Weeb Wars / AnimeGate / #KickVic / #IStandWithVic / #vickicksback - General Discussion Thread

Really makes you wonder how the hell Allison got a teaching job in Japan in the first place. She does not seem very well adjusted socially.
I guarantee you she isn't an established teacher and has a contract with something like the JET Program. With her degree from UH Manoa (which is actually a pretty good Japanese and Japan Studies program) she would be a shoe-in. But unlike other programs that have established partnerships in certain areas JET can pretty much drop you anywhere. You can end up in glorious Nippon paradise with full access to weeb stores, bumfuck nowhere, or a shitty Korean neighborhood full of racial tension. I've taught in Japan on a different less shitty program. It's not a hard job, any English speaking idiot can do it. Some teachers just have you read off a textbook and leave. You're just a human tape player.

I guarantee you her job isn't as wonderful and glamorous as she makes it out to be. It's a great learning experience for people who want to be ESL teachers but most "teaching English in Japan" kids are just idiot fujoshis and weebs with rich parents.

While I still want to say that Miles Luna is Iago after reading this post from earlier.
Going by these parameters, then your prime suspect is none other than Adam Sheehan.
Credentials:
  • (December 2004 – December 2011) Conventions and Events Manager at FUNimation Entertainment
  • (February 2010 – June 2015) Marketing Manager at FUNimation Entertainment
  • (June 2015 – January 2016) Senior Manager, Events at Crunchyroll
  • (January 2016 – Present) Director of Events at Crunchyroll and VRV

  • Hates Vic Mignogna
  • "Friends" with Todd Haberkorn. When Todd responded back to Jessie Pridemore, Sheehan threw him under the bus.
UPDATE: Corrected the dates of the positions he held.
I'm leaning toward Iago being Adam Sheehan, it makes more sense.

Someone else in the thread pointed out that Vic was brought on as Broly in the eighth DBZ movie when Funimation wanted a big-name actor instead. I hadn't heard of that story before, but I think it's pretty hilarious they wanted to try and get some famous actor as Broly when the character hardly spoke in the first place and just screams and grunts, for one thing, and Funimation I doubt was such a big-name studio at the time they were dubbing the film.

Toei, however, is veeeeeery controlling of their IPs, they get the final say in everything. For whatever reason, they chose Vic (and that was his first Funimation role, yes? Edward got him the fangirls)
Either Broly was his first role with Funimation or it was Bui and Ura Urashima from Yu Yu Hakusho. Both were dubbed the same year. If we want to go by which came out first in NA it was YuYu.

Edit:

Broly debuted: 08-26-2003
Ura Urashima's voice debuted: 05-01-2003
Bui's voice debuted: 05-22-2004

While I personally think Iago is someone like Sheehan like @Solo Wing Pixy theorizes, I kind of want to do some digging to see if Sean can be proven to be Iago. I doubt it, because he just doesn't have the kind of capital or position from what I can see to be Iago, but he has a history of bullying Kamehacon into canceling a guest with the threat of no-show, is extremely petty and defensive of Goku to the point where he's come into conflict in some way or another with every other prominent English Goku, and he fits the voice/appearance/poor relationships of Iago, and has flaunted his paystubs before.

Again, I don't actually think Sean is Iago, because I think it's a high-power exec and someone with some distance like Sheehan (meaning that the company Ty is threatening is Crunchyroll, who really has it coming anyway, and used to be partnered with Funimation) but it'd be funny if it were.

Eh. If you're just in it for the Weeb Wars stuff, tonight's probably a night you can safely sit out and not miss anything. Otherwise, there's no shame in just watching it tomorrow. Take it easy, my dude.
I made the Meyer v Waid thread, I'm not in this just for the Weeb Wars stuff.

Toei, however, is veeeeeery controlling of their IPs, they get the final say in everything. For whatever reason, they chose Vic (and that was his first Funimation role, yes? Edward got him the fangirls), and they pretty much set it in stone that Vic was to be the character. No one expected a new Broly movie to be made decades after the character was introduced, but I'm willing to bet Toei has a memory of an elephant when it comes to contracts or has someone who looks into the cast. Whether Sabat wanted the role of Broly for himself or to give it away to someone else because his hate-boner was too much for him to handle, Toei was there to breathe down their necks and they had to get Vic back since he still had a contract with them. Perhaps that was what the 2018 investigation was for in order to free up space for Broly so they could have an excuse to give to Toei and ask for permission to get a new actor, but nothing gets past Toei. Nothing.

Nick has said Toei knows what's currently going on. So if Sabat (or even Schemmel as theorized by @Allanon) is Iago and gets jail time like Ty is threatening/promising, they'll go apeshit. That energy's building as we speak.

Vic's first Funimation role was either Broly or Ura Urashima and from Yu Yu Hakusho.
Still, Chris Sabat still had to bring Vic back EACH time a Dragon Ball video game featured Broly.
I agree that Sabat may have seen this new Broly as an opportunity to wipe his hands of Vic.
That didn't happen (either because of Toei or Funimation higher-ups).
I'm sure a small number of international anime fans are watching this war with morbid curiosity, but does Toei know?
I'm not sure and if they did, I seriously hope they are not getting information from ANN's friends at the Japan Times.

So is he being sincere or sarcastic?
It's the voice of Buu who has been silent on this situation. Is Sabat running through a list of cronies or is this a backhanded compliment?

Buu's voice has liked kickvic comments before, and I think made rude comments on it before. So this is just him stupidly attacking Nick. I don't know why, though.

Someone just paid money to admit they went to Hot Topic. Stunning and Brave.
What got me is that that the employees were "triggering out" when the guy said that they support the #IStandWithVic movement after reading up on the whole deal. At least he left mid-sentence, that means he can still go over here and finish the job.

It's actually pretty simple, stupid movements attract stupid people and the "smart" people in said movements can herd the others like cattle.

If they hear of anything from ANN (somehow), they'd check into Funimation themselves and ask for confirmation. So I wouldn't worry about there being poor communication between them.

Rekieta introduces himself as a lawsplainer, so that comment is likely another shithead who thinks he'll get disbarred.
There are basically a countable number of times (zero) where someone complemented someone else by copying their words but changing the target.

Josh Martin? Josh Martin is total #kickvic and, I must say, he is quite prone to baited by trolls that its sad.
I posted a few:
Oh this is a good post, how did I miss this. I was remembering that Sun Wong was cucking for Monica & I wouldn't think any of the main players of TFS support Vic.
It might be easier to list VAs who have worked with Vic who support him or haven't said anything due to pressure.

Wait I just had a thought. Hypothetically if Iago is Adam Sheehan what if Igor is Miles Luna, they do both work at Crunchy Roll.
