“Gamer” is a dirty word: my journey through a lifetime of harassment in video games

Gamergate?died?four?years?ago?

How the fuck are these speds still seeing gamergate under every rock and whispering in Drumpfs ear while Putin penetrates his mouth? How long before we get "My friend took me out for burgers and I got triggered - Why this chain's name is a gamergate dogwhistle"

Now for the horror show:

Imagine if gaming communities were spearheaded by women, and harassment was kept under check.

We tried that already. It was called Bully Hunters and was laughed off the face of the Earth like the joke it was.

Girls can be very mean. They form cliques based on stupid and superficial things. Have game communities policed solely by women and it will eventually devolved into bullying and criticism based on well... Stupid and superficial things.

I hate it when people think that a comminity or even the whole world can instantly change into an inclusive paradise because all the disgusting men are no longer in charge (unless they are troons because you know that would definitely have to be). Having a vag does not instantly make you a good person. Being harassed by some men does not make all men too evil to be trusted with power over a community. The only gatekeeping here is in your own head girlfriend.

Just like with that other nutjob that featured me in her academic mess of a paper I'll say the same thing to you. Stop othering yourself. You isolate yourself from the rest of gamerkind so of course they see you as an outlayer. "I'm not a gamer because men are mean!" yet you still expect them to welcome you with open arms? That's not how a community works.

The whole thing is stupid. Gamergate is dead. Stop beating its bloated corpse and move on. A whole group of people who saw Gamergate as their chance to get loads of attention are still trying to do so in 2019 because they have empty lives with nothing in them. It's really pathetic to see people holding on to a dead movement to get clicks and asspats.

gamers made headlines for their death threats toward women.

While you shouldn't be making death threats against people do these women realise that they are almost exclusively trolls who knew how to get your goat? No one is comng to your house to murder you because you are a dangerhair streaming on Twitch. They are empty threats for the most part born from people who didn't like identity politics encroaching on their hobby. Suddenly gaming needed to become a no fun allowed zone because feelings could be hurt.

I still find it hilarious that a bunch of turquoise hair colored noobs actually thought that gaming communities were going to be as hugboxy as their social media echo chambers. They couldn't take the trash talk or the fact that mean, offensive people play games too so they had to try to take over. And then got mad again when it was met with resistance.

Yeah, who's the gatekeeper now?

I have no problem with this article. The more this fear-mongering keeps going, the fewer women are going to try gaming and ruin it for the people with thick enough skin to hold water.

You know, I could get behind a campaign for online civility. Pretend that the person you're talking to can punch you in the face. Fine.

But getting the UN involved? Please.

You've said before that you share the stories you see cows sharing themselves, who was the originator of this piece @CatParty ? These irish college kids have zero outreach.

i totally forget offhand, now. however, i should include screenshots from the originators lol

It's not always relevant or interesting, but this one stood out (to me) as "why write this? you're a beaner in spudfucker land and nobody knows what you're talking about, and you have 8 readers anyways who are just your friends." I didn't find instagram or twitter accounts for the author, so I'm just scratching my head wondering why.
