Yes it must be fought for, but Sargon has each time been unwilling for the situations that take real courage and only aimed for low hanging fruit. In that sense he is like Churchill, who after learning where the german bombers were going, stood on the rooftop of building and shouted "bravely" that hitler should try bombing him there. And each time he got a report that they might actually be coming in that direction, left the city quickly by car.
A politician thoroughly bought. Much like Sargon was unwilling to even just point at the corruption of either betterhelp or candid.
If he can't even point out these corruptions in his own backyard of youtube, then he won't be able to make the slightest dent into the corruption of either UK government or the EU.
His audience is just a bunch of lazy gamers who want to feel like they're defending the west, as if they're playing europa universalis, while never risking anything but some of the dollars they got from their mom. And if they don't get any, they'll strangle her. Shadilay.
Sargon has the ambition, but not the courage, graft or intelligence to make a dent.
I'm the bigger fool here, because I know this analysis is wasted on sargoy's audience.

It astonishes me how a person could build a channel ostensibly based around questioning authority and critical thinking and attract an audience almost exclusively of slobbering sycophants. This is why people call him a cult leader because he has cultivated these braying moron fans and he revels in their audulation without ever once thinking "this is a bit much". Were I in his position and I were honest about my intentions I would demand they reign it in, I would even go so far as to try to shed the sycophants from the audience by destroying something they love.

His channel was built on gamergate and questioning feminists. This was a much needed correction and being among the first to put in weekly effort around this, served as a focusing point. Most of that youtube punditry is based on how good you are able at "portrayal". Essentially acting and riling up the viewers. If they feel something, they're connecting and you're succeeding. He portrays emotions, mostly chuckles or anger.
This is very apparent if you see Sargon in debate setting, because this portrayal is only from his shoulders up (what you need to do for a video).

You can see it here clearly, his slumped body language. The lazy way he sits in the chair.
His face and shoulders tell a different story. They are in fucking warrior mode, ready to portray aggressively what needs to be portrayed.

Anyways to get back to the point, Sargon's brand became more and more about his ego, because he is terrified of humiliation as he has stated previously. He is not interested in working hard for it's sake or the goals, but to protect himself from the fear of being humiliated. As such he has chosen to be controlled by his fear and all but ensured that he would be consumed by it. Over time this meant he could only have sycophants around him, because even when Jim gives him honest good advice, Sargon slaps it in the wind. Because if he doesn't he has to reconcile the fact that he really hasn't achieved that much. And he'd rather have a lie to say that yes gamergate won and that yes, he's saving the west than accept the truth that his chance of affecting things are very very slim (and acknowledging that to himself would increase his effectiveness for having a better map).
You know sycophants are dangerous, because they'll never tell you when there are no emperor's clothes. Sargon is so afraid of humiliation, that nobody may be allowed to say he isn't wearing any clothes and if they do, he doxes you and tries to frame you as a child groomer.
His biggest impact on the political landscape was probably paying for this video to be made:
Which I think got Dawkins banned from some things for retweeting it. Well that and getting ukip in hot water with his comments.

You might be colorblind if you think what sargon is dropping are redpills. The dude is the most milquetoast, inoffensive person possible. All he does is engender a sense of superiority in upholding the status quo. He's a beacon of stagnation and in that sense is dangerous. He manages to say almost nothing in the most words possible.

What shocks me is that this seems to happen with nearly every e-celeb, from Sargon to Kraut, from Tonka to Ralph, they all seem to have some portion of their audience that could see them do nearly anything up to and possibly including violent crime, and would just either forgive them for it or outright deny it happened.
Sargon's portion of his audience that's like that is nearly 100% so it seems (and honestly is) much worse with his fans, but it's still a strange, sickening, and a bit frightening phenomenon that seems to happen with disturbing regularity. Even Baked Alaska had sycophants in the end before he decided it wasn't worth it and dipped out entirely.

