Their tentpoles have gotten bored and are walking away from the franchise- artistic temperament and all that sort of thing. The comics could run at a loss and simply be written off as an advertising expense for the movies while they rake in boucoup bucks, but this superhero craze has been going for what, twelve years now? If they don't have contingency plans for the profit margins shrinking in the next half-decade or so, they're dumber than even we think they are.
I hope skeleton movies are the next big thing. That would be fucking sick.

Why would Disney shutdown Marvel comics now anyway? Unless they're seeing the writing on the wall that their big tentpoles are going to start fucking up very, very soon and they can no longer support it. Hrmmm......

Disney has been run as a cold, calculating business for a long time, it’s just that the family-friendly properties that they own mask that. They’re perfectly fine with killing off product lines even if said lines are profitable if they think those products aren’t earning enough for their high standards. As an example, Disney’s toys-to-life Infinity earned them hundreds of millions of dollars yet they discontinued the line because it still fell below their profit expectations.

This isn’t to say that Disney will shutter Marvel Comics, only that it won’t be surprising if they do.

Supposedly Tuesdays are when they flesh out their schedules. Still unnerving to see nothing but Captain Marvel scheduled for an entire week. What a punishment for moviegoers!

I’m not sure how it is in different countries, but where I live, it’s normal for cinema houses to clear out every other movie for big tentpole films, just to maximize profitability. They do it for films from different companies, as long as said films are expected to make big money. They do it for Marvel films, they also do it for DC releases, they do it for any big release film.

Edit: In any case, there are so many entertainment options nowadays that it doesn’t feel like Marvel forcing cinemas to only show Captain Marvel is limiting for people who don’t want to watch it. To be honest, there’s too much good content out there that you need multiple lifetimes to be able to consume them all, even if no new good content ever comes out again.

Kinda late, but I love how this guy thinks people only show up to theaters when a MCU/Disney-Star Wars movie is out.

Well Disney shills are an "interesting" lot, more in the case they certainly will do anything to keep their sweet connections to early viewings amongst other things they get like merch.

So here's how hard they want this to not fail; they are going to force it down your throat even harder than they tried with Ghostbusters 2016. They're going to, in their minds, leave you no other choice but to watch this tripe. What do I mean? Check your local movie theater listings. Notice anything towards the end of the week and continuing until next Monday?

Disney is making movie theaters across the country run only Captain Marvel for days. I stopped going to the movies a long ass time ago, but even so I can't recall something like this happening on such a large scale before.

Imagine being this desperate. Imagine running damage control so hard that you make a certain well known film website completely change so people can't talk about this one movie -- to the point where it made an app like Dissenter get a boost in publicity. Even Black Panther and Wonder Woman didn't get this sort of thing done for it.

Holy fucking shit. Checked my local megaplex. Day before: Tons of movies. Day of Captain Marvel: Just Captain Marvel What in the fuck are they thinking? I hope this is just a fluke because if not fuck Captain Marvel.

Disney wants to bend reality that its a 'success' but good fucking god at how much money they're blowing on this shit.

I think they might have made the cut more favorable for the theaters. For SW:TLJ, Disney tried to swing their dicks at theaters and demand a bigger cut of the ticket sales while requiring the movie have a shit ton of screenings. They might have learned from that and decided to cut some loses to prevent the movie from being a failure concidering the pushback and that fan interest isnt at psychotic levels like it was with Black Panther.

Or it might be a glitch, though I doubt it. Either way this type of shit isnt exactly unheard of for Disney to try and pull.

I honestly wonder if this might be a case in promotion of a movie where the 1:1 production/marketing budget is going to be tipped? Is Disney that delusional that the movie will make black Panther money? Though if it does, then I have given up on alot of big budget movies.

Should we blame Kevin Fiege for Captain Marvel if it turns out it be even worse than we imagined besides Brie Larson?

I don't see how this is a glitch. I've got an extremely detailed schedule of at least a dozen or so movies on Wednesday and nothing but Captain Marvel for the rest of the week. I mean, it MIGHT be, but I don't see how they know their schedule in the middle of next week, then suddenly as Marvel comes out they forget.

