Weeb Wars / AnimeGate / #KickVic / #IStandWithVic / #vickicksback - General Discussion Thread

I personally wouldn't count liking or retweets (or even generic solidarity/optimistic tweets), like Davis Wald's or Yuri Lownethal's as being on the Marchi/Rial side. At worst I see it as friendly IFF "look guys I'm on your side please don't hurt me." It's also the safer position, since if Vic loses, they were on the right side to begin with, and if Vic wins they can just say they felt pressured into giving nonanswers. Doubly so if Nick's information that someone high up in the industry strongarming them is true.

I will take this into consideration for the next batch. There is a list of VAs that I want to search through for any #kickvic statements or in support of the Main Cast.

What gets me how small the community of professional internet spergs is. Of the Billions of people on this earth, there is a short list of a few dozen "people" that are able to cause an inordinate amount of drama in entire industries related to pop culture. Star Wars, Comics, movies, television generally, tabletop, cards, video games and now anime. The only common thread is that they are all escapist entertainments of some sort. And whenever something crops the exact same people as the last spat of drama either started it, or signal boost it.

Social Media was a mistake, its given a platform to a tiny cabal of narcissistic sociopaths on a crusade to change the culture of western civilization, and the most galling thing of all is companies who should damn well know better listen to these speds rather then the overwhelming majority of their customer base that does not freak out on twitter and just wants to play video games.

Don’t get too autistic about it. They are allowed to have an opinion based on information they have been given by others. It doesn’t make them right or wrong. So long as they aren’t actively sperging about things better to just leave them alone. There is no legitimate reason to dig into every voice actor out there to determine their most granular opinions on these things. Leave them alone. If you don’t know their clearly expressed opinion or feelings on the situation because they have been raging twitter dickweasels then walk away. Don’t be the obsessive compulsive autistic fan with no boundariesthat they always accuse us of being. Nobody owes you or us anything with regards to their personal opinions or private interactions. If you have to dig to find their opinion on Vic, or analyze twitter “likes” you’ve gone to far. Give it a rest.

Josh Grelle was once a guest at a con I staffed at and the one thing I remember from his time here was that he charged obscene amounts of cash for autographs and photos- something like forty dollars for a few autographs. I'm not super into the con scene but I'm pretty damn sure those are the things you give out for free, or at least allow for the first signing to be a freebe.

So, I have to ask:
Have we taken inventory of all the voice actors who have made #kickvic statements?
I can't find the link to the exact tweet. Could have been in a reply to a Monica tweet early on but Chris Rager is definitely a #kickvic. Said something to the effect of "Yeah, that pompous asshole got what he deserved!" or some shit.

At this point, you might as well say any Texas VA associated with Dragon Ball is a #kickvic.

Also god fucking dammit Blum. Just... Fuck.

Some VAs have freebie signing options for small prints while for larger prints they have at their table they will charge a fee for. I got an autograph of a large print of Caesar Zeppeli from Bryce Papenbrook. His explanation was that he had commissioned the art specifically from an artist for the con that I was attending.

4chan literally just decided one day to make it a "white supremacist" symbol to see how many stupid people would believe it, and stupid people fell for it in droves. Even when they're told this and it's proven to them, they're so flabbergastingly stupid they'll insist it still really is a white supremacist symbol.

Remember when the Coast Guard member got removed from his duties for that "offensive" gesture on television?

I understand your concerns. There is a line that should not be crossed and I am trying not to cross it. At the same, its fair game if anyone of them says anything close to defamation.
Let's use these tweets by Jamie McGonnigal as an example.
He clearly thinks "without zero question" Vic is a sexual predator.
Or, even better, a SERIAL sexual predator:
Now, does this opinion of his count as McGonnigal being a "raging twitter dickweasal" or would that count as defamation?

It means he is repeating what he has been told, and basing his judgement on that. He’s not a Primary source of any defamation, rather he is an example of the damage that was caused by said defamation.

Yeah, you only do that if you're like, William Shatner or Lou Ferrigno, and they charge usually around $80. Even then I'm sure if you get on their good side they'll reduce it down to $40, and that's for purpose of not exhausting themselves and being taken advantage of. I can see big name celebrities charging fees and make it work. Josh Grelle.... I don't even know what he was in.

I seem to recall Crispin Freeman was charging autograph fees at some point.

It's not entirely unheard of, but I agree its a bit silly.

Now, appearance fees are another matter... cons have been charged for those as a matter of course by anybody who has a agent. And there's a good case to be made why they should.

Most conventions I've been to have their key guest charge $40-80 for autograph items, depending on the size and quantity (the most I saw was 10 items, and they had to be bought at the artist's booth). Mind you, the most I saw was for George Takaei, and he was charging about $100 for a photo with him and an autograph. The cheapest I've ever seen was Greg Ayers, who just wanted $5 for a CD of his DJ set that he spent all weekend burning on to CD-Rs.

The titular character in Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple.
Interestingly, he took over Scott Freeman's role in High School DxD.

Small update that Ron Soye got a letter to not delete anything about Vic and is "happy to comply :)"

It's good to know that the wheels (of justice) are indeed moving. I'm kinda surprised if he didn't get a retraction request, thought maybe he didn't personally say anything defamatory ...or he's not being sued, just deposed/audited. As Nick's pointed out, he's going to be quite the fun witness without spousal privilege.

Edit: Anybody know how long Monica and Soye have been cohabitating? If they claim common-law marriage and can back it up, that might be a speedbump on the road.

He might've received the retraction request, then the notice to preserve evidence or whatever that's called in the span of a few days. I'm betting the retraction request came around the time he got sick.

Basically this. Autograph prices tend to be a sliding scale depending on who exactly the person is. I've gotten some for free but most others charged from $20-$40. Sometimes getting a photo with them actually costs less. A general rule among VAs is that, if you want them to sign something you already own, it's free but otherwise you have to pay. It's something you (sadly) come to expect.

I met Josh Grelle back in 2014, and at the time he didn't charge anything. Neither did Vic when I met him.
