I've been told and have seen a few other quotes around that Yu Yu Hakusho's dub script is quite terrible because of Justin Cook's influence and was definitely done around the time Funimation was doing some shit that was reminiscent of what 4KIDS and Saban did in their heyday.
First I've heard of this. Would like to see some examples if true since I've mostly heard the opposite, although that could simply be due to YYH being treated better than the dub for Z and GT at the time.

Speaking of Justin Cook, this ties back into me mentioning Kai a while back. Originally when Funimation got the license for Kai, they were simply going to cut and paste the dialogue from their Z dub into Kai and let it be. It took the likes of Sabat, Cook and possibly a few others to practically beg and plead for them to actually put in the effort for a brand new dub.

You username and avatar got me to think about something and maybe you (and others) might know what I'm talking about (or try to). I've been told and have seen a few other quotes around that Yu Yu Hakusho's dub script is quite terrible because of Justin Cook's influence and was definitely done around the time Funimation was doing some shit that was reminiscent of what 4KIDS and Saban did in their heyday. I mean, they did the same thing to Dragon Ball Z 's original dub script as well at about the same time that they didn't properly dub/translate until years later. So there's already proof that long before the SJW takeover that Funimation has done some questionable localization even if that was basically the norm for anime distributors to do at the time.

So if Funimation indeed goes the way of 4KIDS, this was a bad seed that had been planted since the very beginning of Funimation's existence, yes? It was just a matter of time before their bad decisions came back to bite them in the ass?

Social Justice is an accelerant to any institutional dumpster fire. The entire ideology is premised on the notion that the only goal is power and power only manifests within groups. Meaning your employees will inevitably wage war on each other.

Any company that let's this cancer in the gates will die horribly. And they deserve it. Because the ideology is specifically clear about what it wants. Every level of their organization at each others throats to determine who deserves the biggest slice of the pie based not on merit but implied victimhood.

Note to any people running businesses or are involved in hiring. If any of their degrees has the word "studies" at the end throw their resume in the trash. Dont hire anyone with an unnatural hair color, and if they start making memos about equity in the coffee room, fire them immediately.

The good thing about the aposematic coloration is it's not a protected category either. You don't have to have any reason for refusing to hire dangerhairs.

They aren't exactly friends afaik, so even trying to associate them in that manner is kind of a stretch. I imagine that Vic would attend any convention that would have him. It just so happens that AM is one of the few willing to give him a chance. Personally, I think that's worth supporting. But even if there are problems, I can't blame Vic for that.

I think people tend to falling into the trap of many people online who equate people along group identity lines. But your logic, if you were contracted by a company, and the CEO was known for hitting on his junior colleagues and shady business practices. Then you must be a bad person, and approve of the CEOs lifestyle, because you associated with that company, whether you knew of that information or not. You contract isn't just a contract, its a political statement to everyone around you.

Here we go again.

Gonna keep this as vague as possible so I don't power level myself. I was in charge of hiring people and I specifically avoid hiring people of a certain religion, it's a sub-denomination of Christianity, because of their practice of hiring exclusively of their members and if they have a church holiday they will cripple operations on that day. If they get in and squirm their way to HR, that's it. We were a fairly new firm and I was having none of that. Recently I added danger hairs to my personal do-not-hire list.

So Vic assaulted 4 women Ron knows, including Ron's partner, and we're supposed to believe that all they wanted was for Vic to go away for a while and think about what he'd done? Because that wouldn't be a normal response to someone assaulting multiple people you know. They're lying about what happened, what they want, or both.

"If I keep making more accusations then they'll turn out to be true!"

Ron really likes digging with his shovel.

I know we are not supposed to feel sorry for Cows, but having watched Ron I think I have his basic psychology pegged. He is some menial mortgage broker who works in a cubical, making calls, receiving calls, having to go to work in uncomfortable shirts and sucking up to people day in and day out. He has to suck up to his boss, who is probably some cousins son to the owner of the company and 5 years younger to him. He has to suck up to his clients, who are difficult idiots who don't know the difference between a credit and a debit. But even then he can't use his knowledge but instead explain in pedantic detail basic financial stuff to people who have more money then he does but less brain cells, and look down on him for it. And if for one second he lets slip what he really thinks about them from behind the servile mask, he will get fired by the cousins son 5 years younger then he is.

