Like Lolita was never intended to be a legit romance novel. The beginning is supposed to mimic extreme pseudo art of people like Sade while the second half is Humbert's true uncaring and abusive personality shows through his cliche romantic allusions and faux intellectual mask. Humbert's lust is never shown as true love as he constantly talks about how plain and awful Dolores's (Lolita's real name) personality is and how he only cares about her sexually. It's quite telling most people never finish the book past the second half when it really drops any illusions it would ever be a romance or pornographic book.

So in conclusion this person probably doesn't actually care about reading and the few books they read are too seem woke and smart. Basically just what Nabokov would call a philistine.

Well, if someone tells you Lolita is their favorite erotic novel, then maybe the woman would be right and you should get the hell out of there.

I’m not familiar with the show, but was the racial segregation a result of being super-woke or was it some kind of weird hypocritical misconduct in the same vein of being a sex pest?

There was a two-person black writing team that had their own office. A new writer that happened to be black got hired, only desk space available was with the other two so they stuck him in there. Original two start screaming about segregation, probably butthurt about having to share their private office.

I'm gay and I sometimes take a look at subreddits like r/lgbt and r/ainbow, and they ALWAYS accuse gay men of not caring enough about trans people, or hating trans people... but then along came a post about how Afghanistan (or some other middle east shithole) is accepting towards trans people, and they're celebrating, saying Afghanistan is more LGBTQRSTUVWXYZ friendly than the USA... completely ignoring the fact that they still execute gay people, and how gay people are pressured to become trans so they're not "gay" anymore. Another post was a bar graph showing how gay men are by far more likely to be victims of violent hate crimes, and every single comment was "who cares, what about trans people? this is trans erasure!" or some shit.
Oh, they also think gay men who don't act femmy have "internalized homophobia", and being attracted to masculine men is "misogyny".

The emphasis seems to have shifted at some point from society frowning at minorities or individuals being the specific butt of a joke to any joke about a minority at all being off limits. It’s fundamentalist thinking and it misses the whole point of what PC was supposed to be about. It was supposed to stop people casually denigrating individuals or races/groups. But when you crack that mother in law joke, it’s a universally recognised trope even if you couch it in terms of a specific ethnicity. It’s funny because it speaks to a universal experience that transcends cultures. To read it as a dig against the minority you used in the joke is to misunderstand it completely.

Recently I got into a conversation with someone about how the statue of liberty will be black on some coin soon(?) and I would up asking if lady liberty could also be a man. I think they're both very toxic towards each other. Both Depp and Amber.
But people immediately believed Depp because you know. But the allegations and Amber being just as batshit insane has been known for a while. I think ppl didn't believe them simply because there are people who actually don't believe that both members of a couple can be abusive towards each other. Plus Amber is much younger than him.

Every time a minority role is now involved, now someone ALWAYS has to make a joke about Scarlett Johansson being "perfect" for the role. Because she has "experience" taking roles from minorities. I saw comments when a Selena picture was being announced, when Mulan was cast, then that Queen singer, and now and now an Aretha Franklin biopic.

Doesn't it get boring at this point? I've seen people (who've now deleted their comments/threads/whatever) who were told to "lighten up" for simply stating that the joke was boring. But heaven knows that if a minority takes a white characters role, any joke on the double standards and hypocrisy can't be brought up.

And let's just gloss over the fact that actual Japanese people didn't give two fucks about an American studio casting an American to play a cyborg that had like purple/blue eyes and very pale skin. Or that the "transman" she was playing was more than likely just a butch lesbian.
