I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

I have a distinct feeling she is going to get rat fucked into oblivion. She's a really, deeply stupid cunt. She is fucking up so hard and so much and a major boon to Republicans and turning off independents by the droves. The 'new face' of the democratic party has really gotten to her head

This is the fate of all millennial woke kweens who run for political positions. They grew up watching reality tv, think they are destined for greatness, and have never been told “no” in their entire lives. They are incapable of keeping their powder dry. They will all get rat fucked by the (((powers that be))) for fucking things up. The media loves covering AOC but they will ultimately follow their marching orders and AOC will be a forgotten meme like Rickrolling or snap bracelets.

When is she up for reelection because she might get a reality check soon.
For congressional spots it's an election every two years. So 2020, methinks. The DNC is already positioning their daggers to kill her political career and the fact they'll be forced to do it on a presidential election is incredible to me. They will be forced to either put down one of their mad dogs that have slipped the leash and give a bit of bump to Trumps election campaign or bite the bullet, try to dislodge Trump from the presidency, and give Cortez a couple more years to fuck things up even more fully.

I got a gut feeling that she will be rate fucked during the primaries, though mostly by the voters who had enough that this dumb manchild making a mockery out of her district she is supposed to represent.

I don't know what you would call a woman what you call a manchild to men because AOC to me has the personality of a basement-dwelling manchild.

Democrats at both the federal level in the New York state party have both been floating strategies to rid themselves of AOC. Pelosi has mentioned possibly primary-ing her in the same way she primary-ed Crowley, and the Democrats in Albany have said her district may (or may not, they're very coy about it) be eliminated from existence when they re-draw the lines after the 2020 census.

I agree re: AOC, but both Omar and Tlaib have districts with massive support for them out of religious loyalty. They're much harder to overtly get rid of without Democrats risking alienating Muslims, who are already super socially conservative and usually voted Republican pre-9/11.

Yeah that’s been my stance for a while too. Plus, some of you know this much better than me, but AOC was elected by like the bare minimum needed.

(I don’t remember specifics)

It was a low-energy election. Now that she is making waves, it’s going to be electric for her in 2020.

I can't even figure out what "recreate the challenger mission" means. Does she mean the launch? The explosion? The deaths? Her weird attempts to seem human and relatable are getting increasingly bizarre; I can't tell if her confusion is just out-of-touch champagne socialism or if she is legitimately a lizard person who was released into the public a few years too early.

I wonder if someone else actually controls her Twitter account (probably), and they have decided that they do not value their job anymore, deciding to couch the stupidest things possible under faux girl power bravado. It's hard to believe she could actually cram so much stupid into one paragraph, it almost sounds like that tweet was randomly auto-generated .

I haunt some liberal pages on platforms like Facebook. This reads almsot verbatim like one of their featured photos. And also like some of the angry boomers and woke kweens you see below in the comments section, but with less profanity.

Which makes sense, Trump probably lurks the Donald on reddit, AOC I’m sure lurks young Turks, the other 98%, media matters, being liberal, and the countless other pages the left claims.

Anyone else feel like AOC, Talib, Omar and their followers are essentially nothing more than the Dem's version of this generation's Tea Party Movement? Like in the case where both crowds are as equally loud and newsworthy, but equally divisive for their party, but once their paradigm ended with the changing of administrations, they've essentially peter out into irrelevancy

The Tea Party didn't "peter out into irrelevancy", though, it assimilated into the mainstream party. While this did mean that it lost its unique identity and some of the stronger pushes they were making, it did effectively change the Republican party and move it away from loser issues like gay marriage and the war on drugs. It's not a coincidence that the Religious Right effectively lost all power and profile right around the time the Tea Party Republicans were quieting down as well. As well the Tea Party wasn't such a radical departure from current Republican doctrine, it was more about actually enforcing the ideals Republicans claim to believe in anyway.

The "New Congress" isn't going to manage that because their identity isn't tied to actual policies like the Tea Party's was, it's tied to defiance and rebellion. That is really all they were elected to do and all they have. If they assimilate they lose, because their hardcore base will see them as sellouts. If they don't assimilate they lose, because their own party will stonewall them and push them out. As well, the things they're advocating... open socialism, inflicting brutal lifestyle changes via environmental regulation, open antagonism with Israel... are optics and labels that the Democrats have been desperately trying to avoid owning up to, let alone actually being held to.

She also retweeted Vox’s very own gay cuck Carlos Maza shilling for her Green Deal.

The obvious solution is to transition to a system that recently resulted in 99% of the population losing access to basic needs, and their entire lives becoming an emergency, while a handful of elites scamper away from the country with the entire nation's wealth.

But hey, how biased could a guy be who got stupid-rich by shuffling other people's money around and insulating himself from any losses therefrom?

I got you fam

I didn't watch the video but is the brains behind AOC 20 minutes of a tumbleweed. rolling and cricket chirps?

What's stopping for from running in one of the new districts which includes her area?

Her current district probably has a bunch of gentrified areas featuring a bunch of young semi-wealthy to wealthy hipsters just like her. They redistrict to more evenly divide it between that sort and actual adults, she'll go down in flames to whatever more seasoned Democrat is already in office for the current district she'd run in.

Haha, horseteeth is bashing the New Deal for apparently only helping wypipo, despite her beloved Green New Deal being named after it and fact it formed the basis of America's welfare state, and then went on to say Reagan's welfare queen neologism was dog whistle about big black woman, even though the term was used years before, originally describing a white woman named Linda Taylor.
