Rackets has updated the GoFundMe and announced who the legal beneficiary is (i.e.: Vic's lawyer, whose identity had not been released publicly until now).

You may have noticed a change to the Beneficiary on the page and I want to update everyone on what this is and what this means:

We have linked up the GoFundMe account to the Law Firm's IOLTA account. An IOLTA is a trust required by Texas law (and laws of several other states) and the acronym stands for: Interest on Lawyers Trust Accounts (IOLTA).

These accounts are designed to hold money temporarily on behalf of clients and are accounted for separately from the law firm's funds. Any interest earned by these accounts actually gets forwarded to the state to fund legal aid programs.

The beneficiary shift indicates the Senior Partner of the law firm, Ty Beard, who is the named party on the IOLTA trust account. The firm is Beard Harris Bullock Hughes.

With this transition, the money will be moved into the IOLTA account, and billing will be done against this amount. Again, any remainder will be donated to the Salvation Army shelter stated in a previous update.

Please understand that the GoFundMe will remain open and you can continue your support. We still do not know the full scope of the process, which largely depends on the actions of any opposing parties.

Thank you all for your continued support of Vic, and I look forward to updating you as more information becomes public.

tl;dr: the funds raised are now going directly into a trust account for Vic. The trust account is being managed by Ty Beard, the senior partner of Vic's legal firm, Beard Harris Bullock Hughes. Vic's legal fees will be paid directly from this trust account, and after all of those legal fees are paid, any excess funds will be donated to the Salvation Army shelter, as Vic has previously said they will be.

I think that is actually the accountant managing the trust. their website says they are CPAs. Still blows out the argument rackets is pocketing the money though. edit never mind maybe they are the lawyers. I saw that but when I checked it out I encountered CPAs in Dallas. Hmm. https://www.bh-co.com . they spell is beaird though. So eh.

Generally go with subs/raw, unless the dub is better for some reason, such as Samurai Pizza Cats, Ghost Stories, Cowboy Bebop, Baccano, and some others. Also, Funimation hardsubbed their anime for a while, unlike Crunchyroll who relied on softsubbing. Heck, you could easily tell if Funimation got a license to it by the bigger file size, due to the fact that they have a splash screen with their logo on it before the episode started. Nowadays, it's just a toss up, unless it's Amazon due to their smaller file sizes (Amazon tends to get 1080p video files around in mid-hundreds of megabytes, while others are nearly a gigabyte, a gigabyte, or over a gigabyte).

It was bound to happen. Maybe not so much with the source material directly from Japan, but definitely the english adaptations to a certain extent.

We're talking about anime for crying out loud: One of the most problematic forms of media and entertainment since video games.

I know myself that there are a lot of fantastic, non-sexual anime and manga out there. But that doesn't stop people from viewing the entire medium as softcore pornography. Hence why there's an effort to try and insert politics where it doesn't belong, like with trans people throwing shit-fits over the idea of traps.

I highly doubt a law firm would turn down a paying client because the client's opposition and potential suit targets called them to reeeeeeeeeeee.

If you're going to represent people in the court of law, ya gotta have some really thick skin. Otherwise, could you even imagine attorneys dropping clients because the public sends hate for representing such an allegedly terrible person? And we're not talking the "doesn't know personal boundaries"-kind, but the "literally rapes or murders other people"-kind of terrible person.

There's two big points here. A: This isn't SLAPP. The interference stuff is completely out of it, commercial speech is not protected the same way normal speech is. And for the defamation these are not opinions that are being disputed but statements of fact, which is why a viable defamation case can be made in the first place. B: Contract law is the byzantine fucking thing I've ever seen. Of all lawyers, ones specializing in contract law are the most exceptional for a reason. A layperson is not going to read a contract made by RT and understand shit. Also, it's unimportant but I highly doubt that Shannon had the same contract as Vic, because Vic got one when his name outmassed RWBY's. Shannon got RT contracts when it was a relatively small startup.

Also, Rackets would lose his entire livelihood if this was a "grift". I doubt it would ever happen, but a second defamation case would make my day.

Does nobody teach basic business do's and don't's anymore? Rule 1, do not publicly defame employees, ex employees, co-workers or anyone while you are in any way connected to the company. Yeah Nick probably will not name Rooster Teeth as a defendant, at least to my unskilled eye. But Rooster Teeth's actions go towards proving his damages against those he does sue. And Mr(?) McCormick may find himself interviewed as a witness (witless?)

remember kids, if you aren't directly involved in an employee or contract matter DON'T FUCKING GET INVOLVED!!! No good will ever come of it for you and your employer will never thank you for getting involved. If it involves your place of business and you are not a party just shut up and stay the fuck out of it. This idiot is doing Rooster Teeth no favors. Nick just revealed who Vic's lawyers are. And it's not some puddlefuck little local lawyer. It's a top level Texas Law firm that includes a few Texas State Senators and such.