When it comes to understanding Carl Benjamin as a person, because there really is no online persona its all the same person, you must begin and end with his ego.
His ego is monstrous, possibly worse than anything we can even imagine from the snippets we have seen of it so far. His desire for attention and validation are a prime factor that drives him as a person. i am sure we can all agree on this.
What I disagree with you on is that the seeds for this had been sown and had grown into a rotten, bad smelling flower long before Gamergate had ended. The cultivation of his sycophantic followers had begun long before. Why do you think he latched on to DIGRA in the way he did when nobody else was even interested in it? It was a niche for him to corner a conspiratorial minded audience. Why do you think he had a youtube channel to begin with if not to attract attention?
When he admitted that gamergate was over it was an out for him to transfer his still meagre celebrity onto something more mainstream (Anti SJWism). The fact that gamergate was an abject failure in every one of the overarching goals it set out to achieve did not phase him. There was no further introspection, there was no attempt to continue the fight guerrilla style, there was no attempt to document or archive this minor but significant, in the lives of some, event. Nothing came of it but a lurch from one stagelight to the next . And as his audience grew and as that ever thirsting ego consumed ever more meaningless positive feedback we got to see glimpses of what lay underneath. i think our biggest mistake was to assume that Carl grew into what he is today. He was like this from the start.
I believe that this is not some kind of conscious effort from him but some kind of inchoate impulse from his lizard brain that drives him to be what he is. And that is what is so tiresome about him. The facade of logic and reason fools you enough to think that he is a normal human being, a real boy just like the rest of us. His constant insistence that his opponents nitpick with him on insignificant details like article 11 or what people are saying about Anita Sarkeesian blinds us from the most pertinent things about him.
What is the bigger picture with Carl Benjamin?
Why is he doing all of this?
What is he getting out of it?
What sort of person spends their life cloistered away in their back room half reading news articles from biased sources and making half hour long videos about them?
It angered me at first. Now it depresses me.
Its been said that youtube is essentially a friend simulator. Its horrifying to consider that people form an emotional attachment to a person who wants you to watch an ad and donate to patreon before giving you their opinion on why star wars is promoting gender communism.
It reminds me of a time I saw a gay pride parade somewhere in america sponsored by Lockheed Martin. As astonishingly tone deaf as that is what was worse were the people in the comment section 'YAAAAS KAWEENING' over it.
I dont think it needs to be said but the most positive emotion any right minded person should feel for a company that creates machines of war is apathy.
I guess perhaps in this age of advanced capitalisim many people are alienated from normal human interaction that they now have to live vicariously through brands.
I wonder if inceldom and the hikkimori phenomenon are just tastes of whats to come and in future we will all be a lot more isolated from genuine human contact.
I cant imagine anything worse than the future being a reddit comment section.

He had a youtube account before gamergate and it was gamergate that was finally giving him any real numbers of followers. Of course it was in persuit of an audience. But he also approached things with some humility, or there wouldn't even be a video of him saying that his ego is his main motivation. I believe he really meant it. But when it comes down to it, gamergate was his chance to virtue signal. People that do virtue signalling because they lack virtue, so they signal it instead. He briefly had some virtue; he did work at it and he did try to shape himself into what he needed to be at the time. Yes, the seeds had been sown, because he is an ego monster and he doesn't have the intelligence or courage to keep riding the tiger and he never acknowledged to himself that virtue is a lifelong commitment of difficulty.
Gamergate is what made anti-SJWism mainstream. Look at old google trends for SJW and gamergate. They both cluster around the same areas in the world (particularly california) and they have similar numbers in that period. I don't think social justice warrior would have become a common word without gamergate. In this sense I don't think the /pol/ minded people consider gamergate an abject failure; they provided linguistic and satirical tools to fight back and that has been pretty effective.

In some sense every news anchor spends their life that way. He's become a mordern pundit/news anchor from and for the autists. He wanted to graduate further to some president tier politician, because sargon needs more dopamine. A lot of ambition is a dangerous thing.

