Weeb Wars / AnimeGate / #KickVic / #IStandWithVic / #vickicksback - General Discussion Thread

I expect that Ty will be a little dry at first since YouTube livestreams aren't necessarily his forte, but Nick will ease him into it with some scotch.

If you can stand to wade through the shit, the PULL thread has some amusing gems. This marvelous poster has no idea that central Minnesota doesn't give a fuck about the online drama of the anime community. Nick isn't going to gain nor lose clients over his behavior on these topics.

The thread is full of low key screaming and whining, mostly about Nick, and anyone disabusing the normal posters of their idiotic opinions or assumptions (like Nick not being a practicing lawyer) are being called white knights. First time I've seen someone on this side of the divide being called that, it's a little amusing.

I don't know. Adrian Shaw had a 2011 academic paper that stated, effectively, the following:
  1. Gamers do not identify with their avatars, and do not find diversity to be a virtue
  2. Gamers are strong believers in meritocracy
  3. Meritocracy and a refusal of identity politics is a sin against Social Justice
  4. Therefore: The gamer identity must be destroyed and replaced with a new gamer identity that will accept Social Justice
Sargon has an expose on Shaw here. The hilarious thing is like all good Marxists, Shaw did two papers about the same research and came to the exact opposite conclusion in each. This primed the Identity Marxists that were infesting gaming -- they now had an enemy to destroy, and a cause to crusade for -- those evil Gamers had to be replaced with properly controlled "Soy Gamers."

Zoe Quinn was just a useful idiot to them, and them to her -- like most SA goons she figured out if you pretend to be a feminist no one is allowed to call you out on your shit. Quinn being outed as a rapist by her male feminist rape victim helped spark GG, but it really just showed that GameJournoPros was setting narratives. The Gamers Are Dead thing came from the Identity Marxist / Cultural Marxist true believers in Gaming Journalism, and would have happened even without Quinn's little stupidity... But when, exactly would they have made that play?

Did the Quinn backlash cause them to jump the gun? Maybe. Quinn was heavily connected with a lot of those Cultural Marxist true believers, and a lot of the GameJournoPros members (hell, she fucked half of them), but was using both for her own ends. But I don't know if the Gamers are Dead articles were connected directly to Quinn, and I don't know if the GJP mailing list organized the Gamers are Dead articles, or if that was a separate SocJus organization effort.

If the true believers had waited another year or more to make their play, 4chan / Reddit would have been completely subverted, TB would have been too busy dying of cancer to get involved, MundaneMatt would have probably given up on YT instead of covering and being DMCA'd over it, Milo would have moved on to greener pastures, et cetera. We would have seen a situation like comics, where if you don't espouse the virtues of Social Justice you just don't get work, period.

Thankfully for us, as GG, CG, ThotGate, and the Weeb Wars have shown, you have the alpha SJWs (Anita, Zoe, etc) who set the narrative et all, and the beta SJWs (Rial, Marchi, Wu, etc) who don't understand the finer points of all this but know how to join in a lynch mob when one forms. And the latter cause so, so much more harm to the SocJus priesthood than almost anything else.

Lost in this is that the SJW mafia was already priming/itching for a test case to test out maximum internet censorship/shut the fuckers down hard mass censorship purge. They were already building the machine post-Obama's re-election as far as prepping for the thousand year reich Hillary would reign over for the left.

Gamergate was a test case for how fast they could shut down an anti-censorship grass root movement, in the social media age. The irony is that it backfired mightily on them in that Gamergate was not only able to overcome the SJW mafia's tactics, but also create a credible playbook for everyone else to fight the SJW Mafia and their media cronies, which carried over to 2016 when people saw shades of what Hillary was doing against Trump with what was done to Gamergate.

Also, "Gamers Are Dead" was largely Leigh Alexander's brainchild as she had ties to a lot of mainstream media platforms (and not so mainstream ones, like Harris O'Malley, who's Dr Nerdlove only got off the ground due to Alexander's patronage and who was promised a book deal for his column if he participated in the Games Are Dead hit piece campaign). She was the one who used her pull at Guardian to kill any actual investigation, as far as literally making the editorial staff believe her bullshit lies about Gamergate and letting her run all coverage of Gamergate at the Guardian in order to shape the anti-GG narrative to her liking.

I'd also argue a major point of difference between Comicsgate and Gamergate: Comicsgate happened just as the comic industry hit a huge fucking down period with Marvel in particular entering probably their worst period (sales and fan response-wise) in the wake of the end of Secret Wars. When Gamergate hit, the gaming industry was (and is) still going strong. With Comicsgate, you have undisputable proof that SJW garbage was killing sales and driving away readers, with DC further adding blood to the water by way of initiating the Rebirth revamp, which in and of itself was a massive PR blitz to get fans to come back.

The thread is full of low key screaming and whining, mostly about Nick, and anyone disabusing the normal posters of their idiotic opinions or assumptions (like Nick not being a practicing attorney) are being called white knights. First time I've seen someone on this side of the divide being called that, it's a little amusing.

Clearly this bitch has never used a lawyer for anything more complicated that drafting a will or conveyancing.

While the actual legal costs might not go anywhere near $100k, it's not an excessive amount to spend of salvaging your reputation and by extension your career.

I think she's also over-estimating any potential splash back to Nick here. He's a criminal lawyer and nobody wants a criminal lawyer who doesn't play hard ball. People are also sick to death of trial by social media. A couple of test cases going well is going to see other people lining up to "kick back" and Nick Rekeita is one of the names they're going to remember as being unafraid of the social media star chambers.

Streams aren't usually my thing but there's no way I'm missing today's one.

I don't dislike Vic, but I most definitely dislike Brolly.
He is such a shit character.
He was fine in the new movie. Broly needed that revamp in personality and motivation. Still not deep, but better than flipping his shit because baby Goku cried. Damn, I really like the Super movie and all this drama makes it a little awkward to watch now. The spergouts among the VA's and random staff is amazing but it kinda sucks when you fully realize it's seeping into what you like.

If you can separate the art from the artist then you might enjoy it as much. I personally enjoy Dubs more than Subs most of the time. However, that doesn't mean I will pay for any of their services as long they keep pulling stunts like this. Hence why it's hilarious to me how much fame has gotten to some of these VAs' heads.
