Oh, the management beheading over that would be delicious.

"Let me get this straight: Billions of dollars have been made on the back of Fortnite in the last year and some sperg from Minnesota surprise streaming on our platform about a TV show that last aired nearly 40 years ago pulling in more viewers than our actual Fortnite streamers? What the fuck are you doing in that office all day, son?"

I'd be inclined to agree with you, but Mixer is just a drop in the ocean of failures going on at Microsoft over the last few years. They have a lot of problems to fix before they even begin to approach Mixer. Mixer is in such a bad state Microsoft doesn't even run external ads on it (or cannot find anyone to buy ad space there, as opposed to twitch). If Mixer wasn't owned by Microsoft (or any other huge company that can't be associated with the Metokur Morning Show) Metokur looking for a platform would be a god send.

Additionally, in the interest of fairness, Jim's show works pretty well on a monday morning, but fortnite streams are usually a night time affair.

tbf, MS has made a lot of bold steps in trying to expand the scope of their product line, although a lot of the big steps have failed dramatically. I suspect Mixer will as well. I still prefer modern "let's try something different" MS over "what would oracle do?" MS from the 2000s.

They make a lot of bold steps, but those steps are stupid.

Mixer is great, in theory. If they made video game console streaming easier, more people would do it. If more people do it, more people would watch and they could build a platform around it. But, it's restricted to the XBOX 1, even though only ~30% of "gamers" even own one (and that isn't even considering how many people own one but don't use it). That's cutting out nearly 70% of your console audience, for virtually no reason.

They could push Mixer if XBOX had a majority market share, but they wasted that trying to push really god awful things with the XBOX 1 launch instead of trying to find things people liked. If XBOX 1 didn't launch with all the anti-consumer shit it did (always online, forced Kinect, no game sharing/used games) and now instead of being 50% of the cosole market, they're ~25% of it. If XBOX 1 instead just launched with Mixer integration, we would probably be having a much different conversation about Mixer and it's audience size.

I agree that most of their decisions are stupid but they haven't driven the company into the ground so in general I say more power to them for it.

I get the impression that Microsoft is starting to realize that the XBox is really just a cheap gaming PC, perfect for people who don't want to deal with graphics cards or any of the other particulars of PC gaming, and why should they really care if you're gaming on their console or a PC running Windows?

That's fine if it's the case, but they haven't made a great case as to why you would buy an a XBOX 1 over a Playstation 4 or Nintendo Switch. It has a much smaller exclusive library and install base than the PS4, and has none of the portability or first party titles of the Switch. They also cannibalized their market share of people who own a PC but would also like to play formerly xbox console-only games (Halo, Gears of War).

Microsoft also cares pretty deeply about which system you play games on. Microsoft sells tons of software for the Xbox and you literally cannot buy/play games without Microsoft being involved in some way on their platform. PC gaming on the other hand is typically done through Steam, which Microsoft has no involvement in. There a lot of stores (GOG, GMG, Epic Game Store, Uplay, Origin) before you get to the MS store so I would imagine they would much prefer you to play on the Xbox, because it means more revenue for them.

Either way - I don't think we'll be seeing Jim on Mixer any time soon. (unless he's doing a "banned from platform" speedrun).

Not related to Jim, but I wanted to address this because I disagree with you.

Maybe the audience would have been larger like you mentioned, but I doubt it. Microsoft's misstep was trying to sell a jack-of-all-trades entertainment device to gamers, while at the same time lacking the capacity as a first-party developer to differentiate their hardware from Sony's via software offerings. Microsoft must cultivate a first-party studio that is competent, they can't keep trying to buy up success after the fact. You don't excel in this industry if you can't make good games that people want to play.

And right now Sony's got a stable of excellent developers and Nintendo has a fucking vault of talent. What does Microsoft have? They have games you can get on the PS4, Halo, and a bunch of games you used to love on Nintendo 64.

After seeing that "A Chat with Mister Metokur," I'm wondering if he showed his hand a little and he runs some other popular YouTube channel(s) that bring in a more consistent income and the actual "Jim" content is just a hobby. He was talking about how easy it is to get subscribers with top ten/listicle-type content; maybe he was speaking from experience. (Given his distinctive voice, that content would have to be either voiceless or using farmed-out VO work…)
He has said he does other channels under different names. He also said that most of the time people don't recognize his voice when he does it. I've speculated this is one reason why Jim hasn't upgraded his microphone since it'd be an immediate tell if he also does more professional voice work on the side.

I don't disagree with you on those points.

But, what I was saying is that, at launch, if Xbox 1 didn't have the nonsense it had (forced online, no used games, always online, etc) and instead focused on things that could arguably be good (Mixer/Beam integration, PC Crossplay) it would have helped substantially - for the Xbox's market share and for Mixer's content creators and audience.