The term skepic comes from the Atheism+ drama fallout of which Carl was a spectator, a living stereotype. I believe he carried the anti atheism+'s talking points forward into anti feminism. He is not a terribly imaginative person and you can see that many of his early stuff is really just a rehash of people like Thunderfoot and Mykeru's stuff from back then.
I really think it was cynical from the beginning.
That sentence is more true than we will ever know.

This is why I kinda love him. He's so out-of-date and out-of-touch with his observations that it's just cute. It's like that time he was debating communism with someone and excitedly said "this is something I've recently learned....when commies say 'private property', they don't mean your toothbrush." Or when he revealed to us, based on his now extensive experience in politics, that politics might be more about personalities than politics.
Now he is telling us the hard truth, by observing something that has been talked about continuously since 1997, that you can't put a piece of tissue paper between the conservatives and New Labour, both of which are socially progressive neoliberal parties. And right and left have been complaining about this in the UK for over two decades, with arch-conservative Peter Hitchens having written a fuck load of books and articles explaining that the modern conservatives have so bailed on social conservatism that the party needs to be disbanded. How ignorant of the world can Carl be that he has turned up twenty years late to this now boring observation?
Carl was recently interviewed saying that Brexit will be good because it will let us be a more competive tax haven. I can't wait for the video where he announces "hey guys! I have just learned some startling facts! It turns out that this tax haven, secrecy jurisdiction, shadow banking system and the city of London are just a lil bit corrupt!"

There's a pretty good reason why that's the case though, in the old days of youtube (and I don't mean the 'good old days' of the great meme war 2 years ago that Styx likes to embarrassingly prattle on about for some godforsaken reason) there was a genuine social aspect to the site that didn't exist anywhere else and has never really been replicated since. Front and center community discussions on the mainpage of channels, reply videos being an actual function of the site, a solidly useful pm system, and no ad revenue made for a community of people who genuinely were interested in talking about things. Once Google took over, they stripped the site of all of it's social aspects, drove a wedge between youtubers along the line of "creators" and "audience" and did everything they could to make money front and center. I still remember when TJ would catch never-ending amounts of shit for e-begging and yet now, even Jim has a Patreon... Paypigging is seen as supporting the "YouTube Community." (Never trust someone who uses the 'C word')
I remember getting to meet some wonderful and fascinating people when the site hadn't been gutted and turned into a soulless husk yet, having the ability to see and hear the other person just enhanced the social media aspect of the site and created a surprising number of tight-knit communities. The problem is, as more and more of the redeeming aspects of the site were stripped away, it was done in a slow manner that avoided culture shocking the site after the shitshow that was the Cosmic Panda rollout. This allow more and more snakes to come in and continue to exploit the internet fwiends system to their own advantage, each building their own little cult of personality rather than having any real social interaction with their viewers like in the old days... and the system rewarded them for it the more manipulative they were.

Ain't that the truth. It's really a great part of capitalist jewry; you uproot every type of community, both athletic side, boyscout side and religion until there is little community left... and then you sell back the idea of community online.
I saw this in regards to some of the shadiest type of child rape coverups; they go really crazy for selling themselves as "local and supported by the community". Much like people who start their sentences with "we live in a society". It's selling something that a lot of people are yearning for and missing.

Carl is as much of a victim of this as his fans are too. He lives vicariously through the internet and he recieves his kudos on screen. Fuck even the money he makes is digital. His marriage is the only real thing about him and even that is a train wreck.
It was funny though when the skeptics first tried to push the whole community angle. When people started calling it out they literally fell over one another like headless chickens to deny it. I remember that carl had some disingenious argument for using it which was essentially a reformulation of what the word community actually meant.
I just thought it was funny. Individualism was really the last thing they had that they were consistent on and they threw it all out just to suck carls dick.
