This isn't exclusively about reddit troons but I was surprised by how many people seem to think Silence of the Lambs is transphobic - it even says in the dialogue that trannies are not typically violent murderers, and Hannibal agreed, and stated/theorized that Buffalo Bill had other issues and being a tranny wasn't among them. But when I looked for Hannibal trilogy discussions (I marathoned the movies on friday) I was surprised that so many people thought he was a negative portrayal of a troon...

Reason number fifty gadjillion why troons and TERFs have irreconcilable differences. Troons are obsessed with women's clothes and women's behaviors and everything women should do and TERFs just want to be treated like humans who have a broad variety of styles, behaviors, and interests. Conservative: Biological sex is immutable, and gender = sex.

This is interesting. Obviously you don't speak for all TERFs and correct me if I'm misunderstanding, but do TERFs tend to think that sex is not predictive of behaviors and interests? Is gender a totally blank slate divorced from sex that is solely determined by society/experience, or is it on a spectrum (say, 50% biology and 50% society?)

There's a lot of infighting on that and I don't think there's a uniform consensus, although there are very strong opinions. I'm of the opinion that a lot of male and female behaviors are informed by the way we are treated differently from birth; however, I also think the idea that there aren't any sexed differences in behavior is really stupid. Humans are sexually dimorphic and there are discrete patterns that come with that. However, gender is based on sex-based stereotypes and is historically used by men to control female fertility, aspirations, and financial freedom. Baby girls don't come out wearing high heels and curling their hair; baby boys aren't born dribbling basketballs and accusing less virile men of being beta cucks. There are differences for sure, but we exacerbate them with gender stereotypes, to the detriment of men and women who aren't happy in the pre-defined mold that society expects them to conform to.

Does anyone else miss acting like their at birth gender?

Don't get me wrong, i love who I am now as a trans woman. I've never been happier with myself and I'm finally off antidepressants. What i miss though is back when I was acting like a cis guy, i had cis guy friends.
These cis guy friends are the types of blokey blokes who didn't accept the whole trans thing so fuck them. But what i miss is the guy talk, the talking shit, the banter, the doing dumb shit and encouraging each other to do it. Now as a trans woman, i find that having this guy talk with women isn't really possible and as i pass more, its not possible with men as they see me as a woman. I love how they see me, and it helps that im pretty butch but even then i hate that the closest ill ever get to having that back is as a butch lesbian. As much as i love it, there are still the subtle differences in how I'm treated and i miss the talk/banter so much i can't stop reminiscing.
I haven't changed as a person, but to the world its enough of a difference and now it's like im missing a part of myself I'll never get back and i dont know what to do

I talk shit all the time at work and nobody thinks any less of/less womanly of me for it. My language choices are probably far coarser than most of the guys there. Still get hit on and stuff (I don't like to claim it, but I guess I'm considered cute/hot?), still chit-chat with the girls I know. I'm not butch or masculine-presenting at all, either.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, it's because troons transition out of a desire to make life "easier" for themselves because they have an extremely warped, deluded sense of what being a woman is like. In their minds, every woman in the world wakes up smelling great (seriously, they're weirdly obsessed with "girl smell") with perfect hair and an hour of makeup done. When troons realize that they have to work twice as hard and spend three times as much money to look presentable as a woman than they did as men, if not more, they throw their hands up and say "well a cis girl wouldn't have to put this much effort into her look, so neither should I, the hormones will sort this all out eventually."
