Bigot Brigade Something Awful and Friends - The roller-coaster train-wreck embarrassing downfall of a Web 1.0 giant and its tick offspring like from Cloverfield

This is also after he fundraised a bunch of money for a Xenforo migration (I think it was 50k?) that never happened.
Should have offered all that dosh to @Null to make SA functional. You know a guy with a proven public track record of running a modern forum. The SA forums have remained exactly as I remember them in 2005 which is nuts for a paid forum.

I never got the idea of charging for a forum. I lurked here for months before I started posting because it's more enjoyable understanding the culture and community of a site and helps you add to discussions. Even a 30 day free trial I don't think is long enough because you probably should lurk longer than that before joining this sort of community; but then again we have a big dummy who was an abject failure as a community manager, abject failure at website administration, and paints his idiotic failure to cash in on his website as some sort of noble stand for what's right.

I had no problem paying $10. At least it did keep out a lot of the white noise idiocy. You could always browse many of the main SA forums for free, with banner ads, just not post.

I’ve donated more than $10 to this site because it provides a service I enjoy using it. I pay $10 to see a two hour movie or cover for a shitty band at a bar, but SA and KF provided me with hundreds of hours of better entertainment for the same admission price.

Serious question how do you give money to the Farms? It's not very obvious and though I hate pay pigging for websites I wouldn't mind throwing a few shekels Dear Leader's way because this site and the stream VODs really do entertain me.

I seriously admire that Null claims he only needs $2000 a month to keep this wonderful circus rolling.

There was a bit torrent subform that moved and became the washer dyer maintence association
Or wmda.biz the paywall helped keep people protected till it got too popular then some home grown video called uncle fucker lead to it getting shut down.

Then you had people paying for guilds and lets plays. There was goon cons where lowtax cucked a goon, got a wife and if he had just ran thr forum from his basement and not the SA clubhouse with shmorky he d have more money not to mention if he just got a part time job.

Rip in pepperoni SA. Just remember that before you die, you're partially reasonable for 4chan's existence.

In a very big way its almost entirely FYAD's fault. A lot of the early creators of 4chan were guys from the SA Anime forum who would roll in to FYAD in a large group and become IK's by throwing off the IK contests and take over it for a week at a time and make threads calling out and openly mocking FYAD regulars who were also mods and admins. So a bunch of FYAD posters managed to get Fistgirl and her cuck to convince Lowtax that all the anime guys wee pedophiles and have them all banned for posting about some anime about some titty demon school girl thing and mass perma-banning them all at once. They left to create 4chan, Fistgirl created Ozma and the catlady legacy

I went back 20 pages looking for these caps and couldn't find them so forgive me if they're old.

TL;DR: Lowtax says he's bankrupt.

I think what frustrates me about these posts is that (1) you absolutely have no excuse for not running a business as a business if you want said business to support you, and (2) if you don't expect a business to support you you should be working. It's not like Lowtax has my reputation where a conventional job is impossible for him. He could easily just work and support the site off that. I can't imagine SA has the overhead that KF does, and the KF has most of its overhead simply due to how much money I need to pay to grease up multiple levels of Internet infrastructure to get people to let me host what I want. I pay fees that are usually burdened on entire hosting companies to keep the site up, and I manage it without money from the site, not because I don't think the site could pay for itself, but because it's very very difficult to get the support mechanisms in place to allow it to.

Like a website either has to be a business or it has to be a labor of love and your business is something else. You can't have it both ways.

Edit: And this note is weak. His message should be clear and free of the fanciful and comedic language he always employs.
"I am bankrupt. Something Awful is at risk of imminent closure. We need to find a way to make this work or I can't do it anymore. What do you suggest?"
That's your post.

This is the imminent slope he's been on since he had to shell the office he never needed in the first place. It's really no surprise to me that it's come to this for him, between his own incompetence, his mind numbing arrogance, incompetence, inability to delegate to a proper programmer who won't hold your site hostage from you, incompetence, inability to learn how to program himself, incompetence, alcoholism, limiting the scope of his money intake to a single upfront fee, incompetence, fostering an insular e-culture of lashing out at everyone outside their site who looks at them wrong, ect. he has been beelining for this conclusion for years by skeeting by on the bare minimum of anything, letting SJWs police his forum, banning real users for petty offenses, and investing only as much effort as it takes for the effort to defeat its own purpose so he has an excuse to never try again and ultimately leaving his website as much of an outdated ramshackle piece of shit as possible in the wake of it all.

Lowtax is to websites what Spoony is to reviews, even Moot didn't let his situation get that bad.

$2400 of that is a one-off donation from Abe and other people have also used Patreon to make one-off donations. We don't know how much has been donated through the SA website itself. People are urging Lowtax to set up a GFM for the medical bills.

I assume $100,000+ a year is an income a family can get by on in Bumfuck, Missouri, but the big danger is going to be Lowtax treating it like it's guaranteed. It will be interesting to track the Patreon over the next 6-12 months.

How does this faggot make 12k a month and go broke? I know that the numbers are fudged since it's Patreon, but that's still at least four new used cars every month.

He was getting around $2000 a month from Patreon before this latest round of e-begging.

We don't know exactly what he makes from the forums, but we know that he does make a profit from them - they cost about as third as much to run as they bring in.

What I find amusing is that despite GBS being regarded as the cesspool of SA, it's where his e-begging campaigns always gather steam.

Until he once again forgets to estimated taxes, leases a new GTR, then get buttslammed (again) by the IRS & Missouri, so he'll come begging to the forums (Again) to keep them from becoming state property.
