs or check the files you copied, but removing it should fix the problem.

Looks like a while back in 2014, a goon and a troon did a paper on the SA forums (which they call SAF for some reason) for college. About how it's so successful even though you'd think it wouldn't be.
Here's a preview that's gotten a whole 1000 views in 5 years.

Article
I think you can grab the full paper at that link.

EDIT: Aw shit, no way am I paying $15 to read a dead gay article about a dead gay forum (that only costs you $10).

Fuckin goooooooooons.

I feel like we got to see someone accidentally provide a perfect summary of the socjus push over in Koala's March's personal fiefdom. After a few poor bastards wandered in to get probated for asking why a mod is allowed to say that all white people are demons, etc., someone told their conversion story.

You either get fed up with their bullshit and leave, or you submit yourself to them completely and become a faithful little parrot for the opinion of your superiors.

Anyone who thought Something Awful was in any way successful in 2014 has got to be one dumb bunny.

Even in 2014, SA's success is remarkable. You have to remember, SA is a pay to post forum that:
1) doesn't offer anything that free forums don't already offer (ie no porn, torrents, exclusive coupons, expert advice, etc.)
2) exists in a marketplace where free forums are not only plentiful, but wildly more successful and popular (reddit, etc)
3) exists in a marketplace dominated by social media giants like twitter and facebook
4) routinely bans and probates posters for arbitrary and capricious reasons
5) conveys no benefits to membership except the ability to read and post on the forums
6) is openly hostile towards anybody who doesn't conform to the popular consensus
7) is overwhelmingly populated by uneducated losers with mental disorders

The fact that they could scam thousands of people to spend $10 to sign up and buy shit like avatars as late as 2014 is nothing short of a miracle, and warrants study.

That said, its 2019 and SA's miracle grift pales in comparison to the shamelessness of Twitch streamers who extract thousands from their viewers in superchats, paid subscriptions and other scams.*

*For example, I recently saw that popular streamer asmongold was charging viewers $2 per second to watch and react to clips they submitted from youtube.

Whenever millenials complain about not having enough money for food and debts I'm always reminded of the sheer amount of kickstarter, twitch, and patreon manchildren that exist

Life is about managing expectations and goons all their lives were convinced they were special. However life is a cold hard slap across the face: not everyone is destined to be rich, powerful, beautiful, etc. Goons and many millennials seem poorly equipped to deal with that reality, which is why so many of them turn to communism but think nothing of owning the latest tech.

The sad part is that they will never get it. The upper end of the millennial cohort is almost 40 now and here they are peddling the same excuses they did a decade ago. If they don’t get it by now, they never will.
