Weeb Wars / AnimeGate / #KickVic / #IStandWithVic / #vickicksback - General Discussion Thread

Actually wait, I remember something. In high school, I would hang out with a friend and we'd go out to the mall and other places at times, and she had a group of friends I think she met through cons or something who'd we meet up with. And they all had one thing in common: They were hyperactive fujoshi who obsessed over InuYasha, Hetalia, and Fullmetal Alchemist, with the occasional talk of CLAMP and Fruits Basket and just whatever was popular in anime circles that year. Weirdly enough, my friend was actually level-headed about it, she sperged about yaoi sometimes, but she never acted like the "rotten woman" you'd hear about all the time--but maybe she was smart enough to restrain herself around people, I don't know, haven't talked to her in years.

But anyway, I would hear more about their love for FMA and Edward Elric than for Sesshomaru, or even for Germany and Prussia and England and whoever else. In general they loved the show and highly recommended it to me, but their obsession with it kept me from watching it for years because as cool as it sounded, their sperging made it sound girlier and gayer than it is. Still, though, they really loved the series, and while they never told me their con stories, I have no doubt in my mind that at least one of them (particularly the one who would carry around an Edward plushie on her person and pantomime his movements and spouted out trivia about him, she was that much of a fangirl) got to meet Vic and were extremely happy about it.

A part of me is optimistic they didn't drink the kool-aid and have straightened out/gotten smarter about their love for anime (if they still do), but it'd be a bit crazy, if not impractical, if any of them have turned their backs on their favorite voice-actor this past decade for reasons we've seen come out. I dunno, I wonder exactly what the one thread is that's tying everyone who's been hating Vic together outside of being fujoshi ex-fangirls who appear to have a disdain for religion.

I think Tatum is probably the best actor on MHA. But that's not hard seeing how embarassing the rest of them is compared to the original version.
Aside from him defending Vic from homophobia claims. (The video has been posted a bit earlier in this thread.) I remember other interviews where he talked positively about him. Those must've been from around when FMA:B came out.

Honestly I think something got fed to him late last year that he decided to suddenly trash him. Probably from a certain "friend" of his, who likes to act like a crazy person on twitter. But what texan voice actor doesn't these day, am I right?

Oh, so it wasn't a one-time thing, then? I remember seeing a video of him recording a voicemail for someone; guess it's a special request, but the fact he doesn't charge extra for it is really sweet.

Speaking of voicemail requests:
(This was the video I was thinking of, I think, everything's getting buried by this drama.)

He literally seems like the most harmless and polite person ever when you see videos of him. Watching that voicemail clip and trying to reconcile that person with the one the accusations are trying to portray him as just does not compute.

I'll never understand the need to pose like a gaping moron when taking a picture.

It's something chimpanzees do to show a dominant member of their group that they're not a threat.

https://theunboundedspirit.com/smiling-a-submission-signal/

In soyboy communication, it basically serves the same purpose. "Hey! I'm non-threatening! I'm one of the good ones!"

"I love it when cosplay thots get all moralistic about sex and sexuality. You know they're the people that keep the obnoxious yaoi sellers in business. "

The only kind of sexuality that SJWs condemn is sexual signalling that appeals to Hetero men. Their whole schtick is boosting female and LGBT sexual freedom, while limiting hetero white (and sometimes black male) sexual freedom. Pretty Boys who bump dicks are "safer" and more pure-hearted than those nasty, rugged, unabashedly masculine men who fuck any woman they want and won't return her calls (which is pretty much basically the same as rape, don'cha know...)

Seriously, as we see more and more anecdotal evidence via video of how he interacts with people it makes less and less sense that someone would try to stifle or put a lid on him. I'm sure there are people who don't enjoy the banter or hugginess, but WTF are they doing waiting on a line for however long to interact with the man? It makes me cry to think about the world our kids will inherit if these people dictate the future.

I remember having a couple of friends like this in school as well, I know the feeling of being put off by anime due to someones nonstop sperging about over dumb things all the time. I remember one year at a local convention I was going to see Vic but the line was massive so I saw sabat that day, wish I took the time to meet Vic since he was sadly dropped from said con this year supposedly. I also remember encountering some fushoshi at the same con, some were normal people to talk to, others were rather creepy if you got hem started on something.

It makes me curious what the con will be like this year in the midst of all the controversy, I wouldn't be surprised to see some #kickvic people making a stink about #istandwithvic people who attend.

One of the noted examples in terms of Funimation was when it came time for dubbing the Android/Cell arc for Kai and a certain Dameon Clarke (Cell) has moved into being a union actor working on projects like Borderlands as Handsome Jack

the Borderlands games' voice recordings are done in Texas too(the cast is comprised of Funimation regulars) so it can't be union either.Sometimes Dameon Clarke goes by fake names in non-union works(he also used the Alan Smithee name for Rolento in Ultra Street Fighter IV)but sometimes he doesn't even bother(like the more recent Dragon Ball games)

People are mocking Ron as a soy boy and what does he do? Does an open mouthed selfie with a chocolate cocktail.

That's J Michael Tatum and his undergrad looking fiancee. He likes em looking young for some reason. Apparently his fiancee is also a VA. Two guesses as to how he got in the business (taking a page from Hope Chapman I imagine)

Holy shit I didn't think anyone unironically liked the YGO Arc V and Zexal dubs. At least the GX dub is fun because the VAs audibly give up once they realize just how goddamn goofy the series got and the localization team got very self aware.

Question for Kiwis who go to cons; have you heard anything about this guy? Anything at all? I go to cons pretty often, including ones that have hosted Vic and have heard nothing on the grape vine.
I stopped going to cons around 2012, but remember hearing random vague "I've heard a lot of things about him" type things since the later 00s maybe?
Any time I've seen him irl I got a major "I used to be gay but then I prayed and Jesus made me straight and now I'm just SU~PER!" vibe off him, like that gay conversion therapy episode of South Park.

God yes. I have never watch any videos of him, but even from the photos, I thought he was gay. I chalked it up to just being a California pretty boy.

Is anyone else experiencing problems with the YT search filter when inputing 'Istandwithvic' and 'Vickicksback'? Started around the same time Hero got blitzed.
Its been really shit as of late before that. Trying to filter videos for the upload date sometimes doesn't even bother to work.

From the thread on the NZ shooter: https://archive.fo/SsXdL

In order to prevent people from finding non-approved information, discussion, or opinion on the event, they intentionally broke the search functionality on Youtube.

The fiance is also on MHA as Hawks who has yet to make an appearance on the dub side of things. It makes me sad how exceptional the MHA dub VAs are because I don't think the dub unwatchably bad.