I think the problem is they signed this dumb bitch for 7 movies without first checking to see if she'd be popular. So they have to force the illusion that she's popular and instead of developing it organically, they're forcing it down your throat. They think that by forcing people to see it, they'll accept her. Problem is all it takes is 1 movie to lose your audience. TLJ saw to this. Fieger has completely fucked up with Captain Marvel

Oh god not again :stress:, they’ve been doing this shit in the comics for 7 fucking years already. Marvel had to reboot the bitch’s title 8 times:
Try 8 (kinda*) in 6 years.
Captain Marvel (2012) - 17 issues
Captain Marvel (2014) - 15 issues
Captain Marvel & the Carol Corps (2016) - 4 issues (Mini Series)*
Captain Marvel (2016) - 10 issues
Mighty Captain Marvel (2016) - 9 issues
Captain Marvel (2017) - 5 issues (Legacy-Relaunch)
Life of Captain Marvel (2018 ) - 5 issues (Either canceled or mini series)*
Captain Marvel (2019) - Current
Not to mention the one shots which count as #1s because it's the only way they will sell.
Infinity Countdown: Captain Marvel
Generations: Captain Marvel & Captain Mar-Vell
She has more titles than the original Captain Marvel thanks to the constant rebooting.

This is literally the first time I've seen it happen. Even Infinity War was listed alongside other stuff.

Hum, might have to call myself exceptional on this one. The website is showing captain marvel only, but their booking apps have a few other things now.

Weeeeeird.

Feige largely gets the final say on matters unless Iger has reason to override him, so I would say the buck stops with Kev.

As of the time of this post, my local theater (and it's actually a pretty nice one, surprising given how far out in the sticks I live) doesn't have CM listed on it's website for Friday. From what I understand, first-run theaters usually slot new releases into the schedule well in advance, but are more touch-and-go about what holdovers they keep depending on performance. So it would make sense for them to know what new stuff is coming out before they commit to what they're keeping of the old stuff.

Or so I've heard. If anyone has specific knowledge, feel free to jump in.

The shills are completely AT IT this week.

Seen a lot of Disney shills showing off their PR packages of Captain Marvel merch on Instagram already. To quote RedLetterMedia, "VERY COOL."

God, while I understand that getting free stuff can be exciting, I would never sell my soul from allowing myself to form an opinion about something. I'd feel dead inside if I just shilled for whatever company gives me free crap.

I have legit come across Instagram accounts where people post nothing but Disney merchandise. There are people who are SO thirsty to become a part of that PR list. It's so pathetic.

I think a problem with Black Widow is that she’s kinda been the Avengers bicycle for a while. In the first Avengers she’s being set up to have a romance with Hawkeye, then in Winter Soldier she has a kiss with Cap, and then in AoU they have a romance with Banner come out of nowhere. I don’t think it’s a problem as she’s really more of a secondary/sidekick character, but make her any bigger than that and can you imagine all the feminist bitching? I guarantee you Carol will either have one male love interest that dies in the first movie then she’ll never think about men again, or never show any interest in guys at all. That’s what strong wahmen do right?

I think Carol could slot into the franchise really well as a Jessica Jones type character. (which fits, seeing as they’re friends in the comics) Make her a bit of a fuckup in life who has these amazing powers but still can’t get her shit together. Make her kind of a bitch and have her not really be interested in superheroing, but give her an actual reason for it. That would even work to explain why she wasn’t in any of the Avengers films prior.

Reading about Brie Larson...

Born in Sacramento, California, Larson was homeschooled. At age six, she became the youngest student admitted to a training program at the American Conservatory Theater.

Larson was born Brianne Sidonie Desaulniers on October 1, 1989, in Sacramento, California, to Heather and Sylvain Desaulniers.[1][2] Her parents were homeopathic chiropractors who ran a practice together, and they had another daughter, Milaine.[3][4] Her father is French Canadian and in her childhood, Larson spoke French as her first language.[5] She was mostly homeschooled, which she believed allowed her to explore innovative and abstract experiences.

Homeschooled by wacky California homeopaths is her only education besides a fancy pants San Francisco acting school from age six. She really had no chance to turn out as anything but an out of touch SJW. She doesn't know any other world.
