Weeb Wars / AnimeGate / #KickVic / #IStandWithVic / #vickicksback - General Discussion Thread

True fact: I did not realize until just a couple years ago that Bryan Cranston voiced Isamu Dyson in Macross+Plus. Which is one of the few Japanese cartoons I really, really dig.
Yea Macross Plus is my number one with Patlabor falling in second. My teenage self thought I was getting a movie with stompy robots, ended up with a Crime Noir/Detective movie with Stompy robots.

You know, it really just occured to me.
what if the entire dubbing industry is like this? is it possible that eventually the entire dubbing industry is dragged into this? were starting to see the targets pile up and I get a feeling this conspiracy may stretch beyond funimation.

know it's optimistic but can you imagine both japan's reaction and the weebs on twitter if the entire industry got outed as being an incestuous pit of lawbreakers?
Well, they did discuss on the stream that Legal People and Anime People rarely, if ever see any overlap. That contracts can be cancelled at anytime and the voice actors can't do much of anything because of the huge cost in fighting it in court.

true but what we're seeing is a culture changing moment. the entire dubbing industry could get burned down because a bunch of pissant VAs get angry when vic wins and make mockeries of their studios or hell do shit that causes further litigation.
basically, is it possible for a domino effect from this take down the entire industry, or is sleep deprivation finally making me go insane?

Lauren still isn't taking the news well

Well, if she wants to keep digging, only is going make any legal blowback she suffers worse.

Anyone else notice that while most of the other major players like Sabat have finally shut the hell up, she refuses to whatsoever?

Either she's a completely loose cannon or is too dumb to take the hint from the people she's whiteknighting.

is it possible she's Igor?

Whomever she might be, she's a blithering idiot regardless.

Actual lawyers are involved, all the bigger names she was supported have either wimped out or shut up, the evidence for her BS is getting weaker by the day, but she hasn't realized this hill is a very stupid one to die on.

There are two other things they miscalculated on that I was just thinking about watching Vic's GFM numbers go up.

They knew Vic had a fangirl army, but forgot that a lot of those fangirls started following him 10+ years ago when FMA came out. They're now grown women with incomes and money to toss his way.

They also didn't calculate Nick in. As funny as it was when Shane called him the leader and however much Nick might downplay his role, he was a real kink in their plans. He was someone with a voice and an audience that they had no leverage over, and the brains to know how to use both to effectively challenge their little twitter trial. They probably hate him more than Vic right now, but unlike Vic they can't hurt him.
And that is the absolute joy in all of this. Knowing these idiots are raging and want to get revenge on Nick but can literally do nothing to him haha. On the other hand nick keeps calling them cucks, soys and morons every other stream and if they are watching those they have to listen to it everyday ROFL plus not to forget the lovely superchats :story:

Its like that Shane stream when nick started reading all of the mean superchats and he coudln't say anything in reply instead just had to sit there and listen the whole butchering. Even more wonderful is that people are almost sure Iago is Sabat and probably has a lot of pride but even he while watching these streams has to sit through all of the insults ? without retaliating.

Lovely.

i just realized who you are and find myself chuckling.

as for her, meh. just trying to figure this out. if my thinkings right (ha, debatable) then some big actors at funimation are on the chopping block, but no execs. however, more and more VA's are turning up kickvic and if that's true, means they have a leg in the game.

if what i'm hypothesizing is right, then that means there's about to be a shortage of VA's and studio's filled with wanna-be's ready for their shot.

If enough of the Dub VA's are as spergy as we're seeing right now, all of the Japanese parent companies are going to put their feet up several asses to stop this from happening again. They don't need or want this shit near their anime

why I wondered before about the entire industry burning down. depending on how fucked everything turns out, japan may just decide to abandon dubbing altogether and go subbing only, which would be a bit sad (got a family member into anime but they vastly prefer dubs) but also funny as fuck to watch weebs cry.

Wouldn't weebs be happier if it was sub only since they japanese wannabes?

ever heard of subs vs dubs? yeah, that's not ironic. that's real. and its mostly in america.
wait subs vs dubs isn't ironic? probably due to me only really following jojo in terms of anime. I'm kinda surprised since a lot of those actors are considered iconic to their respective roles. like people might like Matthew Mercer as jotaro for example, but a lot of people just think Daisuke Ono's performance is perfection for the character. Maybe the debate is more prominent in other franchises though (such as, say dragon ball I assume is one of those properties). otherwise the only other one that might be a improvement over the original I could think of that's agreed on massively is Ghost Stories.

That's because the dub of Ghost Stories is pretty much an abridged series with notable voice actors in it.

that's the rube. from my perspective, anime is valid in both forms. look hard enough, you can find die-hards that literally wish death on the other side (dubbers wishing death on subbers). it's frankly funny as fuck to find one.

they mostly hang out in comments sections on youtube though.

It's funny, I liked the Patlabor movies OK (I was settling down with a family at that time and didn't really fully appreciate them, I will probably go back and watch them someday), and tried out the TV show afterward and man they are 100% different from each other. Didn't care for the TV show at all despite there being more action.