But then a miracle happens. He gets romantically involved with an "actress". A major player, the voice of Bulma! I mean, he watched Dragonball Z growing up! He knows who Bulma is. This is a big deal! Suddenly his menial existence is not so menial. Now, for the first time he has his hands around something divine, not mundane. Now, he has the respect of someone clearly his superior. A literal demi-god of culture and grace. But there is a problem. His precious demi-god has to mingle amongst other demi-gods. Like Vic Mignogna. How can Ron, humble Mortgage broker guy, compare to the voice of Edward Elric and his legion of Fan Girls? Did he touch his precious divine creature monica? Who knows?! She say's it never happened, but it almost did and it was horrible! Oh Ron, he practically forced himself on me! I was so scared! You will help me defend my honor against Vic, won't you Ron?!

And so he does. Because he must. Suddenly he is not Ron, random Mortgage Broker guy. Now he is the fearless White Knight, defending Bulma from the evil racist rapist misogynists. It does not matter that his precious love has gone silent and left him to fend for himself. His cause is just. His cause is Important. It MATTERS! For the first time in his life he is doing something REAL! He is not selling Mortgages to stuck up idiots who insult his clear superiority. He is fighting the enemies of society, decency and his precious Monica Rial! He is a HERO!

Good luck Ron.

I mean, this is a guy who commonly watches people more masculine than him assault his S/O on a frequent basis.
And is pretty proud of the fact.
But without a doubt, he wont be able to name these friends, or produce any evidence about it.
We should believe the men who say they speak for women, after all.

Going off of memory here, though I did a quick Google search to see if similar complaints were brought up and that it wasn't just an isolated case. Granted, the people who brought it up didn't always have a preference for dubs, but they felt that the dub started falling apart after the Dark Tournament, adding things in that didn't make sense narratively, putting in jokes where they weren't appropriate, or making contradictions. One example that was given was that in the original, Sensui told Yusuke he never cared about his portal and that it was all just to get him to fight him, then gets his ass beat by Yusuke who tells him how stupid it was for him to go through all those tests for a stupid reason when he would've complied had he asked him. Then he later mentioned to Sensui, "You didn't care, right?" In the dub, their exchange was changed into something completely different, Sensui didn't even mention he literally went through the trouble just to get Yusuke to come to him, yet in the dub Yusuke still asked him "You said you didn't care, right?" when Sensui never mentioned such a thing.

(Honestly, it's been a while since I last watched the show so I can't confirm how this played out, so it sounds nitpicky, but I'm just paraphrasing what I remember.)

Something I saw on GameFAQs about the dub had pointed out there was a difference in character personalities, although it was about one of the announcers for the Dark Tournament turning from a good girl working for bad people into a sadist in the dub. I also remember one rant I had found years ago that I can't find at the moment in which the person had a serious hate-boner for Justin Cook after watching his interviews on the DVDs gave them an impression he's just a douche who claimed to everything about YYH because he read the manga so many times. I have the season DVDs so I'll go take a look and see if these interviews are on there so I can see what they meant by it (unless it's on an older release, if YYH had a couple of different DVD releases).

But while general consensus is that the dub is good and I don't disagree, I do remember thinking when I first watched it a couple of years ago is that it has been showing its age, like you could definitely tell it was one of Funimation's first (serious) projects. But in comparison to GT, yeah, the dub was handled better, though both are enjoyable/tolerable watches.

So if Justin Cook is an okay guy, he may not have to get dragged into this mess, but he was one of the original founders, right? It's probably why he's been mostly relegated to being credited as a producer, I take it? (I don't recall him being cast in anything big in the last few years, anyway.)

The main things I'm worried about WRT Matsuri are:
  1. They'll use this situation to try and draw attention away from their shady history...
    1. A. ...and use that opportunity to take advantage of some other person or group. GoFundMe scans aren't unheard of, and they'd probably be less complicated than some of their earlier antics (like the fraudulent wholesale auto-parts scam).
  2. That Vic isn't aware of their past & they might use his situation (few cons willing to take him) to exploit him, say collecting fees for his autographs & not actually paying him or providing his room & board.
I don't think he has too much to worry about WRT association. Most of the people who'd go that route probably already hate Vic based on the allegations. The main non-monetary consequence I could see would be if scenario 1A played out & Vic felt responsible for those guys taking advantage of his fans.

And he just mentions this now? What a friend.

I honestly don't understand why whatever legal team they have around hasn't hogtied & gagged these people already. I mean, they're in Texas, so they should at least know how.

Mormons. Its Mormons. Utah shuts down on whatever their fucking day is and any branch unfortunate enough to be out there grinds to a halt.

You know... I unironically would watch a youtuber that did something like Nick / French do for the law, only for home buying et all.

Someone talking about the differences in mortgages, maybe doing walkthroughs of houses and pointing out things people might not think to check, "here's a change that'll make you $20,000 in equity," that sort of thing.

TFW you throw your body into the gears to fight toxic masculinity except it was actually a transformer and now everybody's power is out.
