Weeb Wars / AnimeGate / #KickVic / #IStandWithVic / #vickicksback - General Discussion Thread

I think Ty knows who Iago is and is probably playing with him. Like Iago could be in the denial phase, which is where Ty probably wants him. He's been doing this for a long time, this could be part of his strategy.
I think it's a pretty much a fact Ty knows who Iago is. Hence why he even uses the name Iago in the first place.

It's all mind games, and a little bone to throw out to Kiwifarms so the weaponized autism can sniff out more goodies.

Maybe Someone should start sniffing around Chris Sabat's and Adam Sheehan's social media and start looking for any examples of them talking about being rich.

It's not really just Ghibli though its Disney/Miramax being involved helps. PLus Disney likes to used already established actors in their stuff and VA as just additional voices usually

IIRC they used big name actors for the Ghibi films, partly due to politics dealing with Ghibi (who after watching Naasicia get wholesale raped in it's original US release, became draconian with how their films get released in the US).

Getting big name actors to voice the Ghibi films shows the studio they are treating the films as huge fucking deals (as they are with regards to Ghibi releases being akin to when Disney releases a new animated film; it's a huge fucking thing in Japan as far as Ghibi=Japanese Disney). It also helps Disney when it comes to getting the films shown in arthouse theaters since big name celebrity voice actors can serve as a draw to casuals who might not go see cartoons that are heavily Japanese-centric.

Regarding the union/nonunion VA thing I thought a lot of normal VAs had two names for that, like Cam Clarke / James Flinders.

And while we may like Macross Plus, Cranston may think more of "monster from Power Rangers" when looking back on his VA work.

Considering that PR in the west is a star maker, the same as Sentai/Kamen Rider/Ultraman, GARO, and other anime/live action projects in the East, being ashamed of that is hilarious and laughable.

Toku stans are the most concentrated font of brand dedicated loyalty and merch consumers in the known age demographic, beaten by nothing and followed by anime stans and general "acting" stans.

If Amy Jo Johnson, Jason David Frank, Johnny Young Bosch, Dan Southworth, Eka Darville, Rose McIver and countless other PR actors can then breakout and get bigger roles, commercials and work, if not become creators themselves, Cranston should sit down and have a talk with them about it.

That might be a shame issue, rather than a "YOU BROKE THE RULES" thing.

That's just my opinion/outlook, tho.

I ninja'd you on this topic. :P

Disney's now a part of the diversity push to find unknown talents that they can push into franchising, they use established actors for name recognition to bring people in and indirectly spotlight said new talent, which feeds back into clout, awards, and further recognition.

There's at least five of them at any moment for thirty years at this point. They should probably have a better CV than that mix of not-even-Hollywood-Squares (and the chick from the zombie show) if it's that much of a starmaking powerhouse.

We got another one announcing they're abandoning the con, and The Upset Aggregation is commenting and retweeting.

They do. That was my point. It's a union thing and not an embarrassment thing. This is evidenced by the fact few of them really give a shit that the names are eventually connected.

Rebecca Forstadt/Reba West explains it vaguely here:

Cranston might care way more because none of the VAs ever struck it as big as in Hollywood as he did, so if anybody is gonna get shit from SAG, it would undoubtedly be him. They do all sorts of crazy shit if it gets out you didn't kiss the ring.

I second YellowFlash eating Captain Manning's ass.
In YellowFlash's defense, he wasn't fully aware of Captain Manning's post; he just had someone superchat what Manning's post said. He (correctly) thinks the best thing to do to Ren is to ignore her, and his answer reflected that. I don't think it's fair to go in too hard on him for his split-second response in this case.
Hey guize, newfag here.

Looks like one of the #kickvic'ers think the person literally posting the same goddamn image from 2016 is fake news.

Are they really this desperate?
Welcome to the Farms. Remember to archive links you post. Thanks.
He's watching us.

Anyone know which post he's talking about?

For anyone who doesn't know the theme from Mercenaries 2, aka "Oh No, You Didn't".
The original game was so much fun. The sequel was a buggy disappointment. I still get a sad thinking of the lost potential on that game, and IIRC its developer (Pandemic) committed suicide-by-EA, so I guess we'll never see another one. :(

That'd be real dumb when Ty and the Amazons and lots of armed police men will be around.
Does anyone know if that convention center will allow concealed (or even open) carry? That said, I doubt anything that would happen to Vic would warrant a lethal response. At worst, he'll be shouted at.
I believe thats for archival purposes so should the beard bring on Ahab for a little whale hunting expedition they can use this as a repository of ammunition.
True, but still, please bundle the tweets, folks. We don't need to be notified each time she tweets something. We can go a couple hours without knowing about it and be okay.

Screeching about getting a refund
So first she said she was doing a chargeback. Now she says she's trying to get a refund through the con. Is she:

  1. Trying to double-dip and get two refunds for one payment
  2. Lying about either the chargeback or the con refund
  3. Lying about both because she never had a ticket in the first place
I'm thinking #3.

Honestly am a bit surprised, if not intrigued, that the Chinese are more important to Japanese studios than America is, even if it's no deeper than the fact they're next-door neighbors. Like I know Korea and Japan hate each other, but I could've sworn China and Japan didn't like each other much, either, China especially disliking Japan for being an offshoot from them and "stealing" and "changing" their language and culture.
Hmm, I seem to remember some sort of far more recent reason that China (and Korea) might have beef with Japan, but it's not coming to mind right now…

But seriously, even most of the grandparents of today's young people weren't alive during WWII. Anime is far more interesting than politicians posturing over century-old grievances for most zoomers, I'd imagine.

and where JRPGs told everyone the fallacy of the supposed power of the church.
Grandia II master race! Now that's a case of a game getting a sequel which properly builds upon and improves the original.

…I did it. I made it to the end. Was it worth it? I don't know. I probably should have just declared bankruptcy on this thread. At least I got to sperg about good video games for a while.

As for you people saying I need to make animations for this facial expression or that one, I'm bookmarking them and will try to get to them at some point. Not tonight, though.

EDIT:

Got a message from Nick suggesting we need to pay close attention to the date.

Which date? The dates on tweets?

That reminds me, it's hilarious that the most liked tweet in the Kamehacon's "Vic is back" tweet chain is Ty's. A lawyer who no one in the anime community even knew of before We Will Be In Touch has 3k likes. From weebs. And he only said two words.

What a world we live in.

And Ty will be at Kameha Con. Unfortunately, I won't be there, but I'll probably make it to Anime Matsuri.

Also, RIP Emmett.
