Weeb Wars / AnimeGate / #KickVic / #IStandWithVic / #vickicksback - General Discussion Thread

going to speculate a bit, TFS seems like, while maybe a bit social justicy, they at least haven't gutted their common sense and rationale. Likely, they're waiting for the dust to settle legally before saying anything or taking a side. Especially since Kaiserneko is friends with sabat.
the funny thing is, regardless of if the above is true or not, when it all comes to a head, TFS will never get into the anime scene again unless they manage to convince the anime fans in japan to try to convince toei to pick them up because either they'll have to piss off sabat by saying what he did was bullshit and heinous, or they'll piss off the anime community by saying sabat did nothing wrong uwu.
either scenario is hilarious. you either get a grown man throwing a tantrum like a toddler or you get salt mines from weebs.

TFS has every reason to be extremely careful about this. If either Sabat or Funimation goes down they get turbo screwed, because Toei absolutely hates them already and only Funimation is shielding them from constantly getting kicked off youtube and legal threats over DBZA. Funimation is also their only way into voice acting proper, which they're very keen to get into since it pays the studio bills better than a patreon. However, if Sabat or Funimation stays in power despite the lawsuits and they speak out against one of those two entities, their good will goes down in flames.

The only way TeamFourStar gets to continue without getting ruined is if they stay vaguely on Sabat's side and Sabat/Funimation doesn't tank. It's sad, since they're not involved in this scandal at all, they're just pilot fish that Funimation stupidly jeopardized because someone decided Vic needed to be removed.

I'm seeing people so scared for the safety for those women at Kamehacon but i'm worried about Vic. With people who are obviously against him and those VA's who hate his guts, I feel like he's going to get assaulted

That'd be real dumb when Ty and the Amazons and lots of armed police men will be around.

Ty said there would be armed guards for Vic. So someone will be looking out for him but pretty sure that will get turned into guards for the fans.

They would have to be really fucking stu...goddammit. Since we got some crossover with CG, think Ya Boi would bodyguard? He's military, so he's probably tough.

IDK, maybe the best way for TFS to continue was to BTFO any lawsuit via parody or transformative work. It would have cost them a whole bunch of lawsuit money, but would the outcome be any different? They are being blackballed by Toei now, so whats the difference if they got blackballed after a lawsuit. If they won episodes may have been coming out at a faster rate converting to more money.

I know hindsight 20/20, lawsuits are expensive and they wanted to get into proper VA, but maybe they chose the wrong path.

Toei won't do shit because its a japanese company and they're a business first. true, they may try something the moment funimation goes down in flames, however the western anime community is far larger than japans anime community, and they'll give toei hell for touching TFS. since they prefer money, they'll back off.
unless the people running Toei are exceptional faggots and try to continually fuck with them despite community support and backlash. in that case, we'll see a timeline where Toei were faggots and not funimation and see it go down in flames as DB fans swear off Toei and pirate fucking everything.

A lot of execs in japan are old out of touch niggas, ones who cant be disrespected or something, i dont know, but i fully believe in the possibility they wont grasp how bad of an idea that is. also they've tried it before

not exactly. they do have one VA in their ring and its one of the more popular ones, the freiza VA. I recall he specifically tried to emulate the DBZA frieza because he liked it so much.
its just that Sabat has sway atm, more than the freiza VA. once the lawsuit is over, Sabat will lose that sway and the freiza one will become their in.

that was true 5 years ago, but not anymore. nintendo, old guard of "fuck the fans its our IP" has capitulated because they realized it lost them money fighting fanworks. they only do it now when they have a damn good reason, like with the metroid 2 fan remake (specifically, they were making one, noticed it, and nuked it so it wouldn't compete).
we also have to remember that they are cutthroat and will literally fire barely making it employees if it means making 5 more bucks a month.

You say that, but like you said lawsuits are expensive and Toei is huge, they could easily drag it out. Hell I don't think it would have even crossed their minds to crowdfund for the expenses since this seems to be a pretty new concept to pull online and they certainly didn't have the funds when Toei was really hammering the channel.

