Reading about Brie Larson...

Homeschooled by wacky California homeopaths is her only education besides a fancy pants San Francisco acting school from age six. She really had no chance to turn out as anything but an out of touch SJW. She doesn't know any other world.

So she's basically a modern day Gwyneth Paltrow.

Not surprised in the slightest.

I think a problem with Black Widow is that she’s kinda been the Avengers bicycle for a while. In the first Avengers she’s being set up to have a romance with Hawkeye, then in Winter Soldier she has a kiss with Cap, and then in AoU they have a romance with Banner come out of nowhere. I don’t think it’s a problem as she’s really more of a secondary/sidekick character, but make her any bigger than that and can you imagine all the feminist bitching?

When people talk about Black Widow leading the Avengers, I assume they mean the sexy and interesting Black Widow from Iron Man 2 and not the "ScarJo refuses to do any fitness training, wear makeup or dye her hair red" Black Widow from Infinity War.

I too miss when she had the best choreagraphed fight scenes in the MCU.

The cherry on the shit sundae is going to be something like a post credits scene with her cat getting thanos'd to show she totally has a stake in it and deserves to defeat Thanos. They are shoehorning her in so hard as the new face of the MCU when she has no charisma compared ro people like RDJ and Chris Evans (Covington and other politisperging aside) that I wouldnt be surprised. But traits in women that would indicate being an awful dick in a man are empowering! Brie Larson is a bigoted narc? YAS QUEEN!

This makes me want to say the n word

It's crazy because Disney tried the same thing with Last Jedi but the theater owners pushed back. Disney must have kicked the bribery into overdrive.

I could imagine this backfiring on Disney hard if the film underperforms (which would be a problem with them once their deal closed to buy Fox, who has had box office flops so far this year that'll probably drag Disney down).

I think the problem is they signed this dumb bitch for 7 movies without first checking to see if she'd be popular. So they have to force the illusion that she's popular and instead of developing it organically, they're forcing it down your throat. They think that by forcing people to see it, they'll accept her. Problem is all it takes is 1 movie to lose your audience. TLJ saw to this. Fieger has completely fucked up with Captain Marvel
I can't believe they signed her up for that many movies. Test the waters, idiots. You can't depend on her to move tickets when the character can't even move comics. Hope most of those movies are team ups if this one shits the bed

I want someone to make a "Becky Carol vs. Stacy Diana"
Truth be told, I was thinking of doing a Captain Becky vs. Alita: Stacy Angel at some point while at the same time also doing that same meme you were just talking about. This was coming off of these two memes I made a few days ago.

In Marvel's defense, they didn't know how well audiences would take to RDJ as Iron Man or Chris Evans as Cap. It's possible that they did not know what they were getting into with Brie Larson until after she signed the contract. They just wanted a Oscar winner in the role.

I don't see it, man. I see this opinion pop up every now and then insisting "Robert Downey JR wasn't an A list actor so Marvel took a big chance." Fuck that. Robert Downey JR was the fucking shit in the 80's. He was a household name. After his drug addictions and false recoveries he was down the totem pole for sure, but before Iron Man he was doing quite a few big movies including Tropic Thunder. And he IS Tony Stark. It was genius casting to get him as Iron Man. Downey even had a weird father/son relationship just like Stark. By the same logic you could say "Well, you know, Ryan Reynolds wasn't an A lister." Fuck off, he was known, and he fit the character of Deadpool like a glove.

Robert Downey JR IS Iron Man.

Ryan Reynolds IS Deadpool.

Oh, they'll no doubt be. I think its Feige that's pushing Marvel hard and if he fucks it up he's going to be side-lined.

If they keep shoving her down people's throats after this debacle, then the MCU is dead, period. Starwars has fucking cratered ever since TLJ and Episode 9 is being kept tightly to the chest.

This is 100% bribery. They're paying theaters off to do this. And I've kinda got a feeling why:

They knew EXACTLY what they were getting with her. You don't go in this big and then sign for 7 movies. They figured they had their zombie audience and could get away with it. They're quickly realizing that nobody has a captive audience anymore and shit can turn on a dime.

So they're literally making you a captive fucking audience. My theater has NOTHING but Captain Marvel from Thursday to Sunday. I don't buy that bullshit I can get a detailed breakdown of 8 movies on Wednesday but from Thursday to Sunday its only one. Bullshit.

EDIT:
I also think they're going to struggle with the misogynistic narrative. With Alita and Wonderwoman doing well, you can't blame it on basement dwelling trolls. They'll try, but even the dumbest motherfucker can connect those dots. They picked a really, really bad movie to go in on. I hope this bombs. Fuck these people.

EDIT2:
I've checked bigger multiplexes. Thursday, opening night has other movies, but Friday and the weekend only has Captain Marvel. They're deffo paying the theater based on traffic. The bigger the theater, the more money they want to do this. Also, prepare for the narrative Captain Marvel had a huge opening weekend....except most people couldn't fucking see another movie. This is some dystopian shit right fucking here.

Well, if I can't see Alita this weekend, then guess what? I'm going to stay home and watch Wonder Woman on Blu-Ray instead. The FEMALE MARVEL fan is choosing to stay home on this film's opening weekend. Fuck Carol Danvers, and fuck Brie Larson.

My game plan is to skip opening weekend, read all of the spoilers, and then decide for myself if I even want to check it out in theaters altogether. I'm hoping upon hope that the media circus behind this movie is just a distraction for what may very well end up being a fun and harmless movie ... But given Disney's recent track record, I'm feeling less and less optimistic about it.
