They actually said the same exact thing about Kill la Kill. It's feminist because... zmog, the main protagonists are females! I mean, I guess that's better than bitching about all the fanservice, but it's also a huge stretch. They basically have no choice but to stretch, or forgo watching anime altogether. I think the writers just wanted to make a bitshit insane show rather than a political point. Trigger = Gainax 2.0.

Well to be fair, I can think of few things more feminist than a woman owning her sexuality (not that I personally think Kill la Kill is feminist. It's more of a fun action series with the genders of the typical lead characters reversed). Isn't Bayonetta also considered a strong female role model for similar reasons?

I mean, there's plenty of great manga written by women that can be enjoyed by both male and female audiences and a lot of those got adapted into anime (I watched Rose of Versailles recently, still holds up). Their interest in the medium is just so shallow that the only shows they're aware of are the ones that are popular on twitter that week, and that seems to mostly be stuff male audiences enjoy. And once they accidentally enjoyed something that's "problematic", of course a grand feminist narrative must be constructed so their egos are protected while they continue to indulge themselves.

The reason some many seemingly random shows are considered feminist probably comes from 2 places.

1: They are (or were) feminist. Whether it's sex positive feminism, or simply "strong, independent women" along the lines of Ripley from Alien. But what was once progressive and feminist is now sexist and problematic as the goalposts were moved by crazy people.

2: It's a show they like so it's progressive and good and very feminist.

Plus it gives me an excuse to post Anita's freak out when her favourite show was given the progressive treatment she tries to force on other media.

Reasons why you should sign this petition to have Vic Mignogna removed from the Free! English dub casting:

1. Vic admits to refusing to sign homoromantic pieces of art depicting characters he’s voiced in this video. Someone pro-LGBTQIA or at least tolerant of homosexuality wouldn’t discriminate between art depicting straight or gay relationships.

2.Vic said: “yaoi fans are desperate for attention.”

3.Vic dodges question about whether he agrees with gay marriage. Apparently gay marriage is only okay if everyone has voted for it.

4.Vic desperately tries to deny that two characters (one which he has voiced) are gay by lying about his ability to speak Japanese. He also assumes gay relationships can only be sexual. Clamp is a Japanese manga-artist group that seeks to normalise gay relationships and TVtropes lists many reasons why Fai/Kurogane can be interpreted as a gay relationship, making comparisons with gay couples within Clamp’s canon.

5. While some gay fans have reported that Vic’s been professional with them, others have been disappointed by Vic’s homophobia. One fan reports that Vic called him and his boyfriend a ‘disappointment from God.'

6. Video of Vic saying he made a Holocaust joke and refused to apologise. Got offended when a fan called him anti-Jewish.

7. Youtube videos of Vic kissing under-age girls without asking how old they are.

8. Video of Vic behaving in a flirtatious/sexual manner toward an under-aged girl. The scene they are acting out is one that originally takes place between two teenagers in Ouran High School Host Club. Vic is a fifty-two-year-old man.

9. Picture of Vic kissing a girl who clearly doesn’t want Vic’s attention.

10. A blog that documents the experiences of anonymous under-aged girls who have been sexually assaulted by Vic and other people’s negative (or sometimes positive) experiences with the voice actor.

11. Another extremely detailed account of Vic groping fan girls and getting into a fight.

12. One of the ex-moderators of Vic’s fan club ‘Risembool’ Rangers said he invited her to his room when she as under-age. She wouldn’t be the first person to say this.

13. Another character description from a person who used to know Vic.

14. A journalist who has friends inside Funimation lists the reasons why Vic is one of the most hated voice actors working for the company.

Interesting how "He won't sign my yaoi fanart" is reason number one. And "Yaoi fans are desperate for attention" is number two. Surely these sexual assault accusations would be number one? Tipping your hand a bit aren't we?

Kill la Kill has scenes where the mother of one of the MCs sexually molests her. Multiple times. Like worse than the laughable shit they're accusing Vic of.

Let's be real here. It's "problematic" by their own stated standards, but they are desperate to latch onto anything. The more popular, the better. The alternative is saying all anime is garbage, in which case they can't possibly have any credibility in the fandom.

And once they accidentally enjoyed something that's "problematic", of course a grand feminist narrative must be constructed so their egos are protected while they continue to indulge themselves.

Yes.

You're not suggesting that the tumblr shit plebs are mostly going with "Me, me, me" first? Ya know. Rather than the so far (aside from Four that might be legit according to Rackets) completely unsubstantiated, uncorroborated accusations?

To be fair, the petition is to kick him off the cast of Free! Which I haven't seen, but I'm told is all sorts of homoerotic. The anti-gay allegations would be more relevant in such a case.

Like I said in my last post, it’s very fanservicey but not explicitly yaoi. Fangirls getting upset only have themselves to blame for jumping to conclusions when none of the characters have been confirmed gay.

I'm sure he doesn't agree with being gay. But from what I've seen I don't think he's some gay hater. And whoever has been spreading these rumors for such a long time, has to have followed him closely enough to know that. Basically, hundreds of hanleias.

Oh, the anti-gay allegations are horseshit. All I was saying is that I could make a case for why they'd put that particular smear over the other smears in the Feee! petition. That's all.

The petition, taken as a whole, is fucking cringe. Just like 99% of the people that lose their goddamned minds over Vic.

well, their wish came true...four years later, and only because social media had finally poisoned everyone's minds...

Jessie Pridemore just nuked her twitter. First of the KickVics to go into 100% DFE mode.

This is right after TUG did a video pointing out he was going to do a Premire about Pridemore doing blackface... But Youtube nuked it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DtYvaynZJ2Q

boy they will be glad to know we got most of her tweets archived.

Is this stuff any worse than wannabe/failed models and actresses doing cosplays because they know they're tapping into a large market of men with disposable income that they would otherwise be completely disgusted by and scoff at the idea of them ever hanging out?