At the time they wouldn't have had lawsuit money, and it probably would have been tough to win that suit since they'd be dealing with Japanese laws while not being the licensed party to handle Dragonball.

Toei tries to take down TFS from Youtube on an almost monthly basis now. Funimation has vocally stated its support for TFS, has interceded for them dealing with Toei multiple times, has gotten them custom voices in Xenoverse and even had them dub over the Cell Games joke play during the World Tournament arc of DB Kai. Toei's response was to issue a demand that they immediately retract that clip and redub it with the normal voice actors and original script.

Basically, take away their shield and Toei will devour TFS like a baby deer that wandered away from the group.

True, it's possibly Ayers would still stan for them if Sabat were out of the way, assuming he ended up with more influence in that power vacuum. But if Funimation is crippled or if Toei takes its toys away from Funimation and awards it elsewhere, it's not a good outlook for TFS.

the funny thing is that funimation, by protecting TFS, has effectively protected Toei from the wrath of the western anime community. once funimation is gone? well lets just say there's no longer a stopgap.
now let's be real. how do you think Toei will respond when fans suddenly start shitting up their forums, mail bombing them, and pirating everything instead of paying for it?
my guess is the execs will have a massive tantrum and file suit, realize how agonizing for them it is to do it across the sea, give up because everything they've done has cost them money, and silently give up because they don't want to lose face, but also don't want to lose more money because they do have other japanese businessman, who we've established are cutthroat, a reason to call and ask for their money back.

I don't know the best way to word this.
I'm not trying to say that TFS did the wrong thing for their position at the time (the quote and post below is informative) my understanding was Toei started going after TFS hard around episode 20, after they had built a fan base. I wanted to provide a counter point, that in hindsight hiding under Sabat / Funimation umbrella may* not have been the best action to take, especially if Toei is still hunting them. I've seen a few ~300k transformative work lawsuits (e.g. H3H3, Sargon) but i don't doubt Toei could have dragged it longer and info about following Japanese law is new to me. As an outsider, my take probably looks exceptional to those more informed on the situation.

*Gigantic may there.

lol. What? That's beyond false. Japan accounts for over half the anime fandom. Second place is China, and then there's Taiwan and Korean. The US is at #5, and the other western countries are far below that. The west has zero authority to do something like that, let alone to Toei.

I know you love TFS and their abridged series, but you consider them way more important than they ever will be. They're nothing and have zero importance to the industry, especially in Japan.

So can I get a loose tldr of the stream?
Vic confirmed for KahmehaCon. Beard mellowed due to this good news. Beard, ALOD to be at the Con. Nick at AnimeMatsuri.
Beard pissed earlier due to other cons not adhering to contracts. Iago and Igor 90% confirmed to be involved in this.
Iago confirmed not Toye
Shane superchating in support of KamehaCon like a bitch (pls no sue).
@RodgerDodger got a unnamed shoutout from Beard for advising to look away from the rest of the farms.
Lots of laughing at blatant stupidity of dummies.

Toye is not Igor BUT his mortgage company may have been a sponsor at Kamahecon and he may have used that (aka pulling support) when they were trying to kickvic from said Con. Edit: And that may drag his workplace into these lawsuits if true.

The Amazons want to wear their skin and make goblets out of their skulls of Vics enemies (Like anyone doing the Sister of Battle picture of them should just change it to Khorne Berserkers at this point)

Blue Haired Whale is on archive everything list

I wouldn't say exceptional, more :optimistic:. Japan is far less friendly when it comes to fair use compared to the US which was part of why abridged series got slammed with strikes so often. Like roughly 10 years ago, which is around the time of episode 20, Japanese law outright said you couldn't redistribute any of their shit without permission. The laws have gotten a bit more lax and TFS probably could fight that battle now, but Toei really does not care for TFS and I wouldn't envy having to take on a titan that actively hates you.
