As I've said in the original Vic thread, good English VA'd animes are harder to come by these days, especially ones as good as the masterpieces of old. And as has also already been explained, if the identity politics bullshit continues to infest and spread through the official anime dubbing industries here in America, that will change literally nothing beyond some diehard fans of official licensed dubs, because weebass folk will just get their anime elsewhere, and many, myself included, do that anyway for one reason or another. You can rate me optimistic on this, but personally I think that if that does happen, in the longrun it will hurt companies like Funimation. Not now, not soon even, but eventually if shit goes downhill and DOESN'T get better? People will gradually leave them behind more and more the longer it goes on. Eventually, one day, they'll be seen as not profitable enough to keep afloat.
That said, I can't really excuse what this does to Vic. Yeah I've never heard of him until this, and yeah I don't really care about someone I don't even know that much about, but you can't just ruin a man's life and career because you just personally didn't like him(which most of the Funimation people involved seem to have as their angle)and then peck at the corpse of his career like crows taking his positions and roles for yourselves. That shit's just not right.
And I'm of the mind that no, he'll never see his reputation restored to what it was before all this, and that's pretty shitty. And all because of a legitimate conspiracy that can be easily proven 100% irrefutably with a few dozen presented preserved tweets/posts, some videos, and some sound bites/video snippets, to blacklist him from VA work and from appearing at conventions.
But what gets me almost as much is how they can't just stop fucking it all up. Not 100% proven but very likely, the CEO or whatever you'd call him of an entire convention becomes an e-warrior on the official Twitter and emails of said convention, goes as far as to threaten anyone even asking questions with arrests, and fakes a bomb threat in a government owned building.
Pictures, preserved tweets, factual evidence showing people continuing to interact and be in very close physical contact with Vic at cons and looking very happy or undeterred by it after the dates on which they claim the "bad things" took place. Even one woman who had to come out and defend Vic because a picture of her and Vic from a con was being used by SOMEONE ELSE spreading lies about that meeting, claiming this girl was uncomfortable for her.
We have people just spreading their cheeks and shitting out their biased personal disdain for Vic all over Twitter and wherever else who all happen to be either employed at Funimation or related in some way to people employed at Funimation, whether directly or by mere degrees of separation. We have people like Monica Rial who make claims then call people requesting evidence or detailed information harassers who will be reported to the FBI(pffft).
We have armchair lawyers coming out and arguing that Vic has no case, that this will hurt Vic more than anyone else if he does go to court, all trying their best to slap any notion, belief, or idea that Vic can accomplish any form of comeback the fuck down and try to enforce people to give up supporting him or even Vic himself from going through with it. They're literally just being bullies at this point. Meanwhile others are faking politeness and sincerity after trashing this man to the moon and back to try and get it stopped because they don't want to reap the consequences for being piece of shit human beings.
I mean, you can read over the last dozen or so pages, or go find the stream if you haven't seen it yet(please dear lord if you haven't seen it, go watch it). Last night we had a fatfuck with a Gnome Brand stove, a shitty looking unkept house, and a chair that is just begging to be put out of its misery try to outsmart Wreck It Rekieta with fucking Google searches, wikipedia articles, and Discord help, answering questions with more questions, literally just going "You have no clue what you're talking about", "You don't know law apparently", "I know more than you do", "You're just peddling conspiracy theories" constantly for the entire stream, refusing to listen to most of what Nick says, even outright stating he wasn't paying attention at one point, claiming he has the authority to get Vic back into cons if he admits to the crimes and pulls the "I'm trying to help him" card, and then getting blown the fuck out during the superchat readings at the mere mention of "soy", "cuck", "beta", and "faggot" and bailing because he can't handle mean words after insisting for part of the stream that even the chat was on his side.
I don't know how this all works or ever claim or pretend to, and I know to hope too strongly is a bad thing, but I personally believe something besides the usual entertainment will come out of this. Especially with preserved evidence being able to prove that enough bias and malice was attributed towards anti-Christian views and a disdain towards Vic Mignogna's religion.
That alone will open up a whole can of worms the more attention this gets, and I believe Sony would step in and bust some heads at Funimation over accusations of anti-Christian views, not because they're scared of them, but because they don't want the fucking headache. I feel under such circumstances, or similar ones, they're more likely to just go "Okay, we'll take care of the people involved in this so this shit stops here and now", or at least I believe they will if they have some basic business sense.
Not just that either. That's just part of it. Hell that could end up being JUST part of the whole lawsuit, one of several things argued against by Vic in regards to malicious intent alone. Right now we're just listening to Nick Rekieta and enjoying it. Just wait until Vic and his actual legal counsel steps out of the shadows and speaks up.
