I was talking to @xenomorph yesterday and I used nearly this exact phrasing. As desperately as AL needs help even if she was in a facility (ignoring all the reasons it would fail) it wouldn’t differ much from her days now. Eat, color, watch tv, sleep. She’s unintentionally put herself into a psych hospital minus you know, the treatment and doctors. She’s in her own personal nursing home biding her time until she either dies or has a medical emergency and is taken to the hospital. I’m sure she thinks she can catfish a new victim in a better state, the cognitive dissonance is strong in that one.I've seen residential psych care places plopped in the middle of nowhere that basically function as a nursing home for the severely mentally ill; in order to stay open, they have to "grade" residents on their "basic living skills," or BLS. Can they function on their own? No? Write that shit down & send it to Medicaid, this person needs to stay in treatment.
I only mention this because I had a friend who would always joke that BLS really stood for "basically lazing & sleeping." You've got burnt-out schizophrenics in the middle of nowhere, completely isolated from everything & zonked out on Bodhi Schofield-levels of hardcore psych drugs. What else are they supposed to do all day?
So that's my answer. Basically lazing & sleeping, except Amberlynn doesn't have an excuse.
And I very much agree with @Barbarella ’s statement as well. Even if she is a bitch an intentionally wasted life is still pityable at best and disgusting at worst, I’m sure you can imagine where my opinion falls on that spectrum. It’s not just that her entire life surrounds her ‘weight loss’ which is a passive activity for most people while they focus on school or careers. It can be hard to swallow thinking of all the people who never had the chance to turn 28 for whatever reason that caused their passing. I don’t want to get too OT so I’ll stop it there, though it does make me curious how much of her has just given up entirely or if she’s still pretending (and really believing) she can bounce back. If it’s the latter I’m sure it’s a comforting lie she tells herself every so often before seeing how many pork rinds she can stuff in her mouth at once.
