Honestly, the gig isn't that bad. It pays well, and once you realize that you can't be fired, your life becomes 90% less stressful. Most devs only get walked over because they let themselves be. I feel like I have to remind my coworkers weekly that they have nothing to fear, they don't owe the company anything, and that the field has nearly zero unemployment. Unionization isn't going to work because the industry also essentially forces everyone but COBOL developers out by age 50, and no one but IBM employees really seem to care.

While not in software, I entered another line of work, 16+ years ago that's kinda the same. Longest I've been unemployed was 46 minutes.

Yes he's back on Twitter, this time scrounging up an extremely old, forgotten about account called "@AwfulOffice" (https://twitter.com/AwfulOffice) (http://archive.li/QL2fP). It was created back in the day to document the antics of what went on at the Something Awful offices and was abandoned at some point in 2012. I followed it many years ago when I was interested in SA and had completely forgotten about it myself until these tweets surfaced on my timeline just a few minutes ago. It's definitely Lowtax if the writing style is anything to go off of and boy is he mad.

LMO was working in some soft-skill diversity department. All the fruit loop feel good shit is actually put into practice for anyone who doesn't ship code as I understand it. If they actually don't like you they put you somewhere unimportant and freeze your progression till you get the hint or retire.

I snipped LMO's work history, but basically just living in the bay eats up 30k/yr of his new salary (in WI they owned a condo and paid a $500/mo mortgage, now they rent at something like 3k/mo.) I'll dig it up if I can find it, but he had bragged that he never once spent more than 40 hours a week at Epic.

Honestly, no matter how shitty Epic is, even a meager 70k, with copious time off, a periodic all expense paid sabbatical, and with what amounts to a guarantee that you won't get fired, have to travel, or even stay late would be a fucking amazing job to lock in for 5 or 6 years while having young kids. Wisconsin weather sucks, but the quality of life would be nice considering overall living costs, and of course, when your wife's mother gets inoperable bowel cancer, you can be there to help take care of her instead of moving 2000 miles away for titty surgery.

He was pretty clear that he primarily took the job because he wanted to rack up a bunch of surgeries on Apple's dime. Of course he blames his relatively modest salary on the fact that he's a "black" "lesbian" "woman" and not the fact that he seems like a nightmare to work with. He also constantly talks about some kind of insurmountable college-related debt that he's servicing. At this point I have to assume it's not student loans, and that he actually paid his 20k/yr tuition, rent, books and bills entirely with credit cards.

My favorite LMO moment was when he talked about how terrified he was about being black around police. I actually buy that he has some African ancestry due to his facial features but no one is going to think of him as mixed-race unless they're told beforehand. I remember seeing a photo of him pre-transition and he actually had dirty blond hair, but I couldn't find it on GIS.

Ahahaha Lowtax is poor and gay. He talks about how he just wants enough money to get by and no more and at the same time bought a flashy car, a McMansion and expensive shit he didn't need like a PS90 when he had an influx of it. If you want money Tax Man you have to work, but now you're completely unemployable. Funny enough if he'd just gotten a normal job like anybody else 10 years ago when his empire started to crumble, his employer's insurance would have made all this shit so much easier.

But between Federal & State taxes, he's looking at about 7K a month, and at least half of that will be going to rent. That doesn't factor in CA's insurance rates (highest in the nation), but still probably gives him 20K a year in straight cash to play with.