Microsoft's mis-step wasn't a jack-of-all-trades entertainment device, it was literally alienating anyone who could be excited for their new console.

  • Do you have bad/no internet? Fuck you.
  • Do you have an issue with an always on device in your house with a microphone/camera? Fuck you.
  • Do you like borrowing games from friends and/or buying used? Fuck you.
  • Do you work in a used game store and like having a job? Fuck you.
  • Do you like when a company pays "influencers" under the table? Fuck you.
  • Are you a company (Gamestop, Amazon, Best Buy, etc) who sells second hand games and acts as a marketing partner for Microsoft? Fuck you.
  • Are you a Japanese developer who wants people in your country to be able to play games for the Xbox? Fuck you. (This was a real big fuck you, by the way - they fucking called Japan a Tier 2 country during a public conference).
  • Do you like backwards compatability/have a large 360 library? Fuck you.

We know in 2019 that Xbox 1 has a shitty exclusive library, but we didn't know that was going to be the case in 2013 and coming off how hot the Xbox 360 was there wasn't a reason to think they would lose momentum unless they really shot themselves in the foot (which they did). They never had a great relationship with Japanese developers/audience but they really, really should have not declared Japan a "Tier 2" country and it really would have not taken a lot of consoles to move Japan to Tier 1.

I don't think anyone cares about the "all in one" stuff as long as the console does what people wanted it to do. Microsoft could have focused on things people would like (like Beam/Mixer) instead of all the anti-consumer stuff they wound up focusing on and if they did they would have had a more attractive console. If they got Mixer working in 2013 instead of 2016 they would have a much larger footprint there too.

But I'm going to stop replying to these, not trying to make it the xbox thread.

I think that was their old way of looking at it, but as subscription services get more popular, the hardware will start to take a backseat. From a PC gaming perspective though, it's important to them because PC gaming, unless you want to deal with getting stuff to run on Linux, means you have to use Windows. The most important thing to Microsoft regarding Windows is that they maintain "network effect" dominance there, even if they don't directly make a dime off of the game purchase. It's the same reason they don't really give a shit about pirating Windows keys, since it maintains their "network effect."

Well said. Network effects and network goods are anything whose value increases the more people utilize that service.

Network effects and network goods explains the pattern of social media companies as pseudo-monopolies and how they can fall so hard when a competitor reaches enough critical mass (think Myspace and Facebook); the role of popularity in further increasing the relevance of a song, or a livestream or what have you (the no. of song downloads or its place on the Top 40 songs of the month seems to have an effect in making people more interested in listening to it for example); why Microsoft Office is dominant despite there being more optimal applications for Academic paper and book writing like LaTex and why most freeware like say OpenOffice or LibreOffice have options to save your file in a .doc despite the option of using its more native .odt (this is where Network Effects can 'lock in' technically inferior options). One of the most interesting things about Network Effects and Network Goods is how their relevance can just drop off one day and they'd be ruined just like that.

This lends credence to the "Jim is Dr. Murdoch" rumor.

The original logo resembled a deformed radiation warning symbol. Controversially, the original name for the DirectX project was the "Manhattan Project", a reference to the US nuclear weapons initiative. Alex St. John, head of Microsoft DirectX evangelism at the time, claims[11] that the connotation of the ultimate outcome of the Manhattan Project (the nuclear bombing of Japan) is intentional, and that DirectX and its sister project, the Xbox (which shares a similar logo), were meant to displace Japanese videogame-makers from their dominance of the video-game industry.[12] However, Microsoft publicly denies this account, instead claiming that the logo is merely an artistic design.[12]

I'm sure tons of us pay attention to the commentary community.
To laugh at their autism of course, but that's still paying attention.

Maybe a bad example, but I think that's why nobody here notices most of the accounts if they exist.

Knowing nothing about the copystrike system, but making a guess from the amount of Jim audio available and the amount people think is undiscovered out there, would it be possible to take a few existing innocuous phrases like "I don't like that," "I agree," etc and run them through the copy claim system to see which channels google's matching turns up? No interest in actually doing this, mainly curious on an abstract problem solving level

So watching the sped dating stream again and I thought I would look up the participants. I got onto looking at the lollipop chainsaw cosplayer Casey Anne aka Vanity Fox and would you believe she’s a cosplay thot?

Her Facebook and Twitter contain the usual thing like patreon whoring and photo shoots cleverly hiding her gut.

Her 18+ patreon with a whopping 43 patrons.

She has had previous accounts under xLadieLuck and Casey Ann Cosplay both of which have been yeeted.

Edit: Just found her instagram
